Golden City Vol. 6

I love this world. The little details- like on the first page with the cat on the balcony, and the sign advertising "Nude fighting" (I only noticed it when I zoomed in on the artwork via ComiXology). Anyway, I returned to the pages of Golden City after a bit of a hiatus, and things are as crazy as ever. Amber the hit woman finagles the whereabouts of Banks only to find that he's been captured in Golden City, and is scheduled for execution. There goes her fifteen thousand. But wait... if they can spring him, they can ransom him off and make their money. Right?

Just to recap: their quarry Banks is the former president of Golden City, but he was ousted and replaced with a clone, and has been on the run. He befriended some street kids and recently returned to Golden City, only to learn that his mom was behind his travails. The world is like a version of Venice- lots of waterways and canals, everything flooded. The scavenger kids reappear too when Mifa brings them together to help her rescue Banks. They form  a tricky alliance with Amber and her crew, but things get dicey when the rescue attempt goes to shit and Amber finds herself the quarry in a sadistic game-where wealthy people hunt others for sport. Her and Banks end up as the evenings' entertainment!

It's a nice twist, throwing Banks and Amber together in a fight to survive. Killer drones, mining shafts... the whole chase was a trip. I forgot how awesome this series is. And wow- a lot happens in this one. We end up in Tibet- the art is gorgeous- and a final showdown between Banks and Brad (his clone)? I was not expecting what happens. And the last page- phenomenal. My favorite comic series by far.
