What a gorgeous week! The weather here has been really nice (although it got stormy tonight). How has your week been?

I'm really disappointed about how things are going with the virus right now. Everyone just seems to be out and about and mask wearing seems so... hit or miss? My neighbor who always has garage sales had one the last two days and I didn't see anyone wearing masks. Granted, it's outside, but still... people close together. Sigh... I was feeling really hopeful as things got better and we slowly started reopening, but... now it feels like March again? Also- we had this.

In more hopeful news I found this really inspiring.

  1. Yeah, I find it hard to see so many people without masks, too. Even in public transport I've seen more people without masks than with. It's not mandatory here, but still. I didn't stay home for over two months just to get sick now, you know?
I hope people will wise up and also think of others, not only themselves and their little comforts.
    Have a great weekend, Greg!

  2. I agree about the masks Greg. I've been watching these protests by BLM and anti-lockdown protesters as well as Trump campaign rallies and UK beaches packed to capacity, there is barely a mask in sight. With the cases so high in the US it is shocking plus here in the UK we are just edging out of lockdown and don't need stupidity dragging us back in! In my local area, my dad and I get funny looks for wearing masks but I'm determined not to have us get sick.

  3. Here in NC, the governor made it mandatory effective on this past Friday for everyone to wear masks through July 17 because out numbers were creeping back up again. I keep them ready whenever I have to go out, but I've seen people who don't wear masks trying to stay away from others in the supermarket(lol) Stay safe! Hugs, RO

  4. Seeing that picture of all those people crammed together in line without a mask in sight... it just makes me wonder what hope we have of combatting this virus. Those people may be asymptomatic carriers, spreading it around without even knowing, and there they all are without a care in the world. It's so frustrating. The solar system video was amazing!

  5. I have family that live in the states and although they personally wear masks, they say that a lot of people object to it. I don't understand it sometimes! If you wear masks and social distance for a couple of months, then things will get better and things will be able to open up sooner! It's so annoying.

Anyways, I'm glad the weather has been nice for you! Focus on the positives :D

  6. California is supposed to be "mandatory" masks when you're in public, but about half of people aren't bothering. It's no wonder our country is doing so poorly🙁 But I loved the video about the solar system! I've seen another video or story where a group of people created to scale planets and they actually span the globe, and are in different countries, or maybe it's the US. I need to find that now, it's so cool!

  7. I think this is what I was thinking about: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mnn.com/earth-matters/space/blogs/amp/worlds-largest-scale-model-solar-system-spans-11-different-swedish-cities

  8. Italy is not much better than the U.S. in terms of masks lately. They're mandatory when you enter a building, but the streets are full of people talking to one another face-to-face with their masks down. Where I live there haven't been new cases for a while, but Italy as a whole is not out of the woods yet (and hello, I mean, China was COVID-free until the virus was spreading again in Pechino?), so it only takes one sick person from another province or region to have it ramp up again...

The Repent pic made me laugh.

  9. I'm frustrated by how careless and casual people are being where I live, too. Is it really that hard to wear a freaking face mask and stay a few feet apart? Our COVID numbers keep going up and up. It's discouraging.

  10. My husband tends to go out more than I do, and he is frustrated by the lack of masks he sees, too. Even at the grocery store, where it's mandatory, he saw employees not wearing them.

  11. SERIOUSLY, read Good Girls Lie, NOW. It is so good, I could not put it down.

  12. I have to question why they thought they could re-open bars. These are places where people generally go to socialize (and one of the reasons, they claim, we are seeing more infections with younger people). And, here, in NJ, they are thinking of sending the older students back to school first. This also baffles me, since they are better equipped to learn independently in comparison to elementary level students. We just have to hope the vaccines they are working on are ready for us in the near future.

  13. Yeah, the mask thing is frustrating. Why can’t people just do what’s right? I think my state is doing better than most, though, so I guess that’s a small victory.

  14. UGH I feel you so much! I took Sammy to get a haircut and the place had everyone waiting outside (which, not so fun in 90 degree weather, but safety first) and specifically said MASKS REQUIRED and do you think people would wear them!? NOPE. They did when they went in the salon because I guess they wouldn't have let them in, but we were still close together outside and I was pissed. I am so OVER people not taking this seriously! I know PA is doing well, statistically speaking, but that is because we have JUST reopened, so I know in a few weeks we'll be right there with everyone else. It's exhausting.

Thanks for the lovely pictures though, they are a nice reprieve!

  15. I really think the healthcare "authorities" dropped the ball on this one. After the protests, I noticed a shift in attitude towards social distancing and the virus. I agreed with the protests, but now everyone has it in their heads if you believe in something strong enough, then somehow it's "worth the risk" which is a dangerous perception that health authorities have inadvertently created. The truth is, the virus doesn't care about ideology, race, or background and I'm afraid we're going to see a serious second wave unless people start taking it seriously again :(

  16. The pulp cover was kinda funny with slay having two meanings

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah, that line shows the ages of the new majority of Covid cases, unfortunately. I think younger people don't take the threat seriously. I guess we'll see. The Solar System video was kind of spectacular! Such a vast system!

  18. Greg, we had gorgeous weather too, in fact for two days it was a heatwave and had to get the fans out to help us sleep! But it turned stormy again yesterday. Unfortunately with the heat we did have ridiculous scenes of jam-packed beaches - People really are there own worst enemy aren't they?! I hope you take care this coming week and happy reading!

  19. It annoys me so much to see people walk about without wearing the masks properly. I have been hesitating to hit the gym for a similar reasons. What is wrong with their screws. I hope you are staying safe.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I love the pics, the last one is where I'd like to be right now. Hope you have a great week and stay safe.

  21. I see the same things happening here too. Good, we are not asked to wear a mask when we are outside, but the required 6ft distance is still up. But it seems as if people don´t care anymore. We do have some lockdown areas again where people have to live with the restrictions we had in March when the entire nightmare started. It is frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love that Forest Barrier image. I feel peaceful when I look at it. Something we don't have in our world right now, and I also get frustrated by how people are reacting. Do they think that the virus is not real? I hope they don't find out the hard way how real it is.

If only we had had better leadership here. Look at the other countries! Much better almost everywhere.

Well, let's try to enjoy our books and movies. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  23. Unless, we are made to wear them people are not going too. I live in a small town area and we have even had an upsurge are are at about 322 who have it which is up from a month ago when we had like 30, but you go to Walmart and hardly anyone has a mask on because the stores don't demand you wear them. I admit I am not a huge mask wearer but always do at stores I go shopping in and would never even be in a line like that Harpers one mask or not!

When the President wanted to do things states threw a fit so now he lets the states dill with it and most governors are not handling things well. Some stopping reopenings while others keep going as if nothing is happening. Everything could be handled better, but you can't let protesters go out without mask and expect beach goers to wear them.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  24. Its been almost 3 months and I still refuse to leave the house without a mask and if I go anyplace it is with one. I don't understand why everything has to be such a debate and so difficult. Is it uncomfortable, yes but think how uncomfortable it will be is you got COVID and can't breath at all for weeks. So what is a few hours of inconvenience when you can be in the hospital for over a month with permanent damage to your lungs. Not to mention if you have an underlying condition and instead could die. I will stick with a mask no matter what anyone else thinks :)

This is why I stay home and play video games, read and binge watch shows. :)

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  25. My city just went on mandatory masks since this whole thing started. And people are trying to fight it which I don't understand.

  26. I've just ordered another flowery mask - I'm assuming I shall be wearing one for a LONG time, so I have enough to be able to keep rotating them... I love the secret place - we all need one of those at the moment! Have a great week and stay safe, Greg:))

    ReplyDelete
  27. I know what you mean with the masks Greg! I am enraged each time people just walk into enclosed spaces withour wearing any mask or respecting social distance...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah...people are becoming really complacent, it's scary. I'm sure we'll get a second wave. Here in Canada, we are preparing for it. I loved that video on the solar system! Enjoy the good weather, Greg!

  29. Florida is especially disappointing right now. We had 9,000 new cases in one day and people are still yelling about it being a hoax or blown up by the media. And it's been extra extra hot this week! Enjoy that nice weather and have a great week! :)

  30. It is disappointing. It feels like all that effort was wasted. They were supposed to be planning so we could open responsibly.

They make it sound like we want to close forever but we just want people to do it right so we can STAY open.

    Ok, I'm done ranting...lol

    The weather has been gorgeous!!

  31. Oh gosh, I hate watching the news lately - for all sorts of reasons, but recently, because COVID cases are rising and it's just ridiculous. People are definitely being a mix of stupid/ignorant and selfish. I just don't get it. Sigh.

I'm glad you had some nice weather though!!!

  32. Greg we too are experiencing more positive cases lately and it's like the wild west out there where no one seems to think masks are a good idea. We need to have better directions from our officials like my state doesn't require masks but some counties and cities do. I think it should be universally required until there is a vaccine. Great post and thanks for the visit to my blog!

  33. It’s midwinter and soo cold here.
We are currently experiencing small cluster outbreaks due to complacency and there is concern about a second wave, but it doesn’t compare to the disaster that you are experiencing, I’m so sorry.

Wishing you a great reading week

  34. I predict Good Girls Lie will be good. Yes so frustrating when others don't take care and help you get out of this sooner. Take care and stay safe yourself. Who would have thought 2020 would be such a year.

  35. I was reading that the Harpers cases went up to 85 yesterday. I was trying to find information on new cases in Broome County, where I live, and the Harpers story popped up. I still haven't been able to find any information on new cases in my area. The county executive has been giving live briefings, but only about re-openings and not the virus itself. 😡

Thanks for that solar system link. It's amazing! 😃

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  36. The news story about Harpers even made it onto the Australian news websites.

Our cases are growing quickly at the moment, but we are still talking about less than 100 a day in our state. It is absolutely nowhere near as bad as you are seeing in America.

  37. I'm still staying home. I haven't eaten out in over 3 months. The only stores I've been in are grocery stores (when I can't get pickup or deliver), a trip to the garden store, and 2 trips to the automotive store (something ate through the tube for windshield wiper fluid and then a month later the windshield wiper broke). I think I've gone to the office 3 times. I'm so thankful that my job can be done totally from home as mask wearing is hit or miss here too.

  38. Hi Greg!
Glad to see you are still blogging!
It is the same here in Scotland, we are supposed to keep a two metre distance from one another but it really isn’t happening as people do what they want. Hope you are safe and well.

  39. I'm so upset over Michigan right now. We were on a good trajectory but now I am worried a shut down is in our future again soon. We had an unofficial "dream cruise" in our area over the weekend, with hundreds of people massed outside without masks. Yay us. :( Then I saw photos of people lined up for the ferries to Mackinac Island over the weekend - same thing there. I am so disappointed and scared for our state and our country.

  40. The weather has been nice here also with summer in full swing. It's beyond frustrating seeing people still arguing over wearing masks. Like really? I haven't seen people social distancing much either and my stat is doing really well, but I'm scared it will all backtrack now with re-opening.
Enjoy your week and your books!

  41. It's scary how our virus numbers have exploded the past couple weeks. It seemed almost under control and now it's so not. When this whole thing started most people around here were wearing masks, but the longer this has gone on less and less people have been and it started to become really rare to see them. Though I'm hoping that's changing because when my dad went to the grocery store on Friday he said that more people were wearing masks than he's seen in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  42. More great art this week! I'm also disappointed with the reaction to the virus. People are not wearing masks. They're having parties and not distancing. It's really disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Our county just mandated masks but people are still resistant. The numbers are rising here and people really aren't taking this seriously. I don't get it. Very sad and scary.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm still staying home as much as I can even though cases in Minnesota seem to be lessening. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  45. Oh my. The line in the article you linked to made me antsy! I can't imagine crowding in with so many people, even with a mask on, much less without one! I have close family members who refuse to wear a mask, out of stubbornness more than anything. I won't climb on that soapbox right now though. I don't know what's going to happen with all this. *sigh* I'll just try to focus on my own behavior since that's all I can control. Enjoy your week!

  46. We had our neighborhood yard sale this weekend and I noticed the same thing - hardly a mask in sight, buyers or sellers. It's so frustrating.

  47. I hate it and feel so uncomfortable whenever I'm out and about. I'm feeling thankful that I have the option to stay inside most of the time. Happy reading!

  48. Hi there Greg! We were travelling on Sunday, so I didn't manage to post a Sunday Post. Will hopefully try to do it this coming Sunday. Will do 2 weeks' update.

As you've noticed, the numbers in South Africa is sky rocketing. And alas, no masks no social distancing.... It's quite bad! We will have to return to school next week, wondering how it will go there.

I did quickly did my midyear update on all the books I've read so far. You are welcome to hop over!

  49. Yeah we're just doing terrible with this virus, especially in Florida. It's so upsetting because it didn't have to be this bad. Anyway, it's always astounding to see the planet sizes to scale, but I never thought about the orbits. That's cool!
