Happy Christmas season everyone! Ready or not... I hope that everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a nice one. I know I did. I mean, a day devoted to eating and relaxing, with lots of snacks. It's like a hobbit paradise, right? Well, my paradise anyway! Anyway it was a nice day, lots of food obviously, and a movie or two. I'll be happily eating turkey for the next two days probably. What's your favorite Thanksgiving food, if you have one?

Okay Christmas is on the way. One of my favorite memories are the luminaries- a candle in sand, inside a bag (no really, the bags don't burn, because of the sand) and you line your driveway and the road in front of your house with them. It's beautiful on Christmas Eve when the whole neighborhood does it. Do you have a favorite Christmas memory?

  1. Happy Thanksgiving! I’m Canadian so we celebrated in October. I always found it a bit weird that Americans celebrate all the way in late November. It seems way too close to Christmas for me haha!

  2. My favorite part of Christmas was going carolling. Walking through snowy streets, stomping feet on the porch--good memories.

Enjoyed your selection of photos above! You must be related to my husband!

  3. I had to google luminaries and how do they not burn! But they look lovely

  4. We don't do Thanksgiving here so it's just been a normal week other than events in the news of course. Our turkey with bread sauce and sage and onion stuffing will be our Christmas dinner! Two weeks to the general election which is a highlight in my viewing plans!

  5. OMG! I am seeing Thanksgiving in a totally new way now. A hobbit paradise. I love it! We always celebrated Christmas with a fantastic German feast and by breaking the Oplatki wafer.

  6. Those mermaid pieces are just stunning! Happy Thanksgiving, Greg. 😁

  7. I love those luminaries at Christmas time; they always look so pretty lining a sidewalk or driveway. My favorite Christmas tradition is plates of homemade Christmas cookies. (My grandma used to give us a platter full each Christmas filled with five different kinds of yummy goodies. I miss it.)

  8. Oh, I love those 4K walking tours of Japan! I've watched a ton of them and they always transport me back to my time there.

  9. Oh I love luminaries! They're such a small thing but they make such a big impact. This Christmas will be a little different for us because we will be in New Orleans almost up to Christmas day and I'm so excited to explore a different city's traditions. Have a great week!

  10. Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving, Greg! We are going to be eating leftovers for the next week! I love making my grandma's stuffing.

I remember doing luminaries when I was a kid - maybe it was through the Girl Scouts? But yeah, they look so nice.

  11. Glad to hear you had a nice Thanksgiving. The luminaries sound pretty? The bags really don't burn? I must give it a try sometime. Enjoy your leftovers, Greg! :)

  12. Yes, the Christmas season is upon us... read or not. Ha ha. 🎅

Believe it or not, one of my fave Christmas memories was always getting a big box of crayons and a coloring book in my stocking. I loved to color. 🎨

Thanks for the space ambient! 🚀

I promise I will get back around to read your Star Wars fanfic! 👍✨
Have a wonderful new week! 🌞

  13. I am ready for Jan. 1st and would skip Christmas if I could. Not a lot of Christmas memories but I did like going around with my mom and looking at the lights and decorating the tree with her. Now I could care less about any of it.

Glad you had a good Thanksgiving!
Have a great week and happy reading!

  14. I always love going to Carols in the Park, it’s getting harder to drag the kids there now though.

Wishing you a great reading week Greg

  15. I could skip Christmas this year completely. Not in the mood to get all the Christmas decoration out and up. One of my fondest Christmas memories is that I used to have a nice talk with my father while I was wrapping candies in silkpaper to hang it on the tree later while he was getting the tree up and ready. Not sure if we will have that this year too. Thank you for all the beautiful pictures. And happy reading.

  16. Oh, yes. I am all about the eating on Thanksgiving. And the leftovers for daaaays.

  17. I think my Christmas memories was the family meal at my grand mother's house. Always the same food and people conversation getting heated as everyone had a strong personality! Best part: gifts of course.

  18. Glad you enjoyed your Thanksgiving. I do love relaxing and eating, too, although I've had to relearn what I can eat now, post-surgery. I'm realizing smaller meals throughout the day are better for me.

    Have a great week!

  20. The town over from us does that. It looks very pretty. All my memories are when we would go to my nannys for xmas eve dinner and waking up xmas morning. My mom was the best Santa! :)

    Love the pink mermaid pic!

have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading! xx

  21. I had a good Thanksgiving, though tiring since I was the one doing the cooking. My dad who is 86 and my step mom came over and so did my daughter. We had a good time. Looking forward to Christmas. I am going to get out the boxes of decorations, the tree and ornaments this week.

  24. Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving! We don't have Thanksgiving but I'm super excited about Christmas! Now that we've hit December 1st, I'm going to go full on Elf!
I like your candle in a bag of sand tradition but I must admit I've never heard of it!

  26. Glad to hear you had a nice Thanksgiving, Greg. Mine was relaxing as well, which is just the way I like it. Those luminaries at Christmas sound lovely. We don't usually do them at Christmas here but we do them on Memorial Day at the national cemetery downtown to honor all of the troops who are buried there. I think it's something like 15,000 luminaries and it's so beautiful when they're all lit up.

  27. Oh those candles sound so wonderful, yes they must be beautiful when everyone does them in the street. Good to hear your Thanksgiving went well Turkey isn't my fave food so I never really have it!

  28. We've finished our Thanksgiving leftovers. Stuffing is my favorite part and I keep looking for recipes and excuses to have it often. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  29. Those mermaids are awesome. I enjoyed Thanksgiving as well. I had the whole week off and fell behind with blogging but am trying to catch up now. That Peanuts Christmas album is one of my favorites to play while wrapping presents. That and the Barenaked Ladies one. It's awesome as well and I highly recommend.

  30. My neighbors always did those paper-bag candles -- so pretty. We haven't started to decorate yet!! Ruins is my fav image this week.

  31. I'm glad your Thanksgiving was good Greg! I just love this time of year! We don't celebrate Thanksgiving.. but Christmas really is my favorite time of year!

  33. A day of eating does sound pretty good. And what a lovely thing to do for Christmas! I wish we could do something nice like that as it must be lovely to see all of the houses on the street lit up. I think my favourite thing (at least from when I was younger) was standing outside waiting for santa to go past on his sleigh as a local community thing put it on every year and publish in the local Santa's route for kids to see. It's sweet.

  34. LOVE The Ruins one- those post-apoc pictures always get me. I genuinely don't understand how it's almost Christmas- or I suppose, how Thanksgiving is already over and I have to go back to work tomorrow, sobs. I am glad you had a nice Thanksgiving though! I have no idea what luminaries are but it sounds cool! Idk what my favorite Christmas memory is, I suppose I should try to think up one at least!

  35. Wow - that pink mermaid is gorgeous.
Glad you had a lovely Thanksgiving.

  36. I am so glad that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving! So much food. My favorites are the green bean casserole which I had no idea was divisive until this year lol, and cheesy potatoes.

I love the luminaries idea. I think we might do that this year. :)

  37. I love Thanksgiving too. How can you not love a day that's dedicated to eating?! My favorite is always the stuffing and pumpkin pie. And the leftovers are the best! I'm so glad you had a wonderful holiday ♥!

  38. I am glad you had a nice Thanksgiving, Greg. :-) Ours was quiet with just the three of us. We went to see Frozen 2 and really enjoyed it. As for a favorite Christmas memory . . . My dad worked the night shift for many years, and always worked Christmas Eve (triple time!). We would call him and ask if he had seen Santa (he worked security at an aerospace plant), and he would give us a full report. Our own little Norad, so to speak. We always had to wait for our dad to come home before venturing beyond the hallway that attached our bedrooms to see what Santa brought Christmas morning. It was a free for all once he walked in the door and gave us the okay.

I hope you are enjoying your reading! Have a great week, Greg.

  39. Those candles must have made for a lovely decoration! Simple, but effective.

I used to decorate the house at Christmas when I was a kid, tree and manger and lots of other stuff, some of it hand-made (my grandpa used to bring me real moss for the nativity scene). I've totally lost the spirit through the years. Sad, isn't it?
