Tuesday Tagline #157

The Escape Room

Welcome to the Escape Room.
Your goal is simple.
Get out alive.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week is Top Ten Books I'm Avoiding Reading and Why. I had to think about this and decided to tweak  a bit- I'm going with books I've recently added to my TBR or books that I think I want to read but am unsure about. So if you've read any of these and can recommend or not, let me know!

To Be Taught, If Fortunate

This one's a no- -brainer, but it kinda snuck up on me in that I forgot it was due out imminently. So I can't wait!

In the Woods

I really want to read this but I'm just not SURE.

The Light at the Bottom of the World (Light the Abyss, #1)

The Light at the Bottom of the World- I love the sound of this but I'm hearing some very mixed reviews, so... maybe no.

After the Flood

I think I need this.

In the Shadow of Vesuvius (Lady Emily #14)

I haven't read a Lady Emily book in ages.

The Perfect Wife

This sounds like something I'd like- a thriller with AI elements.

The Andromeda Evolution (Andromeda #2)

A sequel to The Andromeda Strain? Yes please.

Before I Disappear

I think I have myself convinced to get this. :)

  1. Michael Crichton was a super writer. Every book was spot on.

  2. I don't recognize any of these, but I hope if you decide to read them (uncertainty can be a BIG bookworm problem...!), I hope you enjoy them all, Greg. "In the Woods" looks a bit creepy!!

  3. The Perfect Wife is on my TBR too but I haven't been in the mood to request it. Too many other books keep calling me. :)

  4. I haven't read any of these book either so I can offer no advice. Sorry. Thanks for visiting my blog. My TBR books I'm avoiding

  5. I'm curious about Into the Woods. I have the e-arc but haven't gotten to it yet.

  6. Great list, Greg! There are quite a few of these that are on my TBR too, like Before I Disappear, The Perfect Wife and After the Flood (just added this one earlier today). All of them sound so good though! 😍I've also been seeing so much of Becky Chambers lately and I can't wait to read her stuff!

  7. Yeah, I tweaked my list a bit too - I don't tend to have books that I'm avoiding for a particular reason, or at least the only reason I can think of apart from lack of time and too many stacks is I'm kind of put off a little by the length. I decided to highlight books that I've boI thought that I still haven't picked up.
I thought I wanted to read the Becky Chambers book but I've changed my mind because I think it's a shorter story and they don't tend to work for me.

  8. I haven't read To Be Taught if Fortunate Yet, but I've heard so many good things about it. I hope you like it.

    My TTT.

  9. The Escape Room is One I've been thinking I might want to read actually, but I just don't know (like the tag line though!)

  10. I tend to simply read the first book in a series (I know it's odd) so, although I loved the first of the Becky Chambers books, I haven't read any of the others. Often they disappoint.

  11. Interesting list! I would buy The Light at the Bottom of the World just for the cover!

  12. After the Flood sounds so good, right?

  13. I haven't read any of these, but the Lady Emily series sounds like fun! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  14. I have the ARCs of Escape Room and The Light at the Bottom of the World- I! Hope we like them if we read them LOL :)

  15. I've heard mixed reviews for After the Flood, but I still want to try it😁

  16. I haven't read any of these but they do look good. I have so many books in my TBR pile it would be impossible I think to get to all of them. It's so hard to pick and choose sometimes isn't it?

  17. I think I'm really wanting to read After the Flood but I may wait to see a few reviews first. So many books...yadda yadda yadda!

  18. I have no idea if my post went through...Anyway I have yet to catch up with the rest of Becky Chambers' books, I enjoyed the first novel in that series. The Tasha Alexander book sounds interesting, I'll have to look into it. Interesting list!

  20. The new Becky Chambers novella sounds so good. Can't wait to read it!

  21. I hate when books are released and I don't know it and miss reading them for a while. I hope that first book is as good as you're hoping!

  22. I want to read After the Flood, but I can see why you're second guessing yourself.

    Thanks for sharing!

  23. I love your take on the theme. Here is my post-https://paigesofbook.blogspot.com/2019/09/top-ten-tuesday-books-on-my-tbr-i.html

  24. I wish I could recommend any of these, but I haven't read any. I'll be watching to see which you decide to pick up.

  25. My favorite Michael Crichton book was Timeline. Light at the Bottom of the World sounds good too. I lived in Naples for three years, so In the Shadow of Vesuvius has an intriguing title to me, at least.

  26. I keep forgetting to add the Chambers book to my Kindle wishlist, to wait for a sale. I know, I'm such a tightwad. 😆

  27. I'm avoiding a few sequels just in case they aren't as good as book #1 but otherwise I'm not avoiding things.

    Nice twist on the question.

  28. There's a sequel to The Andromeda Strain? I didn't know that!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is the Escape Room book the same as the movie? Or are they unrelated? (And I haven't read any of those books so I can't help you 😂 )

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't know if I am avoiding these, per se, but I have read none. It's sort of unbelievable that I have yet to read a Crichton book

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've been eyeing Before I Disappear at the library... it sounds like it will be good!

    ReplyDelete
  32. In the Woods looks really really good!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Light at the Bottom of the World has a fantastic synopsis but yes, mixed reviews is also something that would make me hesitate...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Eeek! I have The Light at the Bottom of the World in my review schedule. You have me a little bit nervous. Fingers crossed. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not much of a thriller kind of girl but Carrie Jones has a series that I adored way back when YA was just becoming what it is today. I may end up reading In The Woods just based on that alone :D

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love the tagline for The Escape Room. I've read the book and it's very fitting.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Before I even see the blurb, I'm interested in the thought of The Escape Room! I need to check that out. Light At The Bottom Of The World is getting so hyped and I wanted to read it but I'm a bit worried hearing there are mixed reviews. I better go read some reviews! Yes to more Andromeda!

  38. I just saw a tour for TLatBotW and I was so tempted ... but I stuck to my review request ban and didn't sign up. I absolutely loved Before I Disappear, so I definitely recommend that one!

  39. I really enjoyed Before I Disappear!! I did a blog tour for that one and really, really enjoyed it. It was fairly spooky and consuming and just all around very intriguing. I was thoroughly captivated, so I may be biased, but I hope you get to that one!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I hadn't seen that there were mixed reviews on The Light of the Bottom of the World, that makes me more hesitant also just because I feel like it could so easily be great or not! After the Flood was a really interesting one. I've also been mixed on Before I Disappear, but I'm definitely leaning towards checking it out sometime also. I hope that if you do read any of these, you end up loving them!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I NEED to read After the Flood! I have it, I should read it. Peer pressure me into reading it soon, yeah? Great. OH and Before I Disappear, I want to read that one too! I thought of putting To Be Taught on my list too but I literally JUST got it so. Next time a book procrastination list rolls around and it's inevitably still unread 😂

And you know my sad feelings about The Light at the Bottom of the World. It DID pick up toward the end? But until that point... yikes. The reviews are mostly good so far though, so who knows!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I want to read Before I Disappear too because of Nicole at Feed My Fiction Addiction. And I have The Light at the Bottom of the World TBR so I hope I fall on the side of loving it. But now I'll have lower expectations of this fabulous premise.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Before I Disappear is on my TBR list (that is, To Be Bought list) - it's got a great premise, but I also read a number of positive reviews on top of that. To Be Taught I just looked up on Goodreads and it sounds interesting...and vaguely Doctor-Who-esque (sorry, that's my second reference to DW on your blog in a single day, but I couldn't be avoided. Fluid bodies?!). I'll take a look at the reviews and see if it's for me!
