Song Lyrics - Don't Look Back

This week I'm looking at Don't Look Back by Boston. Another favorite and it has a little story behind it. My aunt used to live with us when I was a kid, for a while, and she had these rock albums. This one always caught my eye due to the amazing cover illustration (and don't laugh- but it was a long time before I realized that it was a guitar on the cover and not just a spaceship). Not to mention the soaring harmonies, the amazing guitar sounds (seriously, this sounded like space rock to me) and perhaps most of all- the message. It's such a positive, life affirming song. I feel like it's a brand new day when this song comes on, or like there's an open road stretching out to the horizon, which clearly is what the lyrics are trying to convey. This is a feel good song, to me, in the truest sense of the word.

So give it a listen and see what you think. Does it make you feel better, knowing the words? For me it sure does.

Lyrics

Don't look back
A new day is breaking
It's been too long since I felt this way
I don't mind where I get taken
The road is calling
Today is the day

I can see
It took so long just to realize
I'm much too strong
Not to compromise
Now I see what I am is holding me down
I'll turn it around

Yes I will

I finally see the dawn arrivin'
I see beyond the road I'm drivin'

It's a new horizon and I'm awakin'
I see myself in a brand new way
The sun is shinin'
The clouds are breakin'
Cause I can't lose now, there's no game to play

I can tell
There's no more time left to criticize
I've seen what I could not recognize
Everything in my life was leading me on
But I can be strong

Yes I can

I finally see the dawn arrivin'
I see beyond the road I'm drivin'
Far away and left behind
Left behind

Oh the sun is shinin'
And I'm on that road

Don't look back
A new day is breakin'
It's been so long since I felt this way
I don't mind where I get taken
The road is calling
Today is the day

I can see
It took so long just to realize
I'm much to strong
Not to compromise
Now I see what I am is holding me down
I'll turn it around

Oh yes I will

I finally see the dawn arrivin'
I see beyond the road I'm drivin';
Far away and left behind

Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back

  1. I've always enjoyed this one and would crank it up any time I heard it on the radio. But honestly I never paid much attention to the lyrics. Reading them puts a smile on my face. I feel like anytime I hear it going forward I'll enjoy it even more. :)

  3. Hmmmm, yep it's a guitar. I guess I never looked past the spaceship. Boston is such a classic and perfect for a lazy weekend barbecue! Love this one.

  6. I was never a "classic rock" person, which is what I think Boston was by the time I knew who they were. The only song of theirs, which comes to mind, is More Than a Feeling. Not sure I know any others.

  7. I think all classic rock makes me feel good. It's the nostalgia of my dad listening to it.
