Ah mid- September has passed and we're closing in on October rapidly. Anyone else excited by this? Obviously I am, as I've been singing the praises of autumn every week. October for me is the month when it really feels like fall- the cool winds are here and there's something in the air, something that just feels different. I'm glad I live somewhere with the change of seasons because this transition period between summer and winter is one of my favorite things. The changing of the leaves, the smell of bonfires, pumpkins and harvest moons- I love it.

I was thinking about book titles the other day. Some are more evocative than others, of course, but do you ever see a title and feel drawn to it, even if it's not your usual kind of read? The Drums of Autumn is that way for me- I've never read Outlander and it's not really my thing, but that title- it just seems to evoke something, I don't even know what. I should do a post on this. Do you have certain book titles you just love?

The group read for Record of a Spaceborn Few is over and what a book! Thanks to La La in the Library, Jo's Book Blog and A Dance With Books for reading with me! It was fun. My review for that went up this past week.

Iron Fist S2 is a mixed bag but the standout is Typhoid Mary. Here's one of her fight scenes with Misty and Colleen.

  1. I've seen mixed reviews of Survive the Night. I have it on my ereader but I'm really unsure about it! I enjoy autumn with the changing leaf colours, cosy nights in front of a warm fire reading, getting dark earlier...

    1. I'm unsure to, to be honest. I've seen mixed as well. I was gonna read it a while ago, kept putting it off, now I'm thinking of reading it for the spooky readathon in October.

  2. Yay October and cooler air! Iron Fist 2 is on my list to watch, and I really liked the first season a lot. The thing about the end of September is that the new Fall TV season starts, so in addition to all the other stuff, I'll be knee deep in all my shows coming back like Law and Order, 911, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, The Good Doctor and a host more filling up my DVR, not to mention the new book releases. Sure hope you have an amazing weekend! Hugs...RO

  5. I also love autumn, especially when the weather is cooler, but you still have some sunny days as well which are great for going outside. Not a fan of all the rain tough.

I usually don't really care about titles one way or another. Although I do like it when the title makes sense and fits the book. It would be interesting to read a post about the topic and which tiles catch your attention.

Nice artwork pictures again! I like the last one with the dino's.

    1. I agree, autumn plus sun = happiness.

And that's good to know. For some reason I do find certain titles to be evocative, and I agree- when they fit the book it's always nice!

  7. October's Coming :) Happy Autumn to you! I think it came early for us. I do hope we see the sun soon before the snow settles in gosh.

    Welcome Fall

  8. After another heatwave we finally have had some cooler fallish weather, but with more rain and some flash flooding. Thank goodness it was mostly park areas this time. Today it is now officially autumn, so now we can bring on the pumpkins. This is not on my diet, but I am craving cider and donuts. XD

Thanks for reading with us! I am not done discussing Spaceborn Few, yet. Ha ha. My transition back to having to do work every day after summer break has thrown me off social media kilter. I have to come up with a schedule again. :P

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

    1. Ooh flooding for you too? I know some areas have been really affected. And yay for autumn!

You are welcome- my pleasure! And I look forward to seeing more of your thoughts.

  9. I'm grumbling about fall. I don't even know why, I don't like the heat? I do like swimming though. And I HATE snow, so I guess that is my problem. I am glad you're glad though! I got all salty when I saw people talking about the first day of fall and I was like "guys that isn't for WEEKS" until I looked at the calendar and was in for an unpleasant surprise.

Definitely do the titles post! I love titles. Like Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies. Or That Inevitable Victorian Thing. Exit, Pursued By a Bear. The Smell of Other People's Houses. Yeah, do the post.

I could not read your review of Record of a Spaceborn Few because I haven't even read the second one yet, oopsie. Also, the girl on the horse looks like Echo riding through the woods to the island during Praimfaya. So that makes it my favorite of course. Did you start Two Dark Reigns? Mine hasn't even shipped yet, sobs.

    1. Yeah I will be- give it time. Ha ha I'm never happy w/ weather. Have you been swimming? And yes as much as I like it- how IS it fall already???

I may! There are so many titles I like, and so many weird one lol.

You need to get on those. Join the party! And yes that could be Echo- except for the snow part.

  10. Yay, more mermaid art! And I'm pretty excited about autumn too - it's my favorite season of the year when it's still warm but not too hot, and the real cold is still weeks away. I wish the weather could be like this all the time!

  11. I do feel drawn to books in genres I don't usually read because of their titles. Found some good stories that way:) It's still high 90s here and lots of humidity even though some leaves are starting to fall off the pecan trees. I've been enjoying the pool while I still can:)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Same. A good title will get me every time. :)

I'm jealous of your heat (a bit) mainly because you have a pool to take the edge off! If I had a pool I'd probably be loving the hot too!

      Delete
  12. Yeah... we don't have seasons where I live lol. Changing leaves? What are those? Bonfires are great though. And they do smell nice. There should really be more bonfire get togethers everywhere!

  13. I do love autumn...pumpkins, apples, crisp leaves, and color! The air feels good, too. We don't really get to full-on fall until mid-October, but then I feel happy and renewed.

Needless to say, I opened all the windows and did a little dance in the living room. I cannot wait for October and cooler weather. Fall is my JAM.

  16. YES! A Million times yet! I love the transition of Summer to Winter and I adore living in a place the has four season (sometimes it does, sometimes it just skips spring) I always told my husband if we move I need to be in a place that has them otherwise I don't know if I could live someplace with no fall or even winter. This is the start of my favorite time of year. I even love how blogs change during this time with all the spooky reads and more cozy books.

Love the mermaid images, those are amazing. It's also nice to see that cats will be able to come with us in space! ;)

  17. Awwww, it's so good to get back to visiting your blog. And what a post today :) YES, titles are sometimes draws for me even if I don't read the genre. It's funny you had the book up there, too, b/c I keep seeing "An Unwanted Guest" and I don't normally read suspense b/c of the stress (I'm weird) but that title!! Simple titles like "The Martian" do it for me, too. So vague that I'm completely intrigued.

Awesome pictures this week! I LOVE the mermaids, especially the cartoon. I'm going to look her up b/c I like how she captures the character's curiosity.

I've been so out of it I FINALLY saw Bladerunner 2049 yesterday. Yep, that busy. Stupid red herrings broke my heart but it was awesome!! So much to catch up on :) Have a great week!

Ooh you liked 2049? I liked parts of it but not as much as the first one. Still I LOVE the cyberpunk feel!

  21. I used to like this time more before I moved to "the south". (I'm actually more north than where I'm from, but it doesn't feel like it.)
Now October is much the same as September, which is about the same as August (and back and back).
However, there is Halloween! So that's something.

Outlander is a good title. I think it was originally titled Cross Stitch which doesn't have the same feeling. I do like that book, but haven't been able to get into the rest of the series.

    Have a great week!

    1. I would die in the south lol. Too hot for me- although I will say when we're freezing in winter, it sounds pretty good. :)

Was it really? I had no idea! I do like the Outlander titles- Dragonfly in Amber is another that gets me.

  22. I am not sure if I should watch Iron Fist S2 at all. The First season put me off completely. Is it worth a try?

Also is there anyone else who dislikes Misty? She just gets on my nerves and has been nothing but a pain in everyone else's ass (esp Luke's).

    1. I think S2 is worth it just for Typhoid Mary. And Colleen and Misty. They steal the show if you ask me.

I get that though about Misty. She CAN be a pain w/ her attitude, that's true. I like her only because I liked her in the comics, so I cut her some slack, but yeah I can see where she would irritate also. And I haven't finished Luke S2 yet but she does kind of get in his face, doesn't she?

  23. I think most of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander titles are fabulous! A Breath of Snow and Ashes or An Echo in the Bone are some of my favorites. Drums of Autumn is pretty good too. I love the original cover of that book too.

  24. Yes! I love this time of year, my favorite!! I read a quote the other day that said "If the year was tucked inside of a clock, then autumn would be the magic hour." And I totally agree!

It's funny you mention that about book titles. First, I definitely feel like some titles resonate with me more than others, and I will often read books just because of the title. :) Also, I read Drums of Autumn first, before reading the rest of the books, for that very reason! I was pretty confused lol but I did go back and read them in order. So I know exactly what you mean about titles. :)

    1. Yes- as a kid I loved summer best, but now as an adult give me fall anytime!

And yes I've read books because of titles before too! The drums of Autumn just has something! Same w/ dragonfly in Amber- have no idea what it's about but the title makes me want to read!

    2. The Outlander series really has great titles. Lol. If I had picked up Drums of Autumn and made my decision from the synopsis alone I would never have read it - I hate time travel usually. But the title made me do it and it is one of my very favorite series ever!

  31. I also love October, but it's because it reminds me of my childhood going trick or treating on Halloween. In Brazil celebrating Halloween and going trick or treating isn't a thing (as much as I've wished that aspect of US culture would bleed over to south america, it hasn't). October means cooler weather for you but it means that summer is drawing nearer and nearer for me (December is one of the hottest months in Brazil because it's the official start to a summer that never fully leaves). As always those images are amazing! :)

  37. I am so glad fall is finally here. Now for the weather to follow suit! Oh, yes! There are certain titles that woe me. I love the title The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. 48. Fall is my favourite time of the year too! But I don't like the cold that comes with it Kudos to you for finding the best and most mesmerising pieces of art. Steep City looks like it belongs to the Harry Potter World, Diagon Alley at night would look something similar to this. Also, yes I have judged books not only for their covers but also their titles and sometimes have even wondered why it isn't one of the four options for requesting a book on Netgally. A book in my TBR that I accepted mainly because of the title is 'All The Ways You Can Face The Sky'

  49. I envy your actual transition period. We don't really have a set fall. Basically there will randomly be a day that's in the 70s and then it'll be back in the 90s and then another random day and then suddenly you realize it's been more 70s than 90s and then suddenly it's cold and rainy. I am looking forward to it not be so freaking hot though! That Live and Let Die clip is fantastic. The book is SOOO much better but the movie has a lot of campy fun. Hope you're having a great week!

Yeah, I've been craving tacos. My dad grilled a tri-tip and my mom oven-roasted shrimp with butta. There was radicchio, freshly shredded cheddar, Chimichurri sauce, and cilantro for toppers.

  59. How is it almost October? I do not understand! I swear September only began a few days ago. I agree about living somewhere where you get to witness the full change of seasons, I think I'd hate not having that transition, sure the weather can go a bit haywire and speed right into winter and then backtrack to autumn but I love seeing the leaves change and the nights get darker. I always find the colder weather to be a shock to the system, though, even when I'm expecting it.
