Sunday Post #263

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

Another week of open windows and cool breezes, punctuated by some warmer weather as well. A nice week all around. It's nice listening to the night sounds in the evening, the song of late summer. The fireflies are mostly gone, we're not getting those humid nights anymore. You can feel the change of seasons in the air... and speaking of which, I think I'm going to join the Fraterfest readathon hosted by Kimba. I was just lamenting the lack of spooky October- themed events a few weeks ago and so now there's at least one that I'm aware of.

The read-a-long for Record of a Spaceborn Few is ongoing with La La in the Library, A Dance With Books and Jo's Book Blog and we're having some amazing discussions. You guys are awesome to read with. :)

Movies That Suck is still on hiatus and last week I reviewed The Opposite of Here. I also have a review upcoming for An Unwanted Guest. And on Monday I'll have a discussion post addressing Monarchy in Fantasy. Otherwise I'm still binging Wentworth (that show is crazy) and Deadwind.

  1. I'm going to sit here casually jealous because my weather is only cool in the mornings but summer in the afternoon. 😑

As always, you choose some of the most amazing art to feature. 🤗

Hope you have a great week, Greg!

    1. Thanks Sophia! And I am kind of enjoying the weather turn, although we had a hot day yesterday!

Thanks, it's one of my favorite parts of the Sunday Post! And you also!

  2. Record of a Spaceborn… that cover looks awfully familiar. It reminds me of Neil deGrasse Tyson's newest book... the one about physics in a hurry? Does it look familiar to you, too?

  3. Glad you're having such nice end of summer weather. It sounds like the kind of evenings where you want to sit with a good book and just listen to the night sounds. Glad you found a good readathon as well, I always like the idea of readathons and then forget about them. And how have I not carried on reading Becky Chambers books? Record of a Spaceborn Few is one I seriously need to read, I'm going to get on it.

Hope you have a good week.

    1. Hey Becky! Hope you had a great trip! And yes I love evenings like that- several nights this week I was able to have windows open and just listen to the crickets and night sounds. Very relaxing. :)

I hope you enjoy Becky's books. Have you read the first one?

  4. An Unwanted Guest is still on my wishlist so I'll be interested to hear your thoughts about it. Our weather has turned to the cold air and desire to stay close to the fire and read!

  7. My top ten post next week will have a more spooky like fall feel to it at least. I am enjoying the cooler evenings too. I hope you are enjoying your current reads. I love that you shared a Questionable Content comic. I really like Jeph Jacques' work. Have a great week, Greg!

  8. The cover to Survive The Night is so pretty! I love the images you compiled in this post! I'm also very fond of dark themed images and things in general to the dismay of most people around me :D

    1. Isn't it though? I can't wait to read it. And thanks! I like some of these darker images too. :)

  10. Super jealous of your weather. It's been a sticky mess here. Today was not terrible, but still almost 90 degrees. Boo! I had someone offer to do a read along with me and I am pretty excited to make that happen. Glad you are enjoying your read along.

    1. Eww sorry about that! I don't like the really hot weather. Hope things cool off a bit. And yay for a readalong- they're fun.

  13. And here I sit being able to open the windows in the evening, but absolutely needing them all shut by 8 am or my house will be sweltering by noon (living in the high desert kind of stinks sometimes).

Have a wonderful weekend. - Katie

  14. It's quite warm here too. As for Halloween events, there's Blogoween! I do not know that much about it, but it pops up on all the blogs I read!

    Have a great reading week!

  15. We've been having warm weather, but I definitely feel a chill in the air mornings and late afternoon. It's been amazing! Ash Grey is a beautiful pic! I need to check out Wentworth. :)

    1. I love it when the chill comes- not that I want it cold, but a little cooler temps at night and in the morning is kind of refreshing!

  16. Glad that you're having cooler weather. It's hot here in Colorado, but I do see that next weekend it should be much cooler, more like Fall temps. I'm horrible about read-a=thons, but Fraterfest does sound interesting. Have a great week and happy reading.

  17. You have fireflies?? I'm jealous, we don't have those here, but they're so pretty. A spooky readathon sounds fun! That serpent in the water is terrifying! I love the art with the roses and branches crown thing. I don't get the comic though :-(

    1. Yes, I love fireflies. Something magical about them flitting about at dusk, and they feel like soft feathers when they brush against you. I have a theory that some reports of faerie encounters or sightings were actually fireflies back in the day.

  18. Glad you are enjoying good weather! The way you described the weather makes me want to be at your place Those are some gorgougo artworks you featured! My particular favourites are Adrift and Ash Grey

  21. Yes... it's getting cooler here, too. Sadly:(. I'm glad you're enjoying Record of a Spaceborn Few so much - I need to get hold of this one, given I've enjoyed the previous two books so much.

Once more, thank you so much for your wonderful selection of pics and have a great week, Greg.

  24. Your images are kind of spooky today, with those flying creatures...LOL. I'm feeling the fear. Yikes!

Ever since the first time I watched Hitchcock's Birds, I haven't liked anything that flies around.

When I lived in the foothills, we had a border of Eucalyptus trees upon which crows would sit, like sentry, guarding us...or getting ready to attack.

Enjoy your week. How did you like An Unwanted Guest?

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  25. Sketch-a-day 051 is fantastic and creepy. WE had our fall weather in August and have been in the 90s this week with more of the same ahead. Hope your week is awesome Greg!

  26. It's still been hot here. 101 today. It won't cool down here to where we can have the door open until next month. I love pretty much anything werewolf.

  27. Those female winter soldier pictures are awesome! Your evenings sound idyllic. My evenings are filled with the screeches of a stressed parent (me, lol) trying to get my kid to brush his teeth and go to sleep at a reasonable hour! 😖

  28. Cool breezes sounds heavenly about now, but oh so far away. We're having record high temps. It was 97 yesterday. Gah! The Turning pic is super creepy but I like it. Hope you have fun with Fraterfest. I've seen several people mention joining up while blog hopping this morning.

  30. Cool weather would be so nice... The ten-day forecast is averaging highs in the 80s with tons of humidity for us. Oh, well, it's definitely better than the 90s of August!

Love the genderbent Bucky/Winter Soldier cosplay from Pinterest. And the empathetic robot.

Oh, and I can't wait to see what you have to say about monarchy in fantasy!

    Have a great week.

  33. I am so glad that you are having such nice weather! I am ready for it over here. It has been near 90 degrees this weekend, it is so gross. Lol. It's wrecking my fall vibe with its July temps! :)

An Unwanted Guest looks really good!!!

    Enjoy your week!

  34. I think today we are getting your good weather. I'm sitting outside enjoying some coffee on the deck and it's beautiful out! But it was cool and rainy and humid all week long. Boo!

  35. It's HOT like 90 hot and I can't stand it! I want cool weather. My daughters game today I got a SUNBURN! Like a serious summer SUNBURN! I want fall *stomps feet*

I was planning this huge October thing and my slump totally killed it. I am planning to do it next year. I have a few fun things I want to do but I think we need a fun scary event for October. I might have to start brainstorming some ideas :)

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  50. Gorgeous art and I love the book cover. I'd love to try some of these books and see if they live up to the dramatic covers! I was planning on doing a movie post this week and ended up cutting it. They take so much time and mine aren't nearly as involved as yours! Hope you're having a great week!

  51. You are great to read with, too! 🙌🙌🙌

  54. Aw you're so lucky you have fireflies! I miss those, we don't have them out west unfortunately. And yay for cooler weather....we've been in high 30s at night and low 80s during the day and it's been perfect by Tahoe these last few weeks. ♥ Wishing you a wonderful week!
