Sunday Post #259

So next week is my 5 year blogoversary, more or less. I say more or less because I started this blog in 2012 but then didn't post anything until the following March. So we're just going with 5 years! I've been thinking about it and shared my observations in Some Thoughts on Book Blogging. I've really come to appreciate the book blogging community and what a special place it is for all of us who come together to talk books. This week with Top Ten Tuesday I was able to reflect even more on some of the awesome blogger friendships I've made.

Have you seen the movie Before Sunrise? Imagine spending the night wandering a European city with someone you just met. You have one night before you both have to leave, and you resolve to spend it together, exploring the city. Aria from Buzzfeed wants to recreate the premise, and he has one night left in Vienna. You can see what happens below.

The 100 is over and the long wait begins for the next season- anyone have any thoughts on that finale? Seems to have generated lots of discussion. Twitter kills me.

Last week I posted the Bookshelf Book Tag and Movies That Suck featured The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Now that was a movie that sucked. But fun too? This week will be The Golden Voyage of Sinbad- or will it? I may do Sharknado for a switch (and thanks to Suzanne at The Bookish Libra for the suggestion). Which will it be?? I also posted a Mystery Blogger Award tag which was fun (thanks Brittany!) So a pretty good week.

  1. I have Contagion on my wishlist at the moment. I enjoyed the Sharknado films for the humour and stupidity plus you see dumb celebrities being eaten which is great!

  2. I have so many book tags to catch up on!!!! I am excited to do them. I haven't seen the Sinbad movie but I just read this week that Universal Studios in Orlando is taking out their Sindbad attraction. I wonder if they are putting in more Harry Potter stuff. Have a great week!

    1. I do too! I'm trying to finish them up and get them out before the end of summer... or whenever. :)

      Hmm I wonder.

  3. Next week would be a good time to do Sharknado because the new one comes out on SyFy on Sunday. I love those old Sinbad movies. How many of them are there?📺

The open wilderness with the abandon fire reminds me of that alien abduction movie, Fire in the Sky. Hey, you should watch that for movies that suck! 👽

I have a lot of back-hopping to do on your blog. I finally got to your Flash Fiction. Two thumbs up.👍👍 There is a site I saw on someone's Twitter that pays for FF stories. I'll DM you the link later today. ✒

    Have a wonderful new week.🌞

    1. There are three Sinbads? And yup I'll probably do all three! Sharknado I want to do this week but I see Amazon doesn't have it to rent, so... I gotta find it. :)

Thank you, glad you liked it! I want to write more...

  7. Congratulations on five years of blogging! It seems like many of us started our blogs in the summer time. :-) Beautiful artwork as always. I could lose myself in some of those. This will be another quiet weekend for us. I am not sure what to do with myself. Haha. I have a lot that needs doing, but actually doing it . . . I want to enjoy the down time while I can. Have a great week, Greg.

  8. Congrats to the 5 year blogoversary! That's a nice number to reach. I always forget how long I've been blogging, until I look it up. I see you got Strange New World, how is that series? Adrift has a pretty cover. You found some pretty art work for this week's post!

    1. Thanks Lola! I do that sometimes too. Like it's actually over 5 years but I'm not sure when to actually celebrate- when I started or when I started posting in earnest! So I just say 5 years and go with it!

Adrift does have such a nice cover. I'm still reading it and it's a tad slow. Strange New World is pretty good, I need to get back to it.

  9. I think I saw Before Sunrise the year it came out (so, quite a while ago). That clip was cute. It reminds me of the premise for Just One Day. Congratulations on still going strong after 5 years! Here's to many more.

    1. I saw it too- a long time ago. Liked it but never saw the sequels! And thanks Sam!

  10. Looking forward to your thoughts on Contagion. A lot of people loved it but I just thought it was all right, for a space horror/drama about an infection - I didn't know if it was just me because I've seen so many movies, games, books, etc. with a similar premise! Also curious what you'll think of Adrift, I want to read that one too.

    1. I'm looking forward to Contagion. Adrift is kind of... boring me? not quite the right word, but I'm hoping Contagon will provide that spark! The premise is very common though! Adrift is actually picking up a bit, but I had to get past the halfway mark, sadly.

  16. Happy 5 years of blogging, Greg! The blogging community is really amazing. I watched Sharknado and thought it kind of sucked but in an entertaining kind of way. Should be a perfect pick for Movies that Suck! Have a great week!

  18. Congrats on your 5 years! Even though I started blogging ten years ago, I didn't really connect with anyone or write that many posts until a year later.

Now I can't imagine life without blogging.

I do recall that movie Before Sunrise. It was fascinating.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  19. Happy Anniversary! The 100? I am not impressed with the ending. Seriously? Will they have to go to another planet?! On one hand if you are a fan of science fiction, you'll be pleased. I am certainly going to miss Monty and Harper though. Things progressed too fast and how long went by 75 or 150 years? I can't recall. I wish I could cryo sleep for one hundred years and never get old lol. Those girls would make a beautiful book cover illustration

  21. Oh wow, that is such an amazing milestone, Greg! I'm glad that I am able to help you celebrate it, that's fantastic. *g*

I really do need to get back to catching up with The 100, it has absolutely been so long that I can't remember where I left off. That's kinda sad, huh?! I actually started watching Impulse, thanks to you. I didn't realize I needed another Sci-Fi show in my life, apparently. LOL. And Before Sunrise looks like it's going to be really cute, I might have to check that out too.

I've been wanting to read Cheerleader's, it looks like it's going to be a pretty good book. I've heard mostly good stuff about it, so I'm definitely looking into a Kindle splurge. lol. I am for sure wanting to read Contagion and I really do need to get around to read Brave New World. I am horrid for not having done that yet.

If you get the chance, come by my blog and check out my Sunday Post Ramblings post.

  24. Happy Blogoversary, Greg! I think I've been in and out of blogging for about 6 years, but I did take off chunks of time when moving or ill, etc so I don't bother counting anymore :)

I love the artwork, as usual. Do you do flash fiction with them? Some of them seem to inspire a story just waiting to happen. Have a good week.

  25. Happy Blog-Birthday, Greg! We started about the same time! :) I think all the best people started that year ;)

Sharknado doesn't suck! It's the best worst movie ever! I am upset I will miss the last one tonight because Summer Slam will be on and I know that will suck in a it just sucks, kind of way. I almost would be willing to skip Summer Slam and just watch Sharknado! :) Ok I'm rambling now.

Your thoughts on book blogging post was fantastic. I had read it but wasn't able to comment so I figured I would do it here. It did make me appreciate book blogging more, my hiatus was an eye opener and I found myself realizing I love blogging to the point I can't see not doing it yet. That really was a great post! :)

Have a great week, Greg! Missed visiting your blog! Happy Reading!

  26. Your blog is always fun to see, Greg! Happy 5 year Blogoversary!

I haven't blogged too much sometimes in the past few months plus not visiting blogs very much, but now that school is starting for all the kids out there I'm feeling energized...lol! I plan (hope) to blog and comment more in the coming weeks.

Hope you have a great week!

I'm not big on video games, and have never played sims... Boyfriend Dungeon, though? It made me chuckle a little bit. It'll be interesting to hear more about how that's going to work.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  36. I began blogging in 2012 too and never looked back. It's kept me sane. LOL Started by joining twitter and someone suggested I start a blog. Now look where I am. Surrounded by fellow word lovers and buried under a pile of fabulous books!

  38. I love the film Before Sunrise. Also love the sequels. :D

I would love to see you do Sharknado. I remember when that had just come out, I thought my friend was joking when he mentioned it. It didn't seem real. Not it's kind of legendary. Haha

  40. Oh, I really like that deserted camp artwork :) I haven't seen Before, Sunrise, but this year I've seen a string of great movies with Ethan Hawke that have made me reconsider my ambivalence towards him. The "Before" trilogy gets rave reviews almost everywhere, so that might be where I venture next :)

    1. I did too. Something about it... here's this huge fire burning but no one in sight. :) And I really liked Before Sunrise- Ethan Hawke has never been my favorite either- but it's worth seeing. I haven't seen the sequels.

  41. Oh my gosh, Boyfriend Dungeon looks so weird! I love it! Dating weapons that turn into hot people, haha. I kind of want to back it on Kickstarter, but I don't think I'd like the actual fighting parts of the game, and also I'm saving my money for a different Kickstarter coming up soon. *shrugs* But I got the polearm in the quiz lol.

  55. I used to love the Sims but I haven't played it in awhile because I tend to fall down the rabbit hole and look up 8 hours later with the entire day just gone! Curious about Boyfriend Dungeon. That's a rather interesting title! I've never seen Sharknado but I'm curious about it! We've been playing a shark game here and my son is obsessed with sharks now and wants to see the Meg. I keep explaining that 1. it's not really for kids and 2. it's completely off the wall fictional but I'm not sure he believes me! Hope you're having a great week!
