Sunday Post #237

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

I had a good week although the weather has been iffy. It's still been cold and we're supposed to warm up- finally- I'll believe it when it happens. St. Patrick's Day is this weekend- is anyone doing anything fun to celebrate? I feel like March is totally flying by...

I finished People Like Us this week and thought it was pretty good. My review will be up Monday. Obsidio came out this week so of course I had to jump on that! I loved it. A solid conclusion. And I also finished up Jessica Jones S2.

Last week I reviewed Logan's Run (the movie) as well as The Rule of Mirrors. I also had a discussion post on nudity in film/ TV and got a ton of fun comments. This week I'll have my first Movies That Suck post- I'll be looking at Lake Placid and on top of all that- a discussion post on Jessica Jones 2.

  1. I still have 4 episodes to go with Jessica Jones...good series always end too quickly.

I like women with bows, huntresses.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I only tried the 2 or 3 first Jessica Jones episodes (of the second season of course), but I like it for now!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I finally finished Jessica Jones and Jarhead 3 last night. Sadly Jarhead received a thumbs down because it just didn't seem real to me. Of course Jessica Jones was good, and now I have to wait...again.(lol) Looking forward to your review, and hope your weekend is fantastic! Hugs...RO

  4. I think I watched Lake Placid a looooong time ago but I don't really remember it. Ever since I did AncestryDNA and found out that I am 41% Irish, I make it a point to celebrate St. Patrick's Day lol. My friends and I are going out for an Irish breakfast today and later a pub for drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  5. My husband is cooking up some corned beef and cabbage and we're having some people over for St. Patrick's Day.

We haven't finished Jessica Jones yet, but I'll still keep an eye out for your discussion post - I don't mind spoilers!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Oh Lake Placid! I sort of remember watching it, and I'll be looking forward to your post😁

    ReplyDelete
  7. I kind of liked Lake Placid. Bette White sure is something:) The sequels really stunk. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  8. I am so glad to hear Obsidio was satisfying. The Illuminae Files is one of my favorite series, and I would be so upset if it ended on a sour note. There's rumors of another nor'easter coming my way. I am sort of over this weekly storm thing.

    ReplyDelete
  9. As always, I love the photos at the end!
I actually watched Lake Placid a couple of times, although it's not one of my favourite "monster animal" movies.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sounds like you had some solid reading. I actually remember going to the theater ages ago and seeing Lake Placid. Sometimes cheesy is good and I probably would like it a lot better if they hadn't made more sequels because they just kept getting dumber and dumber. But sometimes it was fun to root for people to die! I love the artwork. I really love photos with the snowy settings.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ah, Lake Placid, aka "Betty White saved this movie" (or so I assume, because Betty White). I am glad you loved Obsidio though! I was... a bit underwhelmed? But I know I'll be in the minority for sure! I swear that girl in the pictures is what it would look like if Octavia and Katniss reproduced. I love the house on the water, and the Hobbit one! I think I will probably leave the stronghold (and its torch holder) alone, it does not look like a place to mess with!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I actually really enjoyed Lake Placid! Like Barb said, sometimes cheesy is good and I liked that it didn't take itself seriously, like they set out to make a "sucky" tongue-in-cheek movie and succeeded, becoming one of those "so bad it's good" examples!

  13. I’m glad you liked Obsidio. I still need to get a copy of that one. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  14. Oh my gosh, yes. Hard to believe the month is more than halfway through. Goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That picture you said reminded you of a stronghold that looked like someone was holding a torch was my favorite picture this week. The castle feel of it and then all that water. The water just look ominous.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I love that artwork of the abandoned fortress as well, I love old castles and abandoned buildings. Have a great week :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hope you get that promised warmer weather, Greg. I'll be looking forward to the first Movies That Suck post. :) I've yet to read anything by Laura Lippman even though I own at least one by her.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I did absolutely nothing to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Then again, I don't think I've ever done anything to celebrate St. Patrick's Day lol. I did share my review on Twitter for a book about leprechauns, does that count? :-P Yeah, the weather has been chilly here too. I'm so ready for the weather to just go back to being predictably hot all the time lol.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm still not past the first episode of Jessica Jones. I need to catch up.
I loved your discussion about nudity on screen! Interesting comments!

    Have a great week, Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  20. As always a beautiful post. Glad to hear you enjoyed Obsidio.
    Lynn :D

  21. I love Lake Placid - so funny and quirky:). Right now the weather here is grim - bitterly cold with snow on the ground. Hope it warms up for you, too, Greg. It's high time that Spring sprang! Have a good week.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Beautiful artwork. I've never seen Lake Placid and need to read the illuminae series. Hope you enjoy your week!

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's STILL cold here too! St. Patrick's day was full of snow and it was like -7C. Ugh :D I wish spring came already!!
Oh, so jealous that you got Obsidio :) I don't think I'll be able to get it this year. Maybe in Kindle form. GAH! I guess I'll just have to skip all those spoilers :)
Have a great week, Greg :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ah Lake Placid...the classic BAD movie. Betty White was hilarious though, so there is that!
    Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I do love those pulpy Agatha Christie covers! Classic. :) Hope you have a good week!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll look forward to your new Movies That Suck post! I like reading that kind of thing!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I had to clear the deck for Obsidio reading this week, too. I think I remember bits of Lake Placid. I read an book with an Irish setting and had a diner special plate of Corned Beef and Cabbage for St. Patrick's Day, but I'm not Irish so that's the extent of it for me. :)

Nice Pinterest art with the archers.

Have a great week and hope its a warmer one for you.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Looks like you've had some fabulous week. Here in the UK we have snow again. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am looking forward to your Movies that Suck even if I actually enjoyed Lake Placid. I watch it every time it's on. I hope it warms up for you this week because I don't think it's going to warm up here yet.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hope you weather warms up! I am currently reading The French Girl but it's a bit slow at least to me. St. Patricks Day is just another day around my house so didn't do anything.

I am curious about your Lake Placid post as I liked the first one...lol. :)

    Have a great week!

  31. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Obsidio. I just finished Gemina last night and can't wait to get my hands on a copy of Obsidio because I need to know how this story ends!

I also need to hurry up and finish Jessica Jones season 2 so that I can fully appreciate your discussion post :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. You thought Lake Placid sucked? Oh, no. That's one of my favorite movies. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Love the art you chose this week. I especially love the earthy little cabin on the hillside. Looks perfect for reading and not dealing with the outside world. I've been spending this week desperately trying to catch up after what feels like weeks of no internet so my blog visiting has not been great and I missed your movie post. I'm looking forward to the Lake Placid post! Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love that snowy fortress pic '333'. It's wonderfully atmospheric! Have a good week, Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree the month is flying by. I have watched about 4 episodes of Jessica Jones and enjoyed them. We suck at binge watching. Looking forward to your Movies that Suck feature.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I fail and have not even started Jessica Jones! I am scouring through for the discussion post and Logan's run review :) I have to admit that I just complained last night about March going by entirely too fast! I am not ready for Spring haha.. but I know I am the minority with that. Have a great week Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I still need to read Gemina ooops, and here in the UK its decided to snow. I'm not impressed the snow can go away. Hope you have a good week :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I keep hearing about Obsidio, enjoy it! I will have to check out your movie post this week.
March is flying by for me too, I think it's mainly because I've been working so much. Happy St. Patrick's Day weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The weather has been really messed up over here too, we got snow again yesterday, seriously we've never had this much in a long time, and it's already nearly the end of March! Everyone I know has been reading Obsidio as of late, I didn't end up liking the first book, I even tried it a few times! I hope this week is much better for you weather-wise! have a great week Greg!

  40. I don't think I have seen Lake Placid. I should tho. I spent most of the week watching Downton Abbey after my brother got me addicted to it. Disappointed in the ending tho. But, what can you do. I love the pictures you put up. Have a good week reading. Did you finish People Like Us? Wondering how you like it.

  41. I still haven't started Jessica Jones as I've been catching up on The Alienist. I plan to start The Punisher today, though. I'll probably get to JJ when I'm on Spring Break. Can't wait to see what you think about it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I hope you enjoy Sunburn and The French Girl.

I only watched two or three episodes of Jessica Jones...and while it was kind of interesting, it really isn't my thing. LOL

    I vaguely recall Lake Placid.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It is kinda crazy how fas this month is going by. Our weather here is is up and down, can’’t wait for spring to just get here already. Enjoy the new books and you week coming up. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm so far behind on tv shows. I haven't even started Jessica Jones S1 yet. I have seen a couple of episodes because my husband watched S1. I just want to spend my time reading rather than watching tv. Maybe when I quit my job and have more time on my hands.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm curious about Jessica Jones as there is a knitting pattern inspired by the cowl she wears. I keep forgetting to watch Roku though. We are having on and off wet weather here in the Bay Area. What'd you do for St. Patty's day? We were holed up inside the house. We actually had Costco corned beef baked in the oven on W,Th with baked, loaded potatoes, and roasted vegetables. Friday was a Costco run so I picked up another corned beef; I like how there are options to either cook it in the slow cooker, on the stove, or in the oven.

I will have to check out your nudity post next- I'm behind on my blog reading because I've been twittering for an absurd amount of time this weekend. I look forward to your Hawkeye review!

  47. Love that Rainy Nights image - beautifully atmospheric!

Hope you're not getting snowed there again. Chilly & showery here in France, and I was sent blizzard pics from Torquay this morning! Mad weather

  48. I look forward to reading your thoughts about the second season of Jessica Jones! Personally, I liked the first season so much more! The tension in the second season started to build up quite well, but in my opinion, it didn't really deliver.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I do feel like March is flying by, too. Hope the weather improves for you. I watched the trailer for Jessica Jones and I'd like to start that show. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I got Sunburn recently too! It sounds really good, so I'm looking forward to hearing how you like it :) And Lake Placid is kind of a guilty favorite of mine. Since I'm not as captivated by Logan's Run I'm *really* curious about your new post series since the shoe is on the other foot now haha! Hope you have a great week Greg :)

  51. March is flying by, for sure. My oldest child's birthday is coming up and that's always a good sign because it's right at the beginning of spring. Spring can't come quick enough!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Excited for Lake Placid. That's a good (bad) one!

    love Concrete Blond too.

I feel like March is dragging lol This past week was a bad one and I'm just in a general life slump.

    I love Concrete Blonde! 🎼

The rainy city street scene is my favorite of course. ☔

    Have a wonderful week. :)

  55. Concrete Blonde - The Bloodletting Song!!! I used to listen to that on repeat back in the day! I was such a Concrete Blonde fan. And Joey - that song too. I have to admit, I still like to play that song on loud and sing along to it! Lol.

I will have to check out your movie posts! And now I need to watch Lake Placid so I can be ready for your review! It's been a while.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wait, you mean to tell me that Lake Placid sucks (and therefore there is no reason for me to watch it?) Thanks for saving me some time, I guess.

Have a great week. - Katie

  57. I'm ready for warmer weather - I had a bit today but it's going to start raining/snowing again. I need to finish up Jessica Jones Season 1 to get to season 2, but I'm excited! I'm glad you loved Obsidio.

  59. The weather is driving me nuts, but at least you had a good week so yay for that! I agree on the March flying by and I have yet to start the 2nd season of Jessica Jones.

As always, loving the pulp covers for Agatha Christie's books.

  68. I'm watching season 2 of Jessica Jones too. It's not my favourite Marvel show but it's fun anyway. I see The French Girl everywhere, I'm thinking about taking a look into it myself. I'm a new follower by the way. Have a nice week! :)

  71. *waves hello* Hey Greg, long time no see! It's nice to be getting back into the swing of blogging again. :)

This whole year is flying by, but March has gone by the fastest! I can't believe it's almost April...and my birthday is tomorrow. Yikes! Oooh, I'm so happy to hear that you loved Obsidio, Greg. I've been dragging my feet on Gemina because I was worried the series would disappoint me, but knowing it ends strong is giving me the boost I need to finally pick it up!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yup I agree! WTH is spring?? Unfortunately we didn't do anything for SPD Glad to hear you loved Obsidio! Can't wait for the review!

  74. It sure feels like March if flying by fast. The weather has been weird here too, very cold for weeks then we got soem warm sunny days and the it got colder again and I think it's slowly warming up now.

Lots of great art in this post. That stronghold is a good one. And I like that Hobbit like house too. And the one with the cats!
