Cover Characteristics Balloons

Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.

This week's pick- Balloons

Balloons? Ack what a topic. After an initial rough start I settled on a few and I guess this one is okay. Every once in a while you get a topic you think will be smooth sailing and it turns out a bit more challenging than you thought.

  1. Ooh, look at that Sky Village cover. Beautiful. I want to read the book just for the cover.
The Mysterious Island is nice too.
But I also love the Choose your own ending book. I haven't read one of those since I was a child.
Well done on finding so many 'balloon' covers.

  2. Nah, I didn't even try to do balloons lol. But using hot air balloons was smart! I like Sky Village and The Art of Picking Up Girls. How It Feels to Fly is pretty in a subdued kind of way. But I like the red and pink!

    1. It was easier once I went for hot air balloons. :) And How It Feel To Fly is one of my favorite ones, that's just a nice cover.

  3. I figured Jules Verne would be the go to guy for this topic! I was addicted to those Choose your own adventure books but I never did get through any of them. The cover I would've used is my copy of Stephen King's IT with the eyes looking out of the drain and the balloon floating beside it.

    1. I like both of those. How It feels To Fly is just such a nice cover. And I had not seen that Husband's secret cover either, but I like it with the balloon.

  5. I think my fave is the Jules Verne collection - of course I would pick that one because it has tentacles and that seems to be an auto buy for me! You did well with this as well and I think balloons would be hard. All I can think of is a Winnie-the-Pooh book I have.

    1. I loved the Choose Your Own adventure books- those were so fun. They still print some of them although I like the older covers best. And yes- that cover for How It Feel To Fly is very nice.

  7. Those hot air balloons always speak of adventure to me. Usually the helium ones speak of joy, but that Husband's Secret one proves the exception. :) Great choices.

  10. What a fun feature! You picked some awesome covers too. I am trash at these sorts of things. I would still be looking for 5 covers a week from now.

  13. The Art of Picking Up Girls is a good one because tbh, a balloon ride probably WOULD work. And I love How it Feels to Fly! And uhh Jules Verne really has a "thing" with balloons, no? That's... interesting haha. These are great!

    1. Yes it probably would! Why didn't I ever try that ha ha? And How It Feels To Fly is one of my favorites. I'm not sure what's going on with Jules Verne and balloons, but yeah... now that you mention it. What was up with all that nonsense???

  14. This is a major reason I don't participate in this - I stink at it. It would take me forever to find these.

  15. Oh this is a tough topic! I can't think of any off the top of my head. The cover for "How it Feels to Fly" is very early 2000s contemporary YA, it's making me nostalgic! :)

  16. I love Balloons because many are steam punk though there is none on your list :) I'll have to go with the Husband Secret because I love LM AND red balloons. I had never seen that cover before though :)

  17. I like the inset pic on The Sky Village. Balloons made me think steam punk or a fairyland (?) series that I read awhile ago.

  18. It's funny that you found more than one Jules Verne book with a balloon on the cover, Greg. And you found a lot of different books for this one!
    I hope you're having a great week :)

  19. It does seem like it would be an easy topic, but I guess not so much! You made some great selections though, Greg. I have never been on a hot air balloon. My daughter went up in a little one once (it didn't go very high and was attached to a rope on the ground the entire time).
