Top Ten Movie Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week's topic is a Top Ten Movie Freebie- can be top ten all time faves, favorite rom coms, whatever. I had a hard time picking one and decided to go with... SciFi. Since this is SciFi Month (see here) so much the better. So... here we go!

  1. I've actually never seen any of these except some of the Star Wars ones, and that was a really long time ago. But I did once go to a Halloween party in which this one guy had a homemade The Birds costume and used wires and things to make birds hovering around him, and one was pulling his tie up. I didn't know him but I took a photo with him because the costume was so cool lol.

    1. I highly recommend Ex Machina and The Adjustment Bureau. Both are lots of fun. :) That sounds like an awesome costume- I love the Birds! Points for originality, and I think I'd want a photo too. :)

  2. I should definitely read and watch more sci-fi because I only saw Star Wars and Jurassic Park from your list. So I must get on that and check the other movies out :)

  3. I only recently watched Ex Machina and LOVED it. The ending was great.
Also loving the Star Wars movies of course. So excited about Rogue One.
Back to the Future is a favorite too. I watch those at least once a year.

    1. Ex Machina was great. The ending was fabulous and shocking, and I can't wait for Rogue One!

  4. Okay, so my first question would have to be if these are in any sort of order?

Obviously I love the Star Wars picks - Return of the Jedi is still my favourite of them all. I too have scarily high hopes for Rogue One which makes me nervous!!!

I actually haven't ever watched The Adjustment Bureau - I guess I really should!

Jurassic Park - also a long time favourite and I actually quite enjoyed Jurassic World too. I thought they went back to more of what made the original such a good movie.

I also love a lot about your honourable mentions. I remember being terrified by Gremlins as a kid! Total Recall is a goodie!

The Maze Runner - I read the first book and was fairly underwhelmed but I'd like to try the movie sometime.

    1. They sort of are- the top one anyway. Return of the Jedi is one of my faves too- I love everything about it. I think Rogue One looks great!

The adjustment Bureau is awesome- I hope you like it if you watch. Jurassic Park *nods*. I've only seen the Maze Runner movie...

    2. Hmm, I think I am one of the rare people that didn't think ESB was better than RoTJ (which is my personal fave). In fact it was my least favourite of the original trilogy - although that's not saying much as it's still one of my favourite films of all time!

  5. I used to love The Birds! I haven't seen it in many years. I love Jurassic Park too.

    1. I haven't seen The Birds in a while but it's one of my fave older movies.

  6. I remember playing the Blade Runner video game with my brother when we were very young and we were SO SCARED because of that atmosphere! The movie is great, too.

I'd put Star Trek on this list as well! :)
And yeah, I'm excited about Rogue One as well!

I watched The Maze Runner without reading the books and I liked it. I hope the second movie is as good as this one - but I did hear some unflattering comments about the book series.

    1. Yeah I can see that! I cannot WAIT for Rogue One.

I liked MR too, and the second one. I haven't read the books.

  7. Nice list! I love the Star Wars saga. I am looking forward to Rogue One but not as much as I'm anticipating Episode VIII. Hope that one will be better than Episode VII (though I did like VII). I never think of Jurassic Park as science fiction for some reason even though I know it is. I loved that movie as a teen. It was the first movie that made me really interested in special effects.

    1. Star Wars is a fave too, and I'm super excited about Rogue One. I can't wait for VIII either, although I'm a little more excited about this one for some reason. I think I felt a little burned with VII, but VIII has a new director and we'll get more of Luke so I think it'll be good.

Jurassic Park is such a classic, and I had to think too is it really science fiction? I eventually went with yes just due to the cloning thing.

  8. I really like the Star Wars movies. I cannot get my husband to watch them though. Gremlins!! Loved that movie as a kid :)

    1. No? Not a fan huh? I know lots of people who don't care much about 'em either. :) And gremlins- yes!!

  9. Escape from New York is probably my favourite dystopia movie. I should go re-watch it some time.

    1. I love that movie, although I like the first half maybe the most and I'm less interested in it towards the end. Atmosphere though. :)

  10. I just adore the Escape from New York movie and Gremlins will always remind me of being a child. I used to have a stuffed one. So many great movies here!

    1. I do too, and Gremlins is a trip! Escape from NY just has atmosphere!

  11. Great list, Greg! The original Star Wars movies are so epic. (I guess that would be episodes 4, 5 and 6? I get confused.) I remember seeing them in theaters as they released so they're very much tied to my childhood. Escape from New York is a good one. Kurt Russell was awesome as Snake Pliskin. :) I totally wanted my own Mogwai after seeing Gremlins. And Flash Gordon was so hilariously camp. Classic. :)

    1. Thank you. I love the Star Wars movies too (has to be the originals though, like you say). And yes Flash Gordon is so ridiculously campy but I love it for that. And Escape- so dated but it was great at that time. :)

  12. Great list! I love The Birds or really anything Hitchcock. I read the original story (by Daphne du Maurier) a few years ago and was really surprised to see how different it was though the overall feel is similar. I've seen the Star Wars movies a number of times but I've never seen Forbidden Planet and I want too. Actually several of these I've heard of but haven't seen. I'm hoping to get some movie watching in over Thanksgiving weekend!

    1. I like Hitchcock too. I like how he treated suspense as something where it's more tense not to see necessarily, rather than shocking with gruesomeness. And I imagine the story Birds is different from the movie! I hope you like Forbidden Planet. It's an older one but it has a lot of atmosphere and is good for its time. I love movies at Thanksgiving!

  13. Empire made my list too for best films of the 1980's. The original trilogy is the best. I love Hitchcock - To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest are probably my favorites, but they are caper films versus SciFi. Great list!

    1. It's probably my fave 80's movie. It seems to have aged better than the earlier one and I think holds up. I enjoy North by Northwest too- one of my favorites.

  14. I was so happy to see Star Wars on your list -- I have my fingers crossed for the new movie too!

  15. Ummm...where to even start? I remember loving The Abyss growing up, Jurassic Park will always be one of my all-time favourites, and I saw The Birds on the big screen at a local theatre and it scared the crap out of me (and made me give my local birds some serious side-eye for a while). Awesome list!!

    1. The birds would be awesome on a big screen i would think. A terrifying movie in its own way.

  16. You have some really great picks here!!! Ahhhh, I am not sure where to start. I love the Star Wars films and am sooooooooooo excited for Rogue One to release! Jurassic Park and Back to the Future and The Maze Runner, I really love those three too. Some of these I haven't seen but really want to. I picked to do my favourite movies for this movie freebie week, you can check out my post here if you like.

  18. The only one of these I've seen is The Adjustment Bureau but I really liked that one.

  19. I'm so excited about Rogue One. I. Can't. Wait.

...and yes, I've got a soft spot for The Adjustment Bureau (although not as much as my beloved. I love when he's the soppy one) too. Emily Blunt and Matt Damon just have unreasonable amounts of charisma, and the supporting cast is excellent. In fact, it's one of those movies that just make me squeak 'shiny!' and sigh happily.

    1. I loved Ex Machina! I want to see it again. And Return of the Jedi is definitely a favorite- I know some people don't like the Ewok thing, but I love the confrontation at the end, Luke and his dad, the music... it's majestic. :)

  30. Phone just ate my comment :( I'll try again...

Adjustment bureau was great, I loved it. Have you read the book that Blade runner was based on? I thought it was much better than the film.

By the way, a technical question. Did you receive a notification that I replied to your comment on my blog? I am having some server issues, so it would be reassuring to know if you did :)

    1. Thank you for commenting! I'm glad you liked Adjustment Bureau, I thought it was great. :) I did read the book Blade Runer was based on, but it was a long time ago- maybe early in high school- so I don't remember a lot.

I'm sorry to say I didn't get a notification of your reply- I did get a notification of this comment though, but that doesn't really help. :) Sorry... but then again I don't always, it just depends on the commenting systems. I sometimes wonder if there's any rhyme or reason to it!

    2. Hmmm. Then I wonder why it doesn't work. Yeah, when I answer comments people just don't come back, so I guess they might not receive notification. Platforms make blogging unnecessarily complicated... Grr. Oh well! Thanks for telling me :)
