Sunday Post #147

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

Another nice week, other than a bit of rain the weather has been nice. Lots of sun. I've been cruising through books to start off the summer and most of them have been pretty good, and I'm feeling like reading some fantasy- summer always puts me in the mood for that though. I'd like to read some urban fantasy as well.

Trust Issues Part 3 went up this week and it was nice to bring it to a place where I can continue the story, or move on to something else. It was intended to be an exercise in flash fiction and I never expected  to do a part two or three, but it's been nice to get writing again. Maybe I'll share a fantasy story next. And Bookstore Spotlight may come back in July, if I can just get up north to visit a few.

I reviewed a fun novella Date Night on Union Station this week (and it's free on Amazon, although check first) and I received the book I won from the Goodreads giveaway. Tuesday I'll be discussing skinchanging and if it's bad in the context of the Game of Thrones books, and will be reviewing Exile for Dreamers as well. And I'll have a sign up post for the High Summer Read-a-thon coming up in July. And the usual thoughts on some show finales and various episodes.

And I'm listening to...

  1. Another great recap Greg! Glad to hear the weather has been nice there, it's been really cold here. It's been kind of a quiet week for bookish news though, appreciate the star wars links!

  2. Our weather finally decided it was summer so the heat and the humidity have gone way up. I'd rather be cold than hot though so it works. Yay for bookstore spotlight! I hope that comes back. We are ready for the new Legend of Zelda game here. It looks like it should be a good one. Have a great week!

    1. Yeah the heat is on the way, it was very humid here today too. I'm really looking forward to bringing Bookstore Spotlight back if I can just get to the stores and put it together!!

I love the look of that Zelda game! Never played one but do have a WiiU and need more games for it lol.

  3. Wonderful recap as usual Greg^^ Glad to hear you got some sun, they kept promising us some but it never came out. 2 Saturdays in a row it was supposed to be nice all day and when I'd get off work, it'd start raining >.< HOWEVER, today is gorgeously sunny and I'm finished work in about 40 minutes so let's cross our fingers and hope I can enjoy it :D Happy weekend my friend! xx

  5. As always, you have a striking combination of videos, games and images to enjoy. I am out of my depth here, though, not being a viewer of any of these shows. I haven't even watched Star Wars since the original movie came out...way back in the day. LOL.

Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog. Enjoy your week.

  6. YAY for The Invisible Library! I have that one as well, though I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to read it. Maybe next next week!

Have a fantastic week, Greg. =)

  7. I'm loving your pulp fiction covers Greg... It reminds me of my childhood. Not that I read then but I remember seeing them and probably in my Uni holidays, seeing older books like that in second hand bookstores!

I've not watched 12 Monkeys (the show) but started iZombie recently and am loving it! I'm only part-way through s1 (and just watching it on free-to-air TV) but they're showing 2 episodes at a time so we're racing through season 1!

  9. I'm looking forward to reading The Invisible Library and have had Date Night for a while. Moved it onto my summer reading challenge so I could get it off my TBR. Been binging on some Netflix shows as several have added new seasons. And doing a lot of reading. If only writing the reviews was as easy. LOL

  11. That's interesting that summer puts you in the mood for fantasy. I feel like it seems like it'd be the opposite, that summer would put people in the mood for lighter, contemporary... summery type books. Fantasy seems like a heavier genre. Then again, my reading moods never actually change with the season, so what do I know? Lol.

That's great that the writing is going so well. I really should get back to writing, at least just pantsing some little stories, but I just haven't had it in me lately. But it's like a snowball effect, seems like it gets easier the more you do it and vice versa.

I don't even understand this pulp fiction cover, haha. They're so strange, who ever thought of those things?!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It does, for some reason. I love reading fantasy in the summer, I suspect it has to do with reading outside. Until I blogged I mainly just read fantasy... so I probably equate summer reading with that. Who knows?

My writing comes and goes too. I'll go months without writing any stories then I get the impulse one day and crank stuff out. Trust issues was a pic- I just saw it and wanted a story about it. :) You should post some stuff...

Sometimes it's the taglines on those pulp books. That one... lol. Seriously? Who wrote those???

      Delete
  12. That pulp cover ... anatomy does not work that way. I find summer puts me in the mood for epic historical fiction for some reason. Have a great week. :)

    1. Funny how summer reading is different for each of us, huh? I do sometimes change my reading taste depending on the season, although I don't think I used to. A new development? And yeah that cover is... off. I couldn't resist though after seeing the tagline...

  13. Hope you get to enjoy lots of Fantasy books Greg, the summer makes me want to read contemporary books, that are light and easy to read.
    The Invisible Library looks great!

  14. Yay for nice weather! It has been pretty good here too. I love that everyone has their own idea of summer reads. For you fantasy and for me easy contemporary reads. Hope you get to a bunch of them over the summer. Have a great week!

    1. Glad it's been nice there too. Contemps are nice over the summer, nothing too heavy and they do seem tailor made for summer. Have a great week too!

  15. I usually prefer to read fantasy and mystery in the fall and winter months. I know that is when I first read The Lord of the Rings and A Game of Thrones and I'm pretty sure that's when I started Harry Potter too. In summer I make more time on my reading pile for contemporary "beach reads".

I have Exile for Dreamers on my TBR pile at the moment. I hope to read it soon but it will have to wait till after I get through my book discussion books.

I'm a bit worried about tonight's episode of Game of Thrones and the fates of some favorite characters. Two episodes left means some major deaths are likely on the way.

Hope you have a great week!

    1. I'm with you on GoT, I think there might be some surprises tonight. I'm a little worried too! And I know what you mean about beach reads. It is nice to have something relaxing.

  17. The weather is SOOOOO annoying. One minute its like living on the sun and the next it's like living underwater and then like living in alaska. This world really needs to make up it's mind. I'm getting confused and haven't put my winter clothes away yet because I'm scared it might snow. ;)

Congrats on your Goodreads wins, I have only won twice and never won again. It's one of the hardest giveaways to win I think lol

  22. Bah! I'm so sick of the weather! It started out nice this morning, but has now reverted to windy and chilly. It certainly doesn't feel like June. Still, I've your pulp cover to cheer me up - I love the fact that despite her being an underwater predator, there is NOTHING streamlined about her shape:). Have a great week watching and reading.

  23. Yay for bookstore spotlight returning! I'm always curious about other bookshops and even other people's bookshelves.

I was wondering about flash fiction. Is it okay to just leave it unfinished with no conclusion or do writers try to wrap it up since they seem to start in random places in the plot. I really enjoyed your writing and look forward to more. It's whet my appetite to find a site online to give it a try. Do you do that too?

LOL- Death Deep Down, she doesn't look like a shark, she looks dead to me! Those covers, just wow, is all I can say of the genre.

    Enjoy the week, Greg.

    1. I'm hoping to get Bookstore Spotlight back up and running, it's been too long! And I think it's okay to leave flash fiction unfinished- to be honest I don't know all the rules (if there are any) but I saw somewhere that 1000 words is a good length. That's kinda what I was going for although I ran a little over that. It was just going to be a one off but I wanted to continue the story a bit.

I have not done anything online although I think people do at Wattpad. I know LaLa in the Library has a story there I've been wanting to go read...

  24. We had similar weather here this week, sun and some rain. But as my boyfriend has hay fever the rain was welcome.

Oh I didn't realize Trust Issues was flash fiction you wrote. Once I have time I'll have to go back to part 1 and read them all. That's exciting you're writing!

I've played some of the Zelda games, but never got far. My english wasn't good enough back then to fully follow the story and hints and with all the puzzles it could be hard to figure out what to do when you don't fully understand everything. They were fun though.

    I hope you'll have a great week!
