Sunday Post #117

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

The temps took a nosedive this week, but the sun was out so the days weren't too bad. It feels like late fall, the leaves are down and it's starting to feel like the holiday season. Then late in the week we got blustery winds and sleet, even a bit of snow. Now the sun is back out and there's a beautiful blue sky- looks like a great fall day. Thanksgiving is in two weeks.

SciFi Month is half over and there have been a lot of good posts. You can find the schedule here. This week I posted What if Luke and Leia Were Together and got some great responses. And the HoHoHo readathon started.

  1. The weather was cooler here too, felt more like fall. I've been enjoying your Sci Fi month posts, looking forward to more. Stay warm and have a good week!

  2. We've actually had pleasant weather this week since it decided we weren't actually Seattle and we got to see some sun. I'm not looking forward to seriously cold temps though. They don't last too long here thankfully and normally I can get by without leaving the house. The SciFi posts are so fun and I liked the Luke and Leia post. I'm horribly behind on my commenting but I'm getting there! Have a great week and stay warm!

    1. Hope you guys have a great week (and no rain!). Our two days of rain and sleet was no fun, it was very windy and just not very nice out. We seem to have cleared up now. Right now it's sunny and 50's and I'll take it!

I'm enjoying the SciFi posts too and have found some good ones. Don't worry about commenting, I understand! :) Enjoy your weekend!

  3. We had a very warm autumn until a few days ago, now the temperatures are not "normal" yet, but closer :) I love that video about the libraries, even if my own library doesn't employ enough people to give courses or help kids with their homework, sadly. And I simply can't wait to see Allegiant !

  4. I enjoyed Divergent...and need to watch the subsequent movies.

    Great table! Thanks for sharing....

  5. Are you doing the Ho Ho Ho readathon too?! You're very diligent. I'm just not organised enough. Plus I'm not a fan of Christmas!

  6. How are you liking My True Love Gave to Me?

Weather here was pretty nice up until Friday. We now have rain and a horrible wind.

    1. I am liking it so far, except for one story they've all been good so far. It's a nice anthology.

We had rain and wind, awful weather for two days, then it cleared. Cloudy and blustery and just a mess. :)

  7. Stokes book looks very good. Have you read Illuminae? You would really enjoy it. I till cannot believe we are two weeks from Turkey Day. We need to get our holiday lights up before the cold sets in.

    1. I did read illuminae, and yes it was good. I can see all the hype for it now. And yeah- Thanksgiving is almost here, what's up? Hard to believe... :)

  8. Wow, that guy made the holochess table. I'm impressed. Okay, I haven't been the biggest fan of the Divergent series after the first book, and the movies have been ... meh. BUT, Allegiant actually looks really good! Better than the book.

    1. I know, is that table something or what? It looks very real. I think Allegiant looks good too, and have no idea what the story is as I haven't read that book yet. I think it looks good. I kinda liked Insurgent even though I know it deviated from the books a bit, um, much. :)

  9. I enjoyed Divergent but haven't watched the second movie yet. I do like the look of the Allegiant trailer though so I must catch up.

  10. Looks like some good books. Need looks interesting I might check it out. Here is our sunday post http://dualreads.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/sunday-post-15th-november.html

  11. We've actually had a warm week this week, even if some days were very weird, with fog and very low visibility. We're supposed to have some nice, sunny days next week, too, and then winter should arrive next Sunday with snow being in the forecast :)
Have a fantastic week ahead, Greg, and happy reading.

  12. It appears we all got a taste of fall this week. I even turned on my furnace to make sure everything is in working condition for colder times. Even living in the south it gets frigid sometimes and I don't do well with cold. Have a wonderful week and enjoy the sunshine:)

  13. For 1/2 a second I thought you made the Holochess set!!! I was like, "That is amazing!!" Who knew you could work plastics like that, right?

That girl from WhyMermaids is kind of hard to watch but I loved what she had to say about libraries - I want her library!

Have a great week - stay warm!

    1. I know, that would be pretty cool wouldn't it? I would love to have one of those!

LOL about Whymermaids- I had not thought of that, but yeah maybe she is a little... enthusiastic at times?

  14. I was sad when the weather got colder (and very windy) here but at least I didn't see snow though nearby towns had a little. I can't believe Thanksgiving is almost here!

I liked that Christmas anthology but forgot to review it last year. I'll need to reread it this year and write a proper review!

I haven't watched Insurgent yet and I wasn't planning too. My interest in that series kind of died with the death of a character...

    1. I can't either. We didn't get much snow but you could see a little flurrying. It was mainly sleet and very windy. Lovely weather this time of year. :)

I wanted to read that anthology last year and never did, now I'm enjoying it. It's hit or miss like all anthologies are, usually, but overall I'm liking it.

I actually liked Insurgent even though it deviated from the book, but I totally understand. I know the spoiler at the end of Allegiant and that frankly is probably why I haven't read Allegiant yet...

  15. The weather finally started to cool off this week and I am LOVING it. The house is so cozy and it's perfect weather for getting darker. I am a little jealous of your snow. We might have a slightly milder winter in NJ.

I am in-love with the Holochess Table. That would be awesome to show off in a house. So unique and a total conversation starter.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

    1. Like you, I don't mind the cooler weather generally. And we've had sun with cooler temps, a nice combo. Too bad all winter can't be like this. :)

That table is so cool. Can you imagine friends coming over (especially geeky friends) and seeing that? I thought it looked just like in the movie!

  16. I don't think Luke and Leia would have been compelling as a couple; Mark Hamill was not nearly as hot as Harrison Ford. Also, at the time there was a soap opera that was insanely popular because of a couple Luke and Laura - and it would have been too close.

    1. That's true- the consensus seems to be that Han is the better choice. I just thought it fun to explore the other side, and as a kid seeing the first movie always thought they'd be an item. But it worked out good! And I forgot about Luke and Laura- you're so right! That might have been a bit much...

  17. I need to make time to read Allegiant. I know a lot of people didn't enjoy it but I am a big fan of the series.
I have mixed feelings about the weather. I can't wait for snow, but I am not quite ready to be stuck in the house either. This year it didn't get warm enough for me to leave the house without a coat until June. That is a long as winter.

    1. I like the series too, and am looking forward to Allegiant. I haven't read that book yet, but should before the movie gets here. And I've liked the movies so far- I know not everyone has, but I've enjoyed them.

  18. I loved your cover characteristics last week, the butterflies; curious now about this week's :) Also curious about what people said on your post "What if Luke and Leia Were Together" ewwww lol. My hubby and kids would die for that holochess table! :)

    1. This week is books, and I've had a bit of a struggle finding ones I want to use! Should be interesting... :)

LOL about Luke and Leia- I should have prefaced that with "if they weren't siblings" ha ha. It did get some interesting responses- and the consensus seems to be Han.

  20. First time stopping in via The Sunday Post linkup. The temperatures here in CenTex have also taken a slight dive, but for most it's pleasantly cool. I just get cold too easily. Yesterday I found Christmas movies already on the TV, so the holiday season is in swing. Happy reading!

    1. Thank you for stopping by- welcome! I like Christmas movies, it just makes it feel festive and the holiday is coming so fast anyway. Soon lights will be up and Christmas music will be playing (or already is some places). Love this time of year.

  21. Got windy here and that helped bring the majority of the leaves down. Of course, now I have to engage in another Battle of Leafageddon, but that should be the last one. lol That holochess table is pretty cool!

    1. Leafageddon, LOL. It's like doing battle sometimes! All our trees are in the back so our front yard is fine, but the back... that's something else again. Could spend all day raking and not make a dent- or at least feels like it.

  22. It has turned off cooler here too and it's raining! :( I am not a fan of rain this time of the year cause its cold. It just looks like late fall or winter out and it makes me feel blah. Good snuggling under the blanket with a book weather. :)

    Enjoy your reads!

  23. I loved the Allegient trailer but it has been so long since I read the book that some of the scenes don't look familiar. Either way I can't to see it. I also have Illuminae and I look forward to your review. It's getting really close to the Star Wars movie release and I better do my movie marathon soon lol. Have a great week!!

  24. Oh we had such dreary windy weather here this week. It just cleared up and is super chilly. I don't think I could handle snow yet though! I still need to read My True Love Gave to Me so can't wait to hear what you think. Have a great week!!

    1. I'm enjoying it for the most part, some of the stories are meh but then some are quite good. A typical anthology I guess. :)

I'm not ready for snow either.

  25. I told that snow it was not welcome when it tried to make an appearance last week. The waves at the pier and boardwalk were amazing while scary. Looks like we will enjoy a few more mild days. Have a great week.

  28. I always think the sun makes a huge difference, even if its cold outside. I will look forward to your review of Illuminae, think it could be one I'd like. I see the Allegiant trailer, I have read the trilogy but never watched the movies, perhaps I should. When I was teaching my students went to see it but I didn't want to see the violence!

  29. I really enjoyed the Divergent trilogy, although Allegiant was my least favourite. The movies were good too. Not real impressed that Allegiant is going to be split into 2 movies but I guess they're just following suit with what's been done before. Have a great week and happy reading :)

    1. I haven't read allegiant yet ( I know the ending so my motivation has been low, I guess) but I've enjoyed the movies and am looking forward to the movie version. I should probably read the book beforehand, as I'll enjoy knowing more of the context. And I agree- this trend of splitting the last book into two movies is aggravating! :)

  30. I read My True Love Gave To Me last winter and quite enjoyed it. I think short story collections are fun during this period of time, especially if you're short on time with holiday prep. What I liked in particular with My True Love Gave To Me is that the stories encompassed a number of holidays, not just Christmas.

    Happy reading!

  34. So much good stuff in this post. We have had constant rain it seems since Halloween. We need it though here in Oregon. The Star Wars table is way cool. I totally want the Paula Stokes book, and I still need to watch Insurgent!

  35. I read My True Love Gave to Me last year around the holidays. It was a great read! I hope you are enjoying it.

  36. Out weather was cold and rainy, but it warmed up to 60° today. I will be on the lookout for your Illuminae review. I bought it in hardcover, but I haven't started reading it yet. I have to drop by your Ho-Ho-Ho post and your Beyond the Books. Have a wonderful week. :)

  37. We had colder weather here too and lots of rain and wind. I always forget when's thanksgiving as we don't celebrate it here. The Allegiant trailer reminds me that I still have to read that book, but I can't really find the motivation and someone spoiled me about a big twist in the book. I hope you have a great week!

  38. My True Love Gave to Me sounds like a good Yuletide read - and thanks for sharing the Allegiant trailer - my 13 year old girl squealed out loud when she saw it. We had a scifi/steampunk reading theme a year ago, and I enjoyed reading books from that genre. :)
