Sunday Post

This week went by fast. The nice weather continued with temps in the 80's and sunshine. July is turning out nice.

This past week I reviewed Big Little Lies (loved it) and also reviewed a Choose Your Own Adventure book. I also did a Teaser Tuesday and a Waiting On Wednesday (a fun MG title). And if you've read Big Little Lies, let me know- I'd love to talk about that one!

Next week I'll be reviewing Caught Read Handed (a fun cozy) and maybe something else- The Husband's secret maybe? - depending on the week.

Some more "up north" pics- celebrate summer!

Click to see large- this is from Sleeping Bear Dunes in northern Michigan.

BOOKISH NEWS

Not much bookish- but

Some "up north" news.

Floatilla seeks to reclaim world record- more than 3,000 kayaks and canoes

Last week I shared a video of a sandbar party that got out of hand- so this video shows a little nicer event. Love all the colorful kayaks!

And here's another video I found on youtube- of Sleeping Bear Dunes. I thought I'd include it because I've done this hike before- and it is tiring (but very rewarding). Enjoy!

Captivated Reader has a Bookish quote of the day.

This is a time lapse montage of Traverse City- kinda neat. Horizon Books is at 3:38 (love the nighttime view). This was taken in winter so doesn't really show the natural beauty of the area but it shows the main street.

ReadReadRead reviews The Girl On The Train.

And this Star Wars/ Fury Road combo is kinda cool.

  1. It certainly is beautiful Up North! We have not been to Sleeping Bear Dunes since our kids were younger (15 years). The Husband's Secret is a good read, perfect for summer. Have a great week.

  2. Oh, look at that blue sky and water! Gorgeous, and so relaxing.

I still need to read your review of Big Little Lies and I see you have another book by that author. I haven't read her but I've heard good things.

    1. It is beautiful up there, for sure. I could live up there is there were jobs. :)

I kinda raved about Big Lies it was just really good, I thought. Didn't expect to like it that much- the author's humor and the character (Madeline mostly) did it for me. :)

    1. I was hooked by the first page, mainly. The whole idea of the trivia night and what happened there, kept my interest. And I loved how there were snippets of interest from the other parents- some were snarky and it just really added to the book.

The Great Lakes are nice because they're like the ocean, but no sharks, stingrays or any of that. Just freshwater!

    1. I agree! That's an absolutely beautiful area to kayak, so much water and beautiful areas. And the Moran book at times made me feel like I was in Ft. Myers- I thought she did a great job imagining that setting.

I hope you read Big Lies I'd love to hear what yu think of it. A great book todiscuss, I imagine it would be great for book clubs!

  13. As soon as I started scrolling, I knew that was Sleeping Bear! I really need to drag my family over there! Hopefully next year will be the year we do it. My son is deathly afraid of all flying things right now :(

Now you need to get up Isle Royale and we'll talk ;)

  16. Those pics are beautifull with the sand dunes and all that water, it reminds me a bit of the coats of The Netherlands, although they usually are more busy. That choose your own adventure book sounds fun. And all we have is now sounds like an interesting and thought provoking book, I hope you'll enjoy it! Have a great week!

  19. Sleeping Bear Dunes looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I loved Big Little Lies. The Husband's Secret is also pretty good. I wanted to read both with my book discussion groups but there were always too many holds on library copies and by now they've all read the books.

  20. YAY The Husband's Secret is my favourite of all Liane Moriarty's novels! I'm binge watching Hannibal at the moment, finished season 1 and omg it is freaky good! Love your summer photos ... I'm longing for spring. Not that I should whinge, we really only have a few horrendously cold weeks of winter in our state in Australia. Have another wonderful week and enjoy your new reads :)

  21. Hi Greg :D
Looks like a fun week! I love your photos :) The sea looks so blue! You just don't get that where I live :-/ the UK (generally speaking) doesn't have very nice beaches unless you're on the south coast. Either way it looks like an amazing place to be :) Thanks for sharing :D
    Have a great week,

  22. I love the photos and video from Sleeping Bear Dunes from northern Michigan, Greg. A beautiful area. My husband and I watched some of The 100 a few years ago, I think. Then we lost track of it. Maybe we'll go back and watch again. Have a great week.

  23. That timelapse cityscape video was marvelous. I am going to give the link to my friend who does a lot of promotional things for our downtown business district. He recently had a drone flyover video done of the city, but I really liked this timelapse streetlevel footage. I did get to your WOW post. I really love the cover of A Sliver of Stardust. Have a wonderful week. :)

  24. Summer (and winter!) in the north is wonderful. I'm originally from the north myself, and I enjoy the different temperatures and all four seasons. The kayaks look great, it's almost like a mosaic from above.
I want to read All We Have Is Now, it seems like a tense story, with both hope and despair.
Have a fantastic week and happy reading.

  25. Nice pictures of Sleeping Bear Dunes! I think my brother-in-law and his family went there several times when they lived in Muskegon. After our trip this summer, and the photos you sometimes post, my appreciation for the Great Lakes is growing by leaps and bounds!

Enjoy your new reads. The Ellery Adams looks very tempting!
