Joon was alone when Hillier arrived. He smiled as she cleared the room, gun raised.
"He's gone."
"Who?"
"Me."
Her eyebrows raised.
"Let's do this outside."
They went out into the sunshine. Joon was tired, stumbled a bit. She caught his arm, and Maia, a distance away, noticed. Hillier waved at her to come over.
"What is it?"
"We've had an unauthorized visitor."
Joon explained his conversation to them.
"He said they're in the Cretaceous? And the 25th? Do you mean... 25th century?"
Joon shrugged tiredly.
"Well, that explains why this place is unmanned."
"Joon wasn't obviously part of the previous team, though. So where is this coming from?"
"How many Joons could there be?" asked Joon.
*******
This was all different now.
Joon thought back to his conversation. With other Joon. He envied the man, honestly. Innocent. No mind wipes yet. Maia.
How he would kill to have Maia.
But no... not kill. He wasn't that far gone yet. He could have killed the other Joon right then, and just had Maia. Who would know? But no.
Yvette would not be pleased. But he didn't need to tell. No one needed to know. Just let it play out. There had been a time when he'd been like other Joon, taking Stella's orders. He kind of missed Stella, to be honest. And Mallory. Sweet Mallory. They'd fallen together a while after Maia... didn't return. Those sweet lips.
Back at Cretaceous One he was disgusted again as another group went out in a roar of engines. More dinosaur hunting. He could see the hovercraft some distance away, chasing a gallimimus herd, energy weapons leaving bodies thrashing in the dust.
Jerks.
Jack came striding out of a pavilion as he approached.
"How'd it go?"
"No problems," he lied.
"All set for takedown?"
Joon nodded, although he realized there could be problems if Jack sent a team to wipe down Triassic base and found... Joon's other team there.
Shrug.
"What's all this?" he inquired, as the hunters roared by.
"Yvette should be running a tighter ship," Jack growled.
"We agree on that."
"Any update on Sanctuary?"
"Just that the Faction... lost."
"They'll be sending a team, if they haven't already. You sure Triassic was okay?"
"Yeah." Joon felt bad for lying.
"Alrighty. Let's get out of here."
Wow, so many alternate universes you've got here..a world within a world..this is getting very interesting. And each time I think of Hillier I'm hearing and seeing Kate MacKinnon. OH NO..what will go wrong now...especially with bad liar Joon...π€π€π€π€π€π€π€ Thanks for reading. Yeah, we did a little contest at Urstyle "She read my Fortune" and the Roxanne faceclaim was the fortune teller. The Never Let Me Go is an older one. Thanks very much for reading and your comments. The Liv story- Yes, I think of all the foods I would want to try if I were in Korea. We do have a new Korean place with fried chicken and corn dogs. I was like Liv..disappointed in the corndogs. Recently I made fried Mozzarella sticks. Which you have to dip in egg first, then flour. Dip again in egg and finally breadcrumbs. Then fry in oil. This was a Kids in The Kitchen project from our library. Although, I don't think a kid should be making these. Believe me it was a mess before and afterward. Hope you are off to a good start of the week. All the best to your writing. Looks like some fun is in store for you! Keep writingπ€ππ€
ReplyDeleteI have to say I am relying on the previous comment to know what could be going on lol. I still enjoy reading your story though.
ReplyDeleteLove the two Joons! And their conversation before...so fun. Now I'm wondering how many Joons there are. :D
ReplyDeleteUy las cosas se complican. Los dos Joons van a dar muchos problemas. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the alternate universes!
ReplyDeleteConverging times... will total chaos ensue? π€
