Top Ten Tuesday #239

This week is new authors I read last year and I tried. I honestly did. My reading was so bad in 2020 I had trouble finding ten new authors- I mean, I had close to ten but honestly? I'm just not feeling it. So here is part three of my vintage SF covers. This is more fun.

    I loved the Tom Cruise movie, War of the Worlds! I know it came out as a radio drama, too, narrated by Orson Wells and was so realistic people called in worried about an alien invasion! I used to listen to radio dramas late at night with my parents. Long, long time ago! Good times. :)

    Yeah, a few of the authors I picked that were new to me ones, weren't necessarily favorites either, I just chose them to help add to my 10! I read a lot of TBR authors last year and they were all ones I've read before and loved.

    Okay, Andre Norton is a definite favorite of yours. After The Rains just give me the creeps Greg. Any doomsday with water freaks me out a bit!!

    Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of the very few alsmost sci-fi-ish books I've enjoyed! LOL Good list for sci-fi fans.

    Omigosh, I had that copy of Journey to the Center of the Earth as a kid! I found it in a used SFF bookstore. And I remember seeing some of those Andre Norton covers, though I haven't actually read those three titles (even though I was quite a fan of Norton for a while.)

    That AFTER THE RAIN cover is terrifying! The others look too fantastical to happen in real life. AFTER THE RAIN, though? Yikes.

    The cover of After the Rain gives me Planet of the Apes vibes... when they saw the Statue of Liberty at the end.

    My reading is the same but I've read 3 books in January so far (2 were under 40 pages though) so maybe the tide is turning for me.

    Okay that bat-monster is just not okay. Nope nope nope. Hell, neither is whatever is coming out of that poor man's spaceship. Can you even imagine? "Got my soil samples, let's head home!" No, sir, there are alien snakes here to eat you. After the Rain is freaky- reminds me of like, the opposite of the Dead Zone! And is it just me, or does the spaceship in Galactic Derelict look like he's got a case of the sads? I mean, I get it, but it's just fun! Great topic choice!

    Awesome, clearly more fun for me as well! Can't make up my mind which cover is my favorite, but the covers seem to match the title -- not so true these days where it's mostly just explosions and fancy fonts.
    And I hear you - 2020 was not my year for reading either. Something I'm trying to make up for with a vengeance in 2021, haha.

    Hallo, Hallo Greg,

    Eh, I feel you! 2020 wrecked my readerly life as well. Overall, I read the least amount of books and I think I had a record all-time low of finished reads vs new authors and the one thing I was proud of was how many guest features I hosted. But overall? Yeah, I feel you on this topic! When I was assembling my End of the Year Survey it put a lot into perspective about my final thoughts as a book blogger and reader in 2020. I ended up reconciling it all and feeling better but at the start of it? It just felt really depressing!!
