Star Born is an older science fiction novel with a very nice cover by Dean Ellis. Something about the rocket, at night, with tiny people illuminated in the various openings, a crane loading or unloading something, the rugged otherwordly landscape- even a moon off on the left hand side- just very evocative. This pretty much sums up old school science fiction for me, the golden age of science fiction when anything seemed possible, and we dreamed that we might someday make it to other worlds.
I love staring at this one and just drinking in the details. What planet are they on, and what are they doing?
Here's a better look.
Hi Greg! I've created the link-up for Wondrous Words Wednesday and I think it can be fun if you want to join us some or other time. Especially with all your space-lingo! Start jotting down those space and sci-fi wondrous words and join us somewhere.
ReplyDeletePS: Yes, your picture is nice. Even I like it!

I love this cover too, and I love seeing just the artwork without the textπ
ReplyDeleteThat cover screams Scifi. LOL. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou're right this is a great cover. And I particularly like that blue color.
ReplyDeleteI really like the cover--especially the close up. I'm a sucker for starry skies.
ReplyDeleteI really like all the little figures - I would never have looked closely enough to spot them if you hadn't mentioned that detail.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Yes, this definitely screams old school and I like it for its possibilities, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about the style of old school scifi but can I just say that I absolutely love that art!

ReplyDeleteAn amazing cover, reminds me of an old Doctor Who episode with the last humans
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice cover! I didn't even notice the people in the openings until you mentioned it, what a nice, detailed touch.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a nice cover :D
ReplyDeleteThat is a GREAT cover, I love the colors!
ReplyDeleteI do like the colours on the cover a lot! I love reading science fiction but it has been a while since I delved into classic science fiction and I would like to return to it soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great cover. You can almost feel the anticipation for what they might face on the mission and wonder what is out there lurking in the dark!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of Moonraker (the movie not the book). Love the vintage look and the colors they chose.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love this cover, too. π
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cover, Greg and I agree the little details like people in the lit windows is brilliant. It works well with the music too. π
ReplyDeletetotally agree this cover is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed a gorgeous cover. I went and checked its year of publication -- 1957! To think they were already designing such lovely covers back in 1957. How did you manage to find such a lovely close-up?
ReplyDeleteThe music was awesome and very true to the book too. I'm going to add Dreamstate Logic to my playlist for favorite instrumentals/ ambient music. Thank you!
