This week is a freebie! A Thanksgiving/ thankful themed one so I'm going to go with science fiction movies I'm thankful for. That way I can dovetail SciFi Month in here as well. :)
My favorite SF movie
My favorite Star Wars movie by far. Unexpectedly dark and so many awesome moments.
A close second and the ending- with Luke facing the Emperor- is the best.
Atmosphere
One of my absolute faves
More of a dystopian than SF per se, but awesome.
Set farther in the future than a lot of SF, it explores themes of aging and environmental catastrophe.
One of the best endings ever?
Oh my gosh this WRECKED me when I saw it
The original. Honestly the whole first third when they wander the Forbidden Zone- the tension just ratchets up.
Okay, that's ten. But wait- there's more! I couldn't stop so these are the ret of my faves
I've never seen any kind of Star Wars movie or show, but given its immense popularity I suspect there's lots of stories to come in its world. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a rich world. :)
DeleteOh, we could sooo have a movie night. Empire Strikes Back is THE best. The new ones I just pretend don't exist. I have the entire collection of Gojira movies, and I want the Alfred Hitchcock collection, too. Excellent list!
ReplyDeleteYes ESB is the best!! And same here- I just ignore the newer ones. :) Wait, you have ALL the Gojira movies? I am jealous. And I love Hitchcock's stuff!
DeleteI first watched the entire original Star Wars trilogy as a kid, and maybe at that young age, Empire was a bit too dark for me, because my favorite was always Return of the Jedi and remains so to this day. Plus my younger self could hardly resist the Ewoks :)
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Empire is a little dark! And ooh you liked Ewoks? I feel like people are always bitching about 'em, but I love their treehouses and I love that movie- from the confrontations at the end to even Luke just returning to Tatooine.
DeleteOn Greg, this is brilliant. I actually have a soft spot for the older Total Recall and Flash Gordon. The retro posters are just the best!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Those movies RULE.
DeleteI'm surprised by how many of these I've seen! The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are such classics. Love those! I have great memories of going to the theater and seeing them. And Escape from New York... Snake Pliskin! And the guy who drove around with chandeliers on his car hood. LOL Flash Gordon is so cheesy it hurts but so much fun. And 30 years later and I still want my own Gizmo. :)
ReplyDeleteSnake Plissken... is the bomb! And yes seeing Empire in the theater was awesome- it felt like you were IN the snowpeeder. And oh my gosh yes the chandelier car. The music for that film, by the way, is amazing.
DeleteOh wow! Lots of new to me ones here but still some fun ones too! I like the old Alfred Hitchcock movies! The old Twilight Zone episodes are fun too!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I love old Hitchcock movies. :)
DeleteGreat list! I love Jurassic Park, it's still such a good film.
ReplyDeleteIt is!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Greg! I'm thankful for Jurassic Park as well.
ReplyDeleteMy post.
Jurassic Park, such a classic - I will always watch that if I come across it on tv.
ReplyDeleteYup. It's one of those movies that if I skim channels and it's on- I'll totally watch!
DeleteHi Greg! Yea!!!! For the first time, I can say - I've seen that movie!! Yea!! I've actually seen a few, all the Starwars movies (and yes, The Empire strikes back is my favorite as well), Planet of the Apes, The Birds, Total Recall... Yea!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good Thanksgiving Greg.
Elza is grateful for
Yea! The Birds, Total Recall... so FUN. Glad you like em too!!!
DeleteNice picks! I've seen all (most?) of the Star Wars movies, Jurassic Park, and a few of these others. There are a few I still need to get to, so thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
:)
DeleteAwesome list, Greg! I have so many fond memories of some of these movies. And Silent Running!!! So many tears...
ReplyDeleteYes. Silent Running... oh my gosh I'm afraid to watch it now.
DeleteGreat list :) The only one I've read is Jurassic Park and I loved it (and Michael Crichton's books)! Sci-fi covers are really great though -- I love all of these 😃
ReplyDeleteI reads Jurassic PArk just a few years ago...
DeleteI love Star Wars so much. Here is my post-https://paigesofbook.blogspot.com/2020/11/top-ten-tuesday-books-and-series-im.html.
ReplyDeleteYayy!!!
DeleteEx Machina was positively disturbing. Cool, but -- disturbing. A bit like "Her" in that regard, with Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johannson.
ReplyDeleteThat ending was VERY disturbing. Yikes...
DeleteI have seen many of these. Remember really loving Escape from New York, and we all know the original trio of Star Wars films were the best.
ReplyDeleteEscape is so good. Atmospheric, andyes the originals are the best.
DeletePlanet of the Apes is such a classic scifi series. I've seen all of the original films as well as the remakes!
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday.
Oh wow. I think I've only seen the first remake...
DeleteMy favourite science fiction show that I'm thankful for is The Mandalorian! It's so well-written and has some great comic relief as well.
ReplyDeleteI still need to watch that!
DeleteGreat list! I'm definitely craving a Star Wars marathon and would also love a Gremlins or Jurassic Park rewatch :)
ReplyDeleteAn original marathon would be fun, and Gremlins is a blast!
DeleteIf I ever develop a desire to watch Sci-Fi, I know right where to head now for recommendations. Great work!

Ha ah!! :)
DeleteFlash Gordon came up in conversation with my husband for some reason this week. I must have seen something on FB to prompt it. At first I said I'd never watched it then I suddenly came up with bits of the theme song. I must have seen bits at some point.
ReplyDeleteI've seen maybe half of these. Return of the Jedi was always my favorite Star Wars movie because of the Ewoks. And Ex Machina was pretty disturbing there at the end.
Great list!
Oh my gosh Flash Gordon... that soundtrack by Queen!!! "FLASH... ah ah" lol.
DeleteSo many awesome movies on this list! I love the original Star Wars trilogy, and Flash Gordon always makes me laugh, and I remember watching an edited version of Logan's Run as a kid that I've never forgotten... such a good list. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list! So many good films. I haven’t seen Flash Gordon for years but I can’t think of it now without thinking of that film Ted, he loved Flash!
ReplyDeleteSo many good ones on here! They brought back a lot of memories.
ReplyDeleteOh, fun choice! I am still not okay after the end of Ex Machina! And I saw *most* of Logan's Run but not the end (it was on somewhere and I had to go I think? Idk) and now I want to! I also saw Jurassic Park in theaters and then my brother didn't sleep for like a week hahah. And Soylent Green... well that makes me chuckle every time I see it 😂
ReplyDeleteThere are so many of these that I love including Soylent Green and Forbidden Planet! Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteI loved all of these except Ex Machina, which I have not seen yet. 👏👏👏✨
ReplyDeleteI love these! Have an amazing week!!
ReplyDeleteSo many greats! Escape from New York is my second favorite Kurt Russell and John Carpenter movie! :)
ReplyDeleteOooo Jurassic Park and Star Wars!! Such great classic movies. I didn't get into Star Wars until the new trilogy because I was a HUGE fan of Adam Driver from the show Girls. So, I kind of owe him for my love of Star Wars now! Even if the newest ones aren't the best of them!
ReplyDeleteJurassic Park <3
ReplyDeleteFun list and of course I'm nodding my head at all of the Star Wars flicks. We spent most of Thanksgiving Day rewatching the original trilogy. They just never get old.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Total Recall-that scene with Arnie trying to flee his enemies in a Johnny Cab is so funny! Yes to Jurassic Park and the Star Wars films!
ReplyDeleteI really need to see Silent Running.
ReplyDeleteSadly, the ending to Soylent Green was pretty much spoiled for me decades ago... and I've still never seen it!
