So far so good with the new Blogger. I'm not doing anything complicated so I haven't had too much trouble yet. How is everyone? I got some news this week that a friend from high school has COVID and has had it for three weeks, so hopefully she's feeling better.
Has anyone else found that they're getting their news primarily from Twitter? Honestly, every day lately the trending items are sort of filling me in on what's occurring. I know people disparage Twitter but I'm actually finding it useful to get a quick snapshot of whatever's trending, and then I can dig deeper and of course hit reputable news sites also. But yes this is a thing for me. Oh, and this. I keep hearing about QAnon and all the ridiculous theories but this may be the best thing I've seen recently on child sex trafficking. And honestly, it's a little discouraging to see sooo many people believing the fake stuff- feel free to forward this to anyone who thinks QAnon is real.
Song of the week
BOOKISH LINKS
More Tokyo stuff.
I had to share this- it'll make sense when you see the next one. That music!
And this is fabulous- not only for her reactions but for the ridiculous video!
I actually do the same with Twitter, there is more immediacy, and better balanced coverage than mainstream media.
ReplyDeleteI read Sh*tty Mom, it was fun
Wishing you a great reading week, stay well
I think so. I get immediate news and I get a snapshot of what's happening. The funny thing too is I'll go to a news site and not even SEE whatever it is being covered, but on Twitter I get all kinds of nuance or discussion. I would miss stuff otherwise!
DeleteHave a great week1!!
I agree that I use Twitter more for news as well. I can find the reputable news sources quickly and not have to wade through garbage (usually).
DeleteYes to Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you haven't faced issues with the darned New Blogger - then again, I suppose no one who uses fancy formats for their posts have. Me, on the other hand...*sighs*
ReplyDeleteI've noticed the same pattern about Twitter. Am I a horrible person if I can't sit through the regular news on TV?
LOL, I knew that "They're fucked" couldn't be a legitimate title for a book in the series (not even the modern reboots), but I had to check what it was. The cover art is top-notch!
"no one who DOESN'T USE fancy formats", I mean - of course...
DeleteNo you are NOT terrible, I never sit through news on TV anymore! Takes too long and more detail on line! And right? :):)
DeleteI like a Twitter for the local trends - I try not to spend too much time on it as it is like a rabbit hole of information.
ReplyDeleteI’m really loving those pictures, I could spend hours examining them.
Have a great week!
Very true- it's like Pinterest I can get LOST in Twitter!!!
DeleteHeh, love that Hardy Boys cover! I want to try those adult Famous Five books like Five on a Brexit Island but reviews aren't great and I don't want to risk the money!
ReplyDeleteFive on a brexit Island haha that sounds fun :)
DeleteHa ha I love the Star Trek fight and then the cat fight, lol. Where do you find this stuff??😁
ReplyDeleteI don't even know! I occasionally get sucked into Pinterest or wherever and find all kinds of stuff. :) But honestly my favorite part of the Sunday Post is sharing all this wacky stuff I find...
DeleteI do get most of my news from twitter. It’s funny because my parents will read a news article and tell me about it and I’ll say: “I heard about that hours ago on twitter!” But, you’ve got to be careful about the news you consume. Some people can spread misinformation.
ReplyDeleteI do too now! And right? I do that too, and yes you have to be careful!
DeleteHa, that Hardy Boys cover!
ReplyDeleteSadly, Twitter is where I get most of my news too. Like you, I'll dig deeper into stories, but it's exhausting. I've tried to limit the amount of time I spend on news/current events/politics, because it was really messing with my headspace.
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
I do. And yes it can be mentally taxing I have to limit news too.
DeleteSo jelly that you are not having blogger issues, I wonder if I should try another browser, hmm, one never knows.
ReplyDeleteTwitter, well I get news, but I do not "get" them. Like that demon sperm or whatever? Never did check that out
I use chrome and would be lost without it, although occasionally I have to switch if a certain site won't let me comment.
DeleteI also use Chrome and have had no issues with the new Blogger. I started using it as soon as it was available so I could get used to it.
DeleteGlad Blogger is working for you still! I hope your high school friend is recovering ok.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time keeping up with Twitter but it does seem to be a good way to keep up with news. I subscribe to a few news sites and get a run down every morning. Its not as timely - since it's the day after - but I get to keep up.
Have a great week!
I agree with Twitter! I have to like, brace myself to open the CNN app, so with Twitter it's usually accidental when I find news, but better for my mental health. ALSO. So my sister-in-law is apparently all about these QAnon absurdities, and I am 100% sending this to her because wow she's gotta be stopped. I feel like we have somehow stumbled on reverse human evolution with all this stupidity and nonsense and just... awfulness. I am so OVER the awfulness. Also that fake Hardy Boys is all of us, 2020.
ReplyDeleteI too get my news from Twitter lol. That and my grandma, since she watches the TV news. Glad you're not having Blogger problems, I know some other people are. So many of those artworks are so detailed, it's so good!
ReplyDeleteI am still editing my older post as long as I have access to the legacy blogger. The moment I write this comment, I saw that my dashboard shows me that I will have access to the "old blogger design until somewhen in September. It looks to me that google is noticing that most users are not happy with the new design. Hopefully that means that they are trying to improve the new design with some of the good things the old had.
ReplyDeleteI still watch the news on TV or check them via my tablet. Twitter is only for the blogging fun and books.
I wish your friend to get recover from Covid soon. And hope for the sake of us all that this nightmare will be over soon too... That QAnon thing. I am surprised that some believed this would be real? How stupid can someone be *shakes her head*
Yeah, I get most of my news from Twitter, but via my music account because there are less judgmental SJWs on there, ha ha... and from my high school Physics lab partner on Facebook. 😁
ReplyDeleteFunny you posted that Still of the Night reaction video because Ben Eller posted a lesson a couple of weeks ago and I've been diddling around with the solo. 🎸
That Qanon stuff is crazy. Are they the same people who started the thing about the Clintons drinking the blood of children to stay young? 😯
Have a wonderful new week, and I hope your friend is well. 🌞
I usually find most of my news on Twitter as well, when Rupert Murdoch owns most of our media in Australia, it tends to be only news that fits their narrative and we miss out on so much. In Melbourne, we're into our second hard lockdown, so trying to find things to do to fill my day now. I never thought I'd see the day where masks are mandatory now and the entire city and suburbs has a curfew. it's scary times.
ReplyDeleteI will take note of anything trending on Twitter, but in general I feel getting one's news from social media tends to be an uncomfortable idea overall. I'm always just hyper aware that everything I am seeing there is coming through a filter of the platform in question and its users, and there will always be an unavoidable bias there. I do a lot of my own research for news, so I have several go-to aggregate sites that I hit up daily to get news from a variety of sources and viewpoints. I guess getting news from Twitter makes sense for a lot of people on the go, but there's just too much misinformation on there which makes that dangerous. Just my two cents though :D
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Hi Greg! I don't use Twitter at all... Never really caught my interest. Facebook and radio, that's my news source.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get that Hardy Boys cover? I have quite a few of those older editions in the library, would be sooooo funny if one of the gets ever take out one with such a reputable title... We are a Christian School after all! LOL!! I know it's doctored, but it's done very well!
I struggle a bit with importing photos and spacing them on the new interface. Spacing is a bit of a problem overall. But I'm finding a way around it.
Once again, love your vintage cover! Hope you will have a great week, here's my The Sunday Post #7
I don't watch news at all anymore, but read from Twitter and then continue to read from trustworthy articles too. I think we have the option to know better.
ReplyDeleteI always love people who can find a clip and set it to the perfect music making it look totally intentional and maybe even changing the meaning. Great cat clip!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your friend with COVID. I hope she's okay. That Hardy Boys cover had me howling. I keep going back to it and snickering. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't really use Twitter for that part. I just see to many gossip.. so I try to focus only on the bookish news on there.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your friend with Covid. I hope she feels better soon.
Have a great week and happy reading.
Twitter is a big source of my news, yet I also have to google everything I read there to verify it as so much news is passed off as genuine when it really isn’t. I should probably watch more actual news instead and spend less time on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI actually posted my first post 100% using new Blogger today. I usually draft and format my posts on my laptop and then import to blogger but I couldn’t be bothered to get my laptop today and it wasn’t terrible. There are some things I don’t like about new blogger but I do like I can now draft on my laptop and not have a load of formatting issues.
Glad the new Blogger hasn't created too many problems for you so far. It certainly hasn't affected the quality of your post - those pics this week are OUTSTANDING - thank you so much! And the article about sex trafficking children is excellent... Have a great week, Greg:)
ReplyDeleteI am the same with Twitter, I tend to read all of options and then either look it up after or dive deeper in the threads. After a while you can tell the fake stuff from the real stuff.
ReplyDeleteI am glad blogger is still working for you. I am not sure why both WP and Blogger thought they need to change the interface to something more complicated. Some bloggers just want easy with no hassle.
Love the pictures this week!
Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!
I only tweet links to my blog posts...and mostly scroll through FB, but there are so many news items that are annoying...I'm getting good at scrolling.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week and your books. I remember loving The Hardy Boys...and there were even movies based on the books that showed up on The Mickey Mouse Club...lol. From WAY back in the day.
Absolutely beautiful images! I could get lost in those for hours!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently avoiding news as much as possible, or at least giving myself news breaks, to avoid the inevitable despair that comes along with it! Perhaps I'm hiding away from the real world but bad news always seems so acute when you're spending long days alone in lockdown!
Have a great week, Greg! :D
I just ignore the news I see on twitter since its lacking truth and fact and is either extreme left or right. So I stick with local news or newspapers like "epoch times" who stick with the facts and I can determine where I lean on my view of it. So hard really finding the actual truth though.
ReplyDeleteI hate news on social media because people share anything and everything with NO thought into the accuracy or believability of the source. Its so frustrating I have spent significantly less time on social media (except IG)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're doing well and that the new Blogger interface seems to be working for you. Gives me hope for when they switch my blog over. :)
ReplyDeleteI usually just go directly to news sites on my phone or watch a bit on TV while making dinner. Usually because my husband turns it on. I'm hardly ever on Twitter. The whole Wayfair thing was something I wondered about because it was so out there. One of the Instragram fashion bloggers I had followed said she was starting to believe it because of the sheer amount of stories on it. Not really a great way to establish something as the truth, IMO.
ReplyDeleteStill, haven't switched to the new Blogger, but I guess I should soon. *grumbles*
Hope your high school friend gets well soon!
I hope your friend will be alright Greg! And as far as Twitter is concerned, I avoid that social media like the plague!
ReplyDeleteI tend to use Twitter in the same way as you. I see what is trending and then find news sources and go deeper from there to find out what is going on Facebook is absolute trash for news and I am so glad trends is not a thing there anymore. It's like critical thought has completely gone out the window and people just share whatever.
ReplyDeleteI do scroll through Twitter every day and get news from there, but it's so discouraging when I see people posting nasty stuff. Everyone has an opinion on everything, even the littlest thing.
ReplyDeleteI hope your friend is feeling better. Have a great week and stay safe.
I'm on Twitter more than anywhere else so that is where I get most of my news from.
ReplyDeleteGreg, I am pleased to hear you have found the transition to the new Blogger interface okay 👌 and that you're enjoying getting your news from Twitter. I'm afraid I avoid all news now, except the little I hear on the radio, because sadly their is too much fear-mongering, bias and unhelpful criticism. Take care and happy reading in the coming week. 😃
ReplyDeleteI have such mixed feelings about Twitter. I do have friends that I only connect with on there. The people on Twitter are by far the funniest around. But it can also make me anxious and provide bad rabbit holes I fall into. Like today.
ReplyDeleteTwitter is full of fake news. I tend to ignore 95% of the feeds. If it wasn't for my blog, I wouldn't even have an account. There are way too many bullies, trolls, and crazy politicians on there.
ReplyDeleteI like the catfight video. The Calico looks like my cat Gaby, who died last month.
I am rarely on twitter...lol. I really tend to stay away from new of any kind. The media really is a mix bag of crap and depending on your political views you can get what you want out of what you watch. I can watch CNN and OAN and come up with two different views on the world at hand, so I tend not to really believe anything they say. Rant done. :)
ReplyDelete#is2020overyet
Glad the new blogger isn't giving you any fits!! Great artworks pics as always!
Have a great week and happy reading!

Week in Review
Kitaro - nice tunes! That Hardy Boys title sums it all up - lol
ReplyDeleteI pretty much do the same thing on twitter. I'll check the trending topics to see what's going on but then branch out to actual news sites from there.
ReplyDeleteThat Hardy Boys cover has me just nonstop LOL-ing!
I was on Twitter a lot before my blogging break started in 2016. Now that I'm back, I've tried getting back on Twitter but I always feel like I'm walking in on the middle of 3000 conversations and I can't find the thread of any of them. I tend to get my news from real news sources (local news stations and newspapers and NPR, etc) on FB. Whatever it takes to keep us informed of the real news, right? Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I don't go on Twitter much but rather pick up news on FB. Or the radio or TV. But if I want something really fast I go to Twitter. It is scary to think of all the false stuff out there in the universe that people believe.
ReplyDeleteI have moved away from Twitter over the years. I feel as though I am standing on the outside looking in over there these days.
ReplyDeleteI have played with the new blogger a bit but basically I am sticking with the old one as long as possible because I couldn't figure out scheduling posts and tags. I guess I will have to change at some point.
I hope your friend is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteTwitter - I tend to stay away from. I love Instagram though. I get my news these days from The Bridge, an online Michigan publication that is non-partisan and non-profit, and various other sources that I hope are reputable. Lol.
I hope all is well on your side of the state!
I do get updates from Twitter, but I don't really go on it too much. Same with Facebook. I'm probably on Instagram more these days.
ReplyDeleteI hope your friend is feeling better!!!

I hope your HS friend recovers soon! My little cousin just tested positive on Saturday and it's so stressful.
ReplyDeleteI use Twitter to get snapshots too. If I can't find a trust worthy source, I just google the information I found.
I sure hope your friend is doing much better these days. That has to be a scary situation. I'm not on Twitter as much as I probably should be(lol), but like you, I do get little snippets of what may be trending, particularly with pop culture, but I still go to CNN and local news for the in depth stuff just as you do. It's interesting to see what's going on, but there also seems like there's a lot of it too. Sending lots of hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteGreat photos this week, Greg. Praying your high school friend recovers soon.
ReplyDeleteI tend to use my news apps for news. Conversations on Facebook and Twitter have become so political and hateful they aren't as fun as they used to be.
Love your book selections this week. I have the fourth book of The Hardy Boys here. Your title is much more fun.
Hope you have a nice week. Thanks for visiting my blog.
I don't read the news, but the Hubby does and tells me all about it. Love the pictures! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGreat art this week! QAnon is a joke played on dumb people. I feel sorry for them that they believe that BS. And I'm never on twitter. I subscribe to the Washington Post and I see a lot of news on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's the people I follow on Twitter, but it becomes a place for depression for me, so I try to avoid it. I'm glad it works well for you!!
ReplyDeleteThe artwork is absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing!
Blogger always makes me comment as anon, so I apologize for that!
- Lori @ https://www.food4thought.online
I don't spend much time on Twitter. I used TweetDeck to gather the tweets I'm interested in reading. I mainly follow authors and publishers and the British Royal Family. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThose covers are funny lol
ReplyDeleteI kind of hated trends at first but now I use them like you do. it's a snapshot and I can dig deeper for the things I want to. I try to stay away from deep dives on there though. They can be super informative but also drain your soul between the hate and just the non stop barrage of things wrong int he world. I'm a big fan of the mute button lol
Karen @ For What It's Worth
I'm careful what news I listen to or read these days. So much negativity out there. So that Hardy Boys Title...that can't real!
ReplyDeleteIt's weird, but I do feel like I'm getting my news from Twitter these days.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much avoid all news everywhere these days! I’ve been trying to remember to check Twitter more and Facebook less in general, though. That Hardy Boys cover made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteI've always quite like twitter for the speed at which it delivers the news - so long as you can filter out all the controversy in between :D Those book titles - I can't believe the Hardy Boys title.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
The QAnon stuff is just insane. I'm trying to keep myself of falling down a rabbit hole of research about it because I know that won't be great for mental health but if they're tied to anything it's going to be nonsense! I have heard that super expensive products on Amazon are used for money laundering and I could see that working but I'm not researching it! I absolutely adore that the Hardy Boys cover! Hope you're having a great week.
