So everyone likes a little romance, right? Love makes the world go around- or at least makes it worth living. Even comics get in the game sometimes- love truly supersedes all genres. In that spirit I thought I'd share some lovely comics that celebrate, well, love, in all its forms. I have to be honest, though, some of these are a little on the vintage side? The only thing better than comics about love are... odd comics about love? Or slightly humorous anyway.
Let me know in the comments which ones you like!
I haven't read any of these, but man, if the graphics bring a flood of memories! I love reading romances, so I think I would have probably enjoyed these.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, these covers! I didn't realise this was an actual genre -- they just crack me up!
ReplyDeleteAdore the old timey covers for all of these! There really are just brilliant and you can't beat the theme. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the one under water and the one with snow. I read Vampironica (and still need to review it soon) last month. It was pretty good but not as good as I wanted.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! These covers are gorgeous! I am a huge romance fan and I am sure that I would have picked up one of these. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are so vintage and dramatic!! Lol. I love themπ
ReplyDeletePeter once again this reminds me when I visited my grand mother and found such comics in my aunt old bedroom! I was a young teenager and loved reading them!
ReplyDeleteI love these. Especially One Kiss Before Dying, lol.
ReplyDeleteLove these! And I have to laugh at the Hi School Romance one because the guy and girl look like 30 year olds. LOL
ReplyDeleteThese are all great. The Doormat of Love really made me laugh. And I loved the one with the shark headed towards the kissing couple. Great post! :)
ReplyDeleteOh man. Where in the world did you dig up these covers? They're so retro!
ReplyDeleteThese are all great. I especially love the bottom of the first one 'Be sure to read 'GIVE ME BACK MY RING!'" LOL!
ReplyDeleteOkay, yep, I would totally read those just for kicks. Great finds, Greg!
ReplyDeleteHilarious!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, so dramatic, angsty and hilarious! With that said, as a teenager I probably would've gobbled all these up. Especially Vampironica. Maybe not One Kiss Before Dying, as I was never into a tragic ending. Great collection, Greg! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this topic! I love vintage and it's fun reading the taglines and outdated slang! I love the humor that many of these comics have! Thanks for sharing Greg!

*puts hand up* Exception to the rule here! I could happily do without romance in any book I read or film I watch! *grins* In younger days I was addicted to romance magazines like My Guy and teen romance books but now I can't seem to be bothered with any of it! Funny how reading tastes change!
ReplyDeleteEven though most of the comics I collected as a kid were the Archie's, I actually have a few of these in storage, so I'm probably dating myself.(lol) These comics are what got me started with reading romance novels as a teen. Great memories, Gorgeous Greg! RO
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love those vintage looking comics!

One Kiss Before Dying has a crazy cover. Kissing under water is hard enough without a shark about you bite your head off. lol
ReplyDeleteAre these real? I love them. I feel kind of sorry for poor Trina...nobody wants to be called a doormat.
ReplyDeletePOOR TRINA :((( Oh.. Letters of Hearbreak sound interesting. I looveee these vintage comics. The art style is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteromantic story and vampironica...just looking at the covers hooked me. covers sway me so easily. lol

LOl, oh these are just so *shakes head* I like the shark one
ReplyDeleteI love some of these covers - I seriously don't know how you find them all. And, a little romance every now and again really doesn't hurt. Although i am probably the least romantic person in the world as my other half will be only too happy to confirm.

Sci-fi month sounds fun Greg! Yeah, the Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon started today. I'm participating, but only added to books to my TBR list, because I have a lot going on, but if I end up having more time, I'll add more to my TBR. You only have to read one book for the challenge, so thAt helps :) Your poor trash guy sounds like he had a rough day. Hopefully things got better for him :)

Some? A lot of these of are vintage looking but they are so cool. I am so invested in the one where the woman wrote letters to the other woman for someone else. I would read that weird love triangle book.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read a comic in ages. Way back in grade school when I loved Archie. But these were fun to read! It's interesting to think that some of these plots have been around for so long. Especially the 'someone else writing letters to the love interest' stories. It feels so recent.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. These were so interesting to read!
"You're a groovy girl" "Not a doormat" They just don't write comics like that anymore ππ There is nothing like 1970s romance covers π
ReplyDeleteDamn, these are hilarious! I came here expecting some Alex + Ada and I leave with a newfound knowledge of some really uhh interesting vintage comics hahah. The first one sort of uhhh spoils the next one though, eh? (Or the previous one? I have no idea what is happening here π) And tbh, a lot of these seem to feature some truly broken hearts! I must ask- how on earth did you FIND these!? Actually you know what, maybe I am too scared to know the answer π
