This week is a Top Ten Books That I Refuse To Let Anyone Touch. Well... I'm doing five that are hands off and then five that I push at people any chance I get! For balance, you know.
The Robe - only because it's in rough shape. The binding is broken and the dust jacket is gone (which is a shame b/c it's quite nice)- this book is a hand me down so it has sentimental value.
I have, like, three copies of this, but the cover pictured above is my favorite and I probably wouldn't borrow it out. :) But I do have two others, so I could still push it at someone, while keeping my "precious" copy just for me!
I have two versions of this, as well, but this one- the hardcover w/ the white cover- I wouldn't part with. I have the paperback (also a cool cover) to push on people. :)
A copy of the Robin Hood illustrated Children's Classic- I bought it on vacation in an Americana store in Traverse City, MI a few years ago. Fabulous illustrations, but again, the spine is broken and it's fragile, so it's mainly on a shelf for displaying but not in shape to be lent out.
Okay- these books I push any chance I get!
A great thriller set on a yacht in the South Pacific.
A magical forest, lotsa cats and fabulous artwork.
A love story told in letters, set in WWI and II.
Thunderbolts Ultimate Collection - one of my fave graphic novel collections. A grittier, violent but hilarious Marvel story from the bad guys' POV.
My favorite comic right now.

I don't know if I have any off-limit books, the closest would probably be signed copies!

I don't "have" to lend books out much because there aren't many (if any) people I know that are avid readers. My mom and I both read, but that's about it. Fortunately I don't have to think about what or who I lend books to, but so long as I'd get them back, I think I'd always be glad to lend them out. :)

ReplyDeleteI've often thought it was silly to have multiple copies of the same book... until recently. There are some books that I didn't want to lend out my only copy of (even to my family who live in my house), foreign language editions (I read them) and books with special content. So now I'm like you, with multiple copies of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteNice! What's funny about me is that I will rarely ever let people borrow my books these days. I'm more likely to buy them what they "want to borrow" just so I can keep my copy safe and sound!

Great choices! I do not usually just lend a book I just give it away. I do not have a physical library and now love my digital library-lol I even borrow from the public library via cwmars/libby :)

I have a lot on my "keeper" shelf that I won't let anyone borrow.
ReplyDeleteI always thought that having a "precious" copy of a book was something less common considering how people looked at me after I explained why they would never walk a certain book out of my house if I were still alive. Awesome list :)

ReplyDeleteI don't think I have any books that I wouldn't let people touch. People borrow the books I have all the time. I do make sure that they give it back within 3 weeks though. Love the cover for Vitro!!

ReplyDeleteI have a few annotated books by the author that I would never let anyone borrow. I could never get them again.
ReplyDeleteI usually only let blogger friends borrow my books because they get how important they are and if they lost a book they would buy it again for me.

ReplyDeleteI don't collect books, but I think it's nice to look at all the different editions together. And I love that you have a well worn book with good memories attached to it.

ReplyDeleteBooks with sentimental value are the best. I like having extras of some of my favorites that I can end out to others also, it's the best of both worlds! I bet that Robin Hood illustrated copy is great!

ReplyDeleteI think the closest books I would never let anyone touch (aside from trusted folks) are my favorites, well-worn books (though if it's too bad, I usually have to toss those out unfortunately), and copies that are signed (I don't have multiple copies of books so they're all precious). Anything that I didn't like, well... I'll let anyone touch, LOL.
ReplyDeleteAwesome list! I also have several copies of the same books, either because I get them as gifts of because I really love the book, and it's a great way of saving an intact copy but also letting other people enjoy the story. :)

I have multiple copies of Pride and Prejudice, a few that noone is allowed to touch and others I pawn off at every chance (those ones I can easily replace if I don't get them back 😂😂 ) Robin Hood illustrated Children's Classic sounds amazing, does it have great pictures?

ReplyDeleteMy favorite books and sentimental books are hands off too! I like how you balanced out the post with hands-off books, as well as books you push on people any chance you get. I met Jessica Khoury at a book event, and she was really cool! I haven't read Vitro though. The love story told in love letters during WWI and WWII sounds like it would be a great book to read!
