Sunday Post #299

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

We live in a post Game of Thrones world now at least as far as the show is concerned. And I'm glad to have seen an ending, because who knows what's happening with the books? The question now is- how close is this ending to what George has planned? And as I mentioned last week- there are sample chapters out there from The Winds of Winter- quite a few actually. Here are my thoughts on one.

So... the Bookish Games are in full swing. The last few minutes of each Game Day are notorious for being tense as someone is getting voted out. True to form, this past week was crazy. Last Sunday we had the end of Day One, and one of the best finishes ever.

The other thing about the Games is...anxiety. Yes, these Games can be nerve-wracking. Several people during the end of Day One mentioned anxiety! Why do we do this to ourselves? It's like the challenge is both exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time? At any rate, if you want to follow the chaos you can check out the Bookish Games on Twitter. This tweet chain about sums up last Sunday's elimination.

Also this week I posted Movies That Suck: One Million Years BC and also another Song Lyrics post. This week will be Tales from Northern Michigan on Monday (Song Lyrics #3 will be back on June 3) and maybe even a review!

So here's the latest in my now weekly(?) sharing of Let's Play - Sea of Thieves. Seriously- as background stuff goes, you can do worse. :) Oh, and one of the commenters mentioned that they think in Pirate speak after watching these. Um, no comment.

  1. I'm so sorry that so many people were disappointed with the GoT's ending. I only watched it sporadically but ti's tough investing that much time only to not love how it ends.

  2. Count me in as one of the disappointed for the GoT finale too, but at the end of the day, it's probably the only ending I'll get for these characters (at least for a while) so I'll take it. If GRRM ever finishes it, and that's a BIG if, I have a feeling he would have something much different planned. I imagine he would have a bigger role for Tyrion, and he probably wouldn't have wasted Jon like that. How it ended for Bran kind of made since for me though, I mean, I guess there had to be more to him if the Night King wanted him so badly. Maybe this is what he was fated for all along.

  3. The one good thing is that there will be Game of Thrones prequels to look forward to! I'm hoping for Aegon The Conqueror and The Long Night for starters! I would LOVE to see Robert's Rebellion in full and Balon Greyjoy's uprising but I doubt we'll see that. Would also love a Beyond The Wall sequel...

I agree with Mogsy that Jon and Tyrion must have bigger roles in the books to come. I just want The Winds of Winter in my hands NOW!

  4. I confess that I haven't watched 1 episode of GOT so it's impressive to see everyone talking everywhere about it.

  5. It will be interesting to find out where the GoT books go. I hope that the Bookish Games doesn't give you too much anxiety, although it does sound fun! Have a great weekend! :)

  6. I still have feelings after the GoT finale. Not what I expected for sure but not wholly unsatisfying, either, I guess. But at the end the husband and I just sat there and said, "Huh. That was it. Okay." Went out with a whimper instead of a bang.

  7. Have you read Marting's blog post on his book ending and the tv ending? He is so frustrating!!!! I am fine with the finale because at least it is done for now. I will still read the books because I love how much more Martin fleshes out his characters. Have a great week.

  8. The world is in an uproar about GoT, that's for sure! I'm still on season 4, and it's been impossible to avoid spoilers. Oh well.

  10. I am familiar with Sina! She has done a couple of collabs with another YouTuber I follow, Rob Lundgren, who I found through 331 Erock. She is amazing, and Deep Purple...good stuff! She needs to do a collab with Erock. 👍✨

Have a wonderful new week! 🌞

  11. We were just speculating the other day about what after- GOT for the TV adaption would mean for the books still coming. Weird that its over, but now the books have the focus all to themselves again.

You Owe Me a Murder sounds good.

    Have a good week, Greg!

  12. Since I am not entrenched in the GoT world, I didn't put it together that the show ended before the book series. Very interesting.

  13. I completely agree with you about GoT. Even though I didn't love it, I'm glad to have some kind of closure on the series just in case we never get that next book. The Bookish Games sounds like it's a wild ride. Glad you're having fun with it. :)

  14. I'll probably never read the books so I will at least look forward to the prequel GOT show that is supposed to be coming. Nice pics this week. Love those tentacles!

  18. For some odd reason I found the ending to be peaceful.

  19. We're paused at the end of GoT season six at the moment so I'm hoping to get caught up with the rest of the world eventually. I doubt I'll ever read the books though so won't be able to compare

  20. I never watched GoT, but I know a lot were disappointed with the ending but they I guess that is what happens when you make a show about a series that isn't finished (and I wonder if it ever will be). I am sure the books are a lot different.

Have fun with your bookish games, just reading about them gives me anxiety...lol.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  21. I didn't mind GoT ending... How we got there felt horribly rushed but the fates of the characters? That I didn't mind...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why do we do this to ourselves Greg???? Well that's an excellent question LOL I think because we are motivated and passionate about something this is the other side of the coin. Now about GOT, my daughter is still digesting it LOL Have a wonderful week (with more songs on Monday?)

  23. And that is what I have been meaning to ask very week. Why do you guys do this to yourselves? All that pressure would have me dying a million deaths every week.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

  24. I definitely think that the characters' endings are close to what the books will be, simply because the showrunners said they were given the endings from GRRM. I do think he'll do a better job of getting there IF he ever gets around to it. Enjoy your new reads! They All Fall Down looks really interesting!

  25. I'm honestly thinking of reading the last GoT book when it comes out and see if it's better. Enjoy your bookish games!

  26. Best of luck with the bookish games. As regards the GoT final series - I overall thought it worked well, but would have been happier with a couple more episodes as I felt some of the plot progressions happened rather too fast. Have a great week, Greg:)

  27. I'm disappointed in Game of Thrones, especially because everything was so rushed and sudden. I do hope we'll eventually get the books after all.

  28. I'm one of those strange peeps who's not watched GoT passed season 1. I find it strange that they've ended the series when the author is still writing. I wonder if he's as angry and disappointed as the fans or if he's rubbing his hands together knowing his final book will be better.

I hope you have a great (anxious-free) week of reading. x

  29. I keep hearing a lot of disappointment over the ending of GoT. It's weird they finished it when the books aren't finished. I wonder if the author will write a different ending? Good luck in your Bookish Games! :)

  30. He gave a vague answer about the ending of the books and how they would end versus the show
I hope they won't end in the similar style. I mean the Dani thing I could see happening but maybe not as quickly but who came out on top i was like
    blah...

I want to read The All Fall Down looks so good.

  34. Ah sounds like those games are anxiety producing, not sure I could hack it but I hope you are doing well and still "alive"!

  35. I feel like we're never going to see that last GoT book. GRRM must have moved onto something else by now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Good luck with the Bookish games. i have not watched GoT but must admit some tweets and convos I have seen have been hilarious. I will watch when it streams on Netflix or Prime.

  37. Ooh, that was a great drum cover - I'm going to have to subscribe to her!

  38. Bookish Games IS stressful. It's also exhausting. I find myself thinking of comments to leave when I am supposed to be sleeping, then forgetting them by morning. Your question of "why" is a good one. Masochists, the lot of us. Also I thought that lady on the pulp cover was doing something very different than she is doing so wow I guess my mind is in the gutter. But she did kill a dude I assume, so maybe I am not that far off.

  39. First time hearing Velvet Revolver - Slither. I like it and really would love to go party underground. Wow that girls is kicking butt on the drums.

  45. That guy on the cover of Death of a Ladies Man looks like a mix of Rock Hudson and Clark Gable. I have a blogger friend who is such a die hard GOT person. I sent her every magazine I had which covered the show(lol) I have no idea what she will do now that it's all over. Hugs...RO
