Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.
This week is Top Ten Things That Make Me Pick Up A Book. Oh boyoboyoboyoboy... fun! There are sooo many things! So I'm gonna list 'em and include a recent book (or soon to be released) that embodies that very thing.
1) CLONING
I want ALL the cloning.
I want ALL the cloning.
Preferably with secret societies and/ or dark secrets
3) DYSTOPIANS/ END OF THE WORLD
Post apoc!!!
4) ROBOTS/ ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
5) TIME TRAVEL
6) ALTERNATE/ PARALLEL DIMENSIONS
7) KILLER GRAPHIC NOVEL STORY/ ART
8) LOST WORLDS
9) YA WITH A GREAT TWIST
SPACE OPERA
11) OFF THE GRID
12) DINOSAURS
This can overlap with lost worlds, honestly, but not always!
I really like the idea of boarding school stories but don't think I read them much or have read many. Maybe in 2019 I'll remedy this! Happy Top Ten Tuesday. :)
ReplyDeleteI keep reading boarding schools and you'd think I'd be sick of them by now!
DeleteYes to pretty much everything on here. I recently bought Extinction because I saw it on your blog and I was like, ummm how did I not know about this? It obviously need to be in my life!
ReplyDeletewww.tbrandbeyond.com
Oh I hope you like Extinction Trials. I love that series!!!
DeleteI really enjoyed your list Greg. I can see why you love these things in a book. My TTT
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissi!
DeleteBoarding schools are the best. And time travel and dinosaurs are definitely awesome. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI agree- something about those schools :)
DeleteMany of these are buzz words in the blurb that would make me pick up a book too, especially Off the Grid (and in cold climes) as well as boarding schools. Time travel would make me take a second look too, though they can be hit or miss.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
*nods* certain words do get my attention in a blurb! Off the gridis something I'm really liking lately...
DeleteOh yes lost worlds. That is a great one! I just haven't read that many good ones ._. And cloning is such an interesting topic to explore.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find a really good lost world type of story, I think?
DeleteNice list! Funny, but I just recently snagged a copy of Dark Matter at a Little Free Library. I've yet to read it.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to my TTT post: https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2019/04/top-ten-tuesday-things-that-make-me.html
Oh Dark Matter was amazing!
DeleteNice list, I do love a good space opera.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten Tuesday.
I do too, and it takes me a while to find some!
DeleteGreat list. I love a boarding school setting too.
ReplyDeleteI can just keep reading those and reading 'em...
DeleteI love everything on this list, but I will say, except for dystopias. I find them so hard to get into these days.
ReplyDeleteDystopias can be so hit or miss!
DeleteGreat list! Considering I was obsessed with dinosaurs when I was younger, I need to read more dinosaur books. I love a boarding school setting, too - it's always fun to see what kids will get up to when their parents aren't around.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't read a dinosaur book in AGES, but extinction Trials has me excited about them all again!
DeleteOoh great topic picks!! These all sound like fun ones! I read within these areas myself and a few are even on my TBR pile!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Happy Tuesday!!
DeleteOoh I do love a good plot twist! I also like boarding school books & a good dystopia though I started to find them all a bit samey, so I haven't read much of that genre in a while.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2019/04/02/top-ten-tuesday-205/
Plot twists are the best. And a good boarding school WITH plot twists is one of my favorite reads!
DeleteSPACE OPERA!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes!!!! All of the space opera !!!!
DeleteThere are so many graphic novels I've been tempted to pick up just because the art style is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteSame! Even some in other languages- I actually bought a French comic on ComiXology the other day and even though I couldn't read it, I could suss out most of it- and the art!
DeleteOMG I adore parallel universes and time travel! They're two of my favourite things. If you've got any good recommendations then I would love some :)
ReplyDeleteParallel universes are the BEST! My top recommendation (off the top of my head) is Dark Matter- that story was a TRIP!
DeleteTime travel ad parallel universes for sure and love YA with a twist!
ReplyDeleteYes, all 3 of those!!!
DeleteSome great reasons here. I am curious about dinosaur books and cloning makes me realize how much I miss Orphan Black. So it finally dawned on me that the girl from The Farm in Riverdale was on Orphan Black for several years the other night.
ReplyDeleteAll great reasons to pick up a book for sure! I think more than anything now, I just want something fun and unique as well!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I like time travel too! I didn't do TTT this week. I couldn't think of anything. I am not as creative as you :)
ReplyDeleteNice list! I like the idea of lost worlds and/or dinosaurs as well. I also enjoy a good YA book. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday
ReplyDeleteDystopian and robots, yes to both of those! I literally never get tired of either one😁
ReplyDeleteDinosaurs were on my list, too. It's so cool to see how various authors imagine them.
ReplyDeleteMy <a href="http://www.lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-things-that-make-me-pick-up-a-book/>Top Ten Tuesday</a> post.
Dang it, I see more books to add to my TBR...
ReplyDeleteAlternate/parallel universes is my number one favourite thing in the book world! Especially if there are philosophical questions thrown in there.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my list is a little differen this week: https://dinaratengri.com/
ah some great topics!
ReplyDeleteI liked your take on the question. I nodded my head to almost all your choices.
ReplyDeleteTotally with you on boarding schools and end-of-the-world novels. And I'm always drawn to dinosaur books and Lost World stories, too. Great list!
ReplyDeleteYou picked some great topics. I love cloning especially in movies. Mine would be vampires, shifters and romance. lol
ReplyDeleteParallel dimensions is only something I've explored in shows. I need to hunt down some novels that deal with the concept. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI love dystopian and off-the-grid books, too! The Rockton series is a great example of the latter. It's one of my favorites in the genre.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
I used to be a sucker for boarding schools but not so much anymore. Time travel, though, I always say I won't read another and then I see a really good stroyline and I'm like 'fine, twist my arm why don't you'.
ReplyDeleteBoarding school Greg? really? is there some nostalgia ...or envy? LOL Sophie @bewareofthereader
ReplyDeleteI like Time Travel and Dystopians too. Have you ever read Timeline by Michael Crichton? I loved that book. Maybe it's due for a reread, because I've thought about it a couple of times in the last year.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if my love for boarding schools started with The Facts of Life? I love the setting for books, TV, and movies.
ReplyDeleteSome of these appeal to me too, but not across the board. I mean, I love the boarding-school aspect of the Harry Potter books, but it doesn't appeal to me much in contemporary YA (not that I read much contemporary YA anyway!) Maybe that's because I was a day student at a boarding school, and grew up on its campus?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, time travel is another that appeals to me. And occasionally space opera.
Fun list!
YES to end-of-the-world stories - love them in books and movies! Time travel is also something I love.
ReplyDeleteI like ALL THESE THINGS. And I think I have decided that when I get paid this week I am finally just going to suck it up and treat myself to the damn After the Lights Go Out. Did you start it? BUt whatever I love all the other ones I have read on your list, which of course is most of them!
ReplyDeleteYou picked some of my favorites here. I love books with time travel and stories that take place off the grid are great. Wonderful list, Greg!
ReplyDeleteDinosaurs! I never really got over my dinosaur phase...
ReplyDeleteI love how you did this and what kinds of stories make you pick it up! I didn't think of it that way!
ReplyDeleteI really want to know how I'm missing out on the whole dinosaur reading thing. I need to get on that ! lol
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
It's so funny - we have zero overlapping interests! In fact I go out of my way to avoid time travel and cloning. It just hurts my head! I do want to read more graphic novels. I love all the art I see and there's a few I've seen around that I really want to try.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Lots of great reads listed here too.
ReplyDeleteTime travel is one that I usually enjoy. Parallel dimensions always sound interesting but I always assume that I'm going to find them too confusing. LOL
ReplyDeleteTime travel made my list this week too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYes to cloning and to apocalypse stories.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
I want to read almost all of these. Yes to cloning and YA's with a Twist! =)
ReplyDeleteMary
Yes to lost worlds and dinosaurs! You might enjoy the Primordia trilogy!
ReplyDeleteSpace Operas and AIs for the win! Thanks for sharing your list. 👍✨
ReplyDeleteAwesome picks! Many of these topics are why I pick up books as well!
ReplyDeleteCloning, AI, time travel and robots are all things which intrigue me as well. Can you tell I love a good sci-fi book? :D I love your choices and that you featured books for them as well.
