Golden City Vol. 2

Golden City Vol. 2 was even more amazing than the first one. This is a series I'm so glad I found. Banks continues the search for his wife, who was abducted after her plane was shot down by unknown parties. Her body was recovered by salvage kids who in turn sold her to some organ traffickers. Nice, huh? 

The action is frenetic in this one- I mean this is like a cyberpunk water world on steroids. The art is stellar and this world comes to life with bright colors and amazing underwater scenes, jet ski chases through a canal city, twists and turns that left me open mouthed on occasion- and most important left me wanting more. This not only has a super interesting dystopia with the floating platforms and ocean vistas, but there's also an insidious plot going on in Golden City, where a shady geneticist is trying to replace Banks with... another Banks? 

Cloning, jet ski mayhem, neon everywhere- if that sounds good you can't go wrong with this. Plus I love a story where characters do things that shock me! That happens a few times as well. If I have any complaints it's that the salvage kids (other than Mifa) don't show up much, but I'm sure their roles will expand as it goes. Mifa herself is not endearing herself to me with some of her decisions, but maybe it's realistic- I mean she is an embittered orphan kid with nothing in a harsh and unforgiving world. It makes sense she's hard edged. 

The art- I can't stress enough how much I'm loving the art. Trains that run under bridges, an Asian influenced canal city, little touches- like when a tech fixer's monkey companion finishes the cigarette he started, and messes around with weapons and stuff laying around- it's these little touches that make this world so compelling, and makes it feel lived in. I'm anxious to delve into Vol. 3!
