Superhero Costume Fails

Related image

Superhero Costume Fails is a celebration of all that's wrong with spandex and superheroing. I mean we all know how ridiculous some costumes can be, but it occurred to me that some are just way worse than others. And we won't even get into how some artists, um, amplify the physical form. Well, actually we might get into that a bit! Anyway here are the worst I could find.

I mean I like Widow's black costume but, you know, she's popping out of that thing. And it's snowing.

Yes... there really was a Torpedo.

Cover for The Avengers (Marvel, 1963 series) #195 [Direct Edition]

The Wasp changed costumes fairly often- what does everyone think of this one?

Here's another look.
Avengers (1963-1996) #196
Avengers (1963-1996) #171

I mean the swimsuit and tights thing? I don't know, that has to go. Thank goodness they changed her look for the movies.

Uncanny X-Men (1963-2011) #274

Oh, Rogue. This was her Savage Land look.

There does seem to be some popularity for this look though? Shocking I know. This is NOT a real cover but someone's fan version. There's a fair amount of cosplay for this as well.

  1. When you're a superhero and your sex appeal is more important than being comfortable. And, that elf with a gun just slayed me.

  2. I legitimately don't see how some of these costumes would even stay on these women. It's just not physically possible without magic or some seriously good tape lol. I like that the one has roller skates though, haha.

  3. At least it seems like there is some equal opportunity sexualization up there, though, the female heroes are always more scantily clad.

  4. What a fun topic! I'm going to have to give a big NO to Hercules, who I don't think I would have even recognized on the street.(lol) Black Widow/CatWoman. Need I say more?(lol) Hugs and Happy Monday Gorgeous Greg! RO

    1. Yeah Hercules is NOT impressing me with that hideous costume. Although they're all bad. :) And you too Ravishing Ro!!

  5. There definitely seems to be a theme with the women's costumes, poor girls! No one wants to try and wear those outfits and move around at the same time!

  7. I love Torpedo's pointy party hat look, but I'm not sure about Dazzler's John Travolta moment.

  9. OMG, the women's costumes are so impractical! At least let me believe they could fight the bad guy in those get-ups.

  10. This post is hilarious. All the female costumes are so impractical. Their boobs would be falling out in a fight, maybe that is the point, boob falls out, villain is distracted fight over....

    1. Maybe? Sounds like a comic book strategy almost. :) And I know, it's so ridiculous...

  11. Women superheroes always seem woefully underdressed to me. Do you think it's because they're mostly drawn by men? ;D

  12. These crack me up because no one would be able to fight or defend anyone in these getups! I know you don't know much about Friends, but for the other people in the comments section, these costumes remind me of Ross with the leather pants- and I assume that is about as well as anyone could reasonably move in them anyway. Plus, can you just imagine, these women especially would have to stop every 10 seconds just to readjust themselves. And the CHAFING of the poor woman with the one bare leg, one whatever costume material... oh sweetie, we'll get you some kind of salve.

  13. I tend to avoid covers with half naked men and woman on the covers. I take that cover as a book with sex and romance and avoid it like the plague!

  14. It isn't a superhero comic if you're not willing to flash someone in the middle of a fight to get the upper hand LOL

  15. yeah... the top one is why I could NEVER wear spandex.... I feel her pain being so busty LOL

And what do you mean, you can't fight off bad guys in a LOIN CLOTH!?

  16. I always wonder how some heroines stayed covered when saving the world witg some of their flimsy almost inexistente outfits lol

  17. I'm so glad they changed Scarlet Witch's look for the movies. :)
