Hello everyone. I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Christmas. I know I did and it was low key this year, which I kinda liked. I have good news (at least I think it's good news)- the Bookish Games are back! Yup- there's a new edition going live in January and sign ups are on Jan. 1st. This one's a little different as it's a Bring Your Own Character edition.

He's not wrong. :) And yes I've used this GIF before but it just seems so appropriate for the Games. In other news Vintage SciFi Month is a go in January as well - Little Red Reviewer is co- hosting and all the stuff can be found here. #VintageSciFiMonth & @VintageSciFi.

Reading took a bit of a back seat to all the Christmas festivities but I think my first book of the year is gonna be The Gone World. I had hoped to read it in 2018 yet but nope. Movies That Suck will return and this week I'll have a post on dystopia in 2019 and a favorite posts of 2018. And I'll be doing the End of the Year book tag on Monday Whew!

  1. The first few art pieces you have featured, I think the artist sig says Artur Rosa? Wow, they're really talented, those are some gorgeous digital paintings!

  5. Oh nice! Sounds like everyone had a nice low key Christmas! Ours was pretty nice too!

Ooh Strange New World! I still need to read that duology! I had planned to binge it, so I better get on that soon! LOL. Hope you enjoy all the new reads!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  6. Glad you had a great Christmas! Low-key, quiet holidays can be the best. I haven't decided what my first read of 2019 is going to be, but I just got a few from the library, so lots to choose from!

  7. How did you do in the Bookish Games last time? I think I remember you saying something about participating! It's pretty brutal, right? We spent our holiday moving and unpacking, so it was definitely low-key! It was nice to be around family, even if it was chaotic.

  8. That original War of the Worlds movie scared me so much as a kid. It was the sound the ships made that got to me. lol

  9. I can't wait to see what you have to say about Strange New World! I finally started watching Travelers (after you mentioned it last week) and OMG I am SO invested!

  10. Great art this week! I pinned a few on Pinterest to keep. :) I hope you had a Merry Christmas!

  11. Reading took a back seat for me also. I had hoped to read more while I was off but I was really lazy this week and I am totally find with it since I think I needed a lazy week.
Wow the Bookish Games already. Can't wait to hear how you do in it. Good Luck! :)

Awww, I want a tree that grows kittens ;)

Have a great week, Greg! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :)

  12. Inception meets True Detective <-- sounds really interesting. I hope you get to The Gone World and that it lives up to this description. Happy New Year!

  13. I also love a low key holiday...glad you enjoyed yours, too. Those images are stunning, as usual.

Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  14. A low key Christmas sounds amazing. Glad it was a good one. I'm still trying to decide in my first book of the year. Hope you have a great week!

  16. Wow, the pictures are AMAZING, especially the first few- I can absolutely see them being fabulous for prompts too! I'd read stories about them! Bookish Games. I am simultaneously thrilled and terrified so that's where we stand with that hahah. This dystopia post sounds good, I am always here for anything regarding dystopia! So cute that you picked out your first book of the year- though I am glad because I want to know how it is (so selfish, I know 😂) I have no idea what mine will be. Just... finish whatever I am already reading? Hah. Looking forward to seeing your End of the Year tag too- I was going to do one but then I got too lazy.

  17. Glad to hear you had a nice low-key Christmas. I can't believe the year is almost gone!

I hoped to do more of an involved 2018 wrap up, but I think I'm just going to do the TTT best books of 2018. I'm just too tired to do anything else, lol. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

The art is beautiful but I think I love Autumn Cats the best, being a crazy cat lady and all, haha! I do love cats. :)

  18. Bring Your Own Character? OMG that sounds like pure entertainment honestly. 😂 I've got to peek in this one if I get the chance.

  19. That War of the Worlds cover is fabulous. 😍

We had a low-key holiday, too. It was just the way I like it. Ha ha. 🎄 I'm happy to hear yours was enjoyable as well. 🎅

I came up with a great idea listening to the ambients you've been
posting. It would be fun to practice soloing over some of these songs because they are so uncomplicated. 🎸

I love the diner image. Window booths are the best! 🍔🍟☕🍴

Here's to the new year; may it be filled with good books, laughter, and friends. 🎆🎇🎆🎇

  21. I really like that cover for War of the Worlds. Reminds me of the 50's movie, which i actually liked way more than the new version :D

  22. Glad you had a nice low key christmas, we did the same and succeeded in not doing any major cooking either. Only two more days and the whole madness is over. Love the art work this week.

  29. Books have taken a back seat here too with the holidays. My younger brother just went to AZ for the week. My older brothers birthday is on the 5th so I plan on spending the day there after class. I have a Saturday class now. Ughh so much to do so little time! Have a great New Year!
I totally LOVE the Movies that Suck posts!

  33. Low key Christmases are the best! I am curious what you think of The Gone World as I am pretty sure I have that on my shelf as the cover looks familiar. :)

  36. Good to hear you had a quiet but good Christmas. Seems so far away now! Oh wow more Bookish Games for you. Great way to start 2019.

  37. Oooh, I wish I was chilling on a hammock on a beach. I loved Christmas this year but I miss the warm weather.

I remember how much you enjoyed the Bookish Games last time. Yay for them reappearing so early in the new year!

  38. I think I'm going with Golden Gleam for my favorite this week. Have fun with the games! I didn't get much reading done either, but the trade-off was worth it.

  41. Bookish Games sounds fun! We're low key from Christmas Day to New Year's mostly because before Christmas ends up being so crazy! Happy New Year Greg!

  42. I am glad you had a fun lowkey Christmas. My Christmas was good too! I also didn't read nearly as much in December, what with all the family around and so many things to do. But it sounds like you have a solid read for starting the year off with.

  43. My book club read The Gone World. I listened to the audiobook and got a bit lost on the timeline jumps but I still enjoyed it. See what I read this month Girl Who Reads

  44. I'm glad to hear you had a nice Christmas. Mine was pretty lowkey too and I really enjoyed it that way. Wow, I guess I should probably start thinking about what my first read of 2019. I have it narrowed down to 2 ARCs and 1 backlist read, so I guess we'll see which one strikes my fancy tomorrow. Happy New Year!

  45. I'm happy you had a great holiday. Happy New Year!

Vintage scifi? Like my old favorites I have in paperback - Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, Larry Niven, Ursula LeGuin and Madeline L'Engle, for example? I got the Larry Niven ones signed when I met him at DragonCon in 2017. So exciting! A few of his books are part of a small collection of ones I have carried around with me for 40 years now.

Have a great week! Anne - Books of My Heart
