1) What are your top three bookish peeves?
Oh wow. I'll say love triangles off the top of my head. I mean, they're everywhere. Sometimes though, if they're done well... I'm okay with it? Just not always. I'm not super fond of cliffhangers either- I mean it's okay to continue a story, leave some threads hanging, but when we're literally cut off right in the action, and then have to wait a year or two... no.
Let's see- what else? I guess when characters make dumb decisions? Like if it seems really dumb to me as a reader, I wonder why the character doesn't get it.

3) Give 3 reading confessions
I actually am starting to like multiple POV stories. I mean I haven't ever disliked them necessarily but as I read more thrillers I'm coming to really enjoy the different angles.
I don't know if this is a confession, but if I read a fantasy book and there's no map, it feels weird.
I'd like to see an urban fantasy/ cozy mystery mash up? Or maybe more comedy fantasies?
4) When was the last time you cried during a book?
I don't know when I cried last, but this book was very moving, I thought.

I don't know if I have one! I don't usually snack when I read, oddly enough. But my favorite snack in general might be some chips and salsa.

I have noticed that in spite of fantasy being my go-to genre, I read less of it these days, and I'm not sure why?

My tastes have changed so much- or broadened I guess, is the better word! I read contemps now where before I hardly did.
DeleteI don’t snack while reading. Probably because I do most of my reading in bed before I go to sleep. I don’t want food in my bed. I’m not a fan of love triangles or unrealistically dumb decisions, either.

Yeah I'm always afraid I'll get food in the book. Argh. And yes if I think a reasonable person should have thought of something, lol, and the protag doesn't- they must be kinda dumb!
DeleteI agree, love triangles and idiotic character decisions rank very high on my pet peeves list when books are concerned. Snacking when I'm reading a book has always been a no go for me. I'm way to clumsy to be trusted with food and a book/tablet in hand and be expected to not dirty something up or break it :)
ReplyDeleteYes. A love triangle can be fine, I guess, if it's not every 5 mins and handled well, but mostly... no. And exactly! Books and food don't mix. :)
DeleteI love reading these! I wish I weren't so lazy or I'd join in on them too :) I have a hold on for the audio version Big Little Lies. I can't wait to get to it soon. It feels like I've been waiting an eternity.

DeleteNice book tag! I enjoyed reading your answers to this book tag. It was also fun seeing a photo of your bookshelf... As an reader and book lover, it's always fun to see what other reader's bookshelves look like and how their books are organized.

DeleteFun! However, now I'm craving chips and salsa. Hah! I don't usually snack when I read (need my hands), but I do like listening to audiobooks while I eat. It doesn't happen often, since I'm almost always eating with my kids, but on those rare occasions it's nice to just sit and listen to someone else read while I eat. <3

Chips and salsa= yes! And I don't do audio but that's a fantastic idea- I could listen to an audio and plow through some chips and salsa!!
DeleteI didn't do audio until I had kids -- needed my hands more! Hah! It gave me a new appreciation for audiobooks.

ReplyDeleteI think that characters who make poor decisions have to to be one of my biggest pet peeves as well. You want to root for them and then they just lose all respect, you know? Love your responses to this tag. :)

I kind of agree about the map thing. The worst is when I am reading an ARC and it says "Map TK" like okay so they KNOW it needs a map, I just don't get to see it! I do not eat while reading either. Like ever, because it is dangerous! And I agree about the dumb decisions- especially when it doesn't even make sense for the character? I think if it at least somehow fits their personality I am more lenient but doing dumb crap for no reason is annoying (like that time that Clarke freed the damn worms in the desert, that wasn't smart, and VERY un-Clarke like.)
ReplyDeleteI can't stand big coincidences in stories, or WTF endings where something really weird happens so the author doesn't have to tie up any plot threads. Ugh.

Oh, thank you for the tag! (She exclaims, rolling in three days late...) I'm so happy you said something about maps in fantasy novels, because SAME. Even though I don't expect them in review copies, I still find myself flipping to the inside cover every time a new place or journey is mentioned. I need to know where you people are! I'm also very hot and cold on cliffhangers. Wondering what happens next is one thing, but please don't leave a character on the brink of death. Just, please no. Can't wait to answer these myself! :)
ReplyDeleteFantasy is my go to genre as well, and I also barely read any of it these days. It seems like I tend to pick up sci-fi books quicker than fantasy.
