Top Ten Throwback - Desert Island Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Artsy reader Girl. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week is a Top Ten Throwback- whatever topic we want! I don't think I've ever done the books on a desert island thing, so I'm gonna!

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers, #1)

People are probably sick of me saying this, but this is one of my favorite books. I see re- reading it numerous times, so yeah.

The Lord of the Rings (The Lord of the Rings, #1-3)

How could you not???

Planet of Exile

Another favorite.

Big Little Lies

Another one that people are probably sick of me pushing- but I love the book

The Shark Club

This one's a little iffier, but it's just a really good story.

A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5)

There's a lot happening here and I never get tired of this.

The Complete Morgaine (Morgaine Saga #1-4)

I love this story and can see re- reading

Eight Hundred Grapes

This is just one of those books that is so fun to revisit.

This one's a bit different as it's more of a resource book but it has amazing artwork.

Star man's son

An old favorite post-apoc. I've read it a zillion times and if I were on an island I could read it zillion more. :)

  1. I reckon I'd take A Storm of Swords if I could only take one by George!

  2. BLL is a great choice. The Long Way is one I still need to get to even as it sits my kindle. Hopefully soon!

  3. Ooh nice picks! All new to me ones but if they're books you love then they'll keep you company on the deserted island until the rescue boat comes! As there's always a rescue boat on the way in my scenario! LOL!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  7. I'd probably take the Harry Potter books-but if I could only pick one out of the series, it would be my favourite, Goblet of Fire.

  9. The Long Way and the sequel are both sitting on my bookshelf. They've been so close to the top of my TBR for ages! I'll really have to get around to them if you've enjoyed it so much.

  10. I was scrolling down and counting the seconds until I saw Shark Club :) Man I need to pick that one up!

  11. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, you have great taste sir *seriously nods*.

  14. Big Little Lies was a favorite of mine, too! I think my favorite deserted island type of book was On the Island. Great list here, Greg, and thanks for visiting my TTT! :)

  15. I really have to try that Morgaine book, you keep mentioning it and it's been on my Amazon wishlist for like a year now because of you. I'll have to pull the trigger!

  19. Nice selection of books for the desert island theme. I don't remember if I did the desert island theme topic either!

I selected the freebie topic and chose the top ten book festivals I'd love to attend here in the USA. Here's a link to my TTT post for this week: https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2018/07/top-ten-tueday-ttt-throwback-freebie.html?showComment=1531236356028#c2173527157270187754

  20. oh an interesting choice here!

  21. I'm forever and always team "push the books we liked best." I've lost count of the number of times I've featured Anna and the French Kiss. It's just fun. :D

Fun topic, Greg - and thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland.

  22. So I've seen the Eight Hundred Grapes book on your list before. Why is it one you'd like to have with you on a deserted island? I have it on my TBR list simply because I've seen it here so many times. I must know more. I have read two Ursula Le Guin books this year since her passing. I liked them but wasn't completely over the moon. Have you read a lot of her books and Planet of Exiles is her best?

  23. Love your recommendations Greg! You've picked some good ones!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Great list! Love Lord of the Rings!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great selection! Definitely yes to Lord of the Rings, and Big Little Lies is so good! And yes, I REALLY need to read The Long Way SOON :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOTR is one I would definitely pack! I still need to read so many of these, whenever I see you mention most of these I always remind myself to pick them up soon, but always forget! I'm definitely going to try to pick up The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet and the Morgaine collection. Great list!

  27. I'm actually really impressed that you were able to narrow this list down. It would take me a while to decide which I wanted with me. Must check out The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've reread all the Game of Thrones books except for A Dance With Dragons - I know I should reread it, because there was just so much going on, I know I missed stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh some great choices! I might need a waterproof trunk for my choices. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  30. Great list! I’d bring George RR Martin’s books to an island with me. It takes me about a month to read each one. They’d keep me busy.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

    ReplyDelete
  31. BIG LITTLE LIES!!! I totally loved that book-- have you watched the show yet????

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great choices! Big Little Lies would be a great reread I think because I'm sure there are details I missed the first time around! I just got the audio book for Eight Hundred Grapes which I think is probably your fault but I'm looking forward to it.

  33. Can you believe that I still haven't read any CJ Cherryh?! And I call myself an SFF fan. Would you recommend starting with the Morgaine books? Still haven't read Big Little Lies either, but I did love the adaptation. How strange (and awesome???) to see Reese Witherspoon in a role like that! And of course Nicole Kidman was incredible too.

  34. Love the topic - I love the cover of Big Little Lies.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So, if I get to bring 10 books to a desert island... okay- the 3 THG books, and 5 seasons of The 100 on DVD (shh it counts) still leaves me room for 2 more... hm. Tricky!

I need to read most of these still! Well- I read The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, but not the sequel(s- is that out yet?) and even though I have a lot of them... oops hah.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You're allowed to keep pushing the same books if you want ;-) I feel like we all do that. We do all these posts for different topics, but we just talk about the same books in each one, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes to Lord of the Rings! I've never read Big Little Lies, but I did love the show! Maybe it's time to get around to the book... Great list!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I really need to get a physical copy of a long way. <3 Also yeay Lotr!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Great list! You have some interesting picks! Written in Red would definitely be one of the books I would take! ♥️

  40. Great choices, Greg. :) Personally, though, my desert island books would be on survival - boat building, fire making, rescue signals, edible plants, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What no survival books? But it looks like you'd be pretty entertained. ;D

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.
