Summer is rolling on here in the north. How was everyone's week? Mine was pretty good, I finally finished Blackfish City (!!!) and rolled right into The Lies They Tell. I'm happy to report that the reading has resumed to a satisfactory level. It's raining as I write this and I'm going to open a window and let the night air in, enjoy the breeze- listen to wind chimes and the gently falling rain- it's midsummer and that means warm summer nights and fireflies. The sound of rain dripping from the leaves... I hope you are having a good weekend.    

 This past week I posted the first two Kamandi Challenge posts. And my Nancy Drew/ Hardy Boys Tag will be up on Monday. Other than that I reviewed Blackfish City and The Lies They Tell should be next week? I also wrote some flash fiction- this one's called The Escape and is based on this image- it should be up on Wednesday.      

Movies That Suck this past week was supposed to be Edge of Seventeen but I didn't get it done in time. Maybe just as well. Clearly I am not picking out bad movies. But there may be some relief on the way as I have Big Trouble in Little china coming up- that definitely qualifies- and thanks to Stormi for that suggestion! This week, though, will be Day of the Triffids. Yes, plant creatures that kill. What's not to love?

    The crickets have already started chirping here, which used to be my signal that summer is winding down. Seems to me they are about three weeks early? At least two; I wonder what that means? 😦

    I'll be on the lookout for the Flash Fiction. ✒

    The white dragon image reminds me of the River Spirit in Spirited Away. 🐉

      Noooo not the end... actually last week I was pining for fall so I guess I'm wishy-washy. I could use a break from the heat though... summer nights, on the other hand, are sublime.

    I love opening the windows and letting the breeze come in. Looks like this weekend will be a little cooler, so that's nice! Happy reading, Greg!

    I've been sleeping with the window open for weeks now but I only do that with a mesh bug screen across it to deter moths and especially spiders! *shudders* It is cooler here thankfully so I hope summer is finished!

      I won't miss summer, even though I like cool summer nights! And yes bug screens are good- don't they understand they belong outside??

    There's nothing better than sleeping with the windows open, listening to the rain. Unfortunately, it only rains in California a few times a year so I don't get to do that very often! Looking forward to The Day of the Triffids😁

    OOOH how's The Lies They Tell so far??? It looks really intriguing. And it's usually scorching hot in my country, but I love keeping the window open during the rainy season. ♥

      Lies They Tell was the BOMB. I really liked it. Okay it's got YA tropes goin on and some cringey moments, but generally I liked it lots!

    Seeing your old school covers has me hunting for a few, and found an Alfred Hitchcock Mystery book from the 80's. Glad the reading is getting back o where you wanted it to be, and that cool air at night sounds fabulous. Sure hope your weekend is going well! Hugs...RO

    Under the Water is absolutely beautiful. I'm still anxious to hear what you think about Survive the Night. I remember Big Trouble in Little China - it was bad date night when I was in high school. I don't know that I need to remember that :) Have a good week Greg!

    Ah, Blackfish City hah. At least I DID find out why the town name was... that. Because it is a real place! And so far that's the only interesting thing that has happened bwhahah. Glad that Lies They Tell was good at least! And really, who can blame you for not picking movies that are super terrible? Because you have to sit through them!

    Love the pictures underwater, they are so peaceful and calming! The one of the girl's face not being on... not so much. That one picture reminds me of Octavia, Idk why. Also, I burst out laughing at the cover for Murder One- that face she was making, it cracked me up and I am not even sure why but it did.

      Murder One cracked me up. And for some reason I looked at that one and then the thumbnail pic for the Dorothy video, and thought the lips went well together? Either that or I'm losing it. :)

    I want rain and a cool breeze! We're under a heat advisory instead, lol. I try not to go outside, but sometimes it can't be helped.

    We have seen a lot of wooly worms here where we live, normally a sign that summer is coming to a close and fall is on its way. *fingers crossed* I am so ready for some cooler temperatures. Enjoy your upcoming week. :)

    We've had a lot of ridiculously warm weather around my part of the world, but I spent yesterday down on the Gulf of Mexico beaches and it was surprisingly cool and breezy. I'm glad you are enjoying summer, and I'm glad your reading mojo has resumed.

    Your art is always fabulous - but this week you have excelled yourself - that dragon weaving between the trees... awesome! And we STILL haven't had any rain! Not so much as a drop - I like the heat, but the plants and animals could do with a break... This is England, after all, the land of rain and murk...

    I'm a big fan of Rachel Vincent, so I need to read her new series. The Lies They Tell looks like some creepy goodness too!
    And oh my goodness! That art! Someone needs to write books for each of those ASAP.

    We hardly get spring here. There's a small window of time when we can actually open our windows before the heat and humidity of summer make it impossible. LOL I've noticed that your Movies That Suck don;t suck, Grag. LOL

    I am eyeing The Lies They Tell...and I got an ARC of The Lies We Told this week...LOL. Such a trend with the word "lies" in titles lately.

    I loved the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books when I was a kid. There was even a series about the Hardy Boys on a Disney channel when I was a kid...which really ages me, doesn't it? LOL

    It hasn't been cool enough here to open the windows at night. Not yet, anyway. Not to mention mosquitoes, which always seem to find a way to get through (or around) the screens.     I love a rainy midsummer eve - and fireflies! Did you know that there are rare synchronous fireflies in spots in the US? Lol. Nerd fact of the day, I guess. We are hoping to take Wyatt to see them when he gets older.

    It's been a while since I've stopped by for one of these posts and I still love the images at the end just as much as always. Loving those dragon images!

    So jealous of the rain you're having! Still stuck in the heatwave here and I'm just waiting for the heat to break and for a couple of summer storms and rain to roll in just to freshen things up a bit. Also, there's nothing better than keeping the windows open when it's raining in letting a breeze in the house and reading a good book. The sound of rain in summer is just so relaxing.     If you could send some rain down here that'd be okay. Actually never mind - because that'd just increase the humidity and I'm about done with that! You have been picking a lot of good movies for your bad movies! I'll be curious to see what you think of Big Trouble in Little China. I listened to a podcast making fun of it - either Read it and Weep (not as good as it used to be) or How Did This Get Made (soooo funny) - and remember enjoying the episode though I've never seen the movie.
    You asked about the schools here being air conditioned on my Sunday Post. Everything is air conditioned here. We typically have temperatures in the 90s from April to October so air conditioning is top priority here. Even when I was in school it was air conditioned and had been for some time. Now our heating systems are a whole other story...

    Rain?! You got rain? I'm desperate to see some rain. We've had so very little over the past couple of months that it's completely unheard of here in the UK. It's so hot... I'm dreaming of thunderstorms!

    I'm going to be honest - Big Trouble in Little China is one of my favorite Kurt Russell movies. It may be silly but it's a lot of fun. :D
