Hey it's March! One of my favorite months. And it was in the fifties this week, so yay for that. Before long I can be a beach bum again and break out the flip flops. Well, maybe not quite yet, but it's gonna happen! Honest. Meanwhile it's been a good reading week. I'm currently reading People Like Us and it's a trip.

This week I had a ton of book mail come in. Do you ever read a book on Kindle and decide you need a physical copy? I do, and so I recently ordered a bunch of books that were sitting on my Kindle, but not on my bookshelf. Is there anything better than book mail?? I ordered the Blue, The Girls in the Garden, Ivory & Bone/ Obsidian & Stars, and some other stuff... needless to say my shelf has been enhanced with these beauties.

Last week I reviewed What Alice Knew and The Marriage Pact. This week I'll be taking a look at The Vault of Dreamers as well as a Bookstore Spotlight.

  1. I feel like I am the only person who doesn't have Obsidio *crying* It's so funny you mention loving book mail, because I do get excited when I win a book and it come in the mail, but I almost never read the physical copy (usually because the font is too small). People Like Us was one of my anticipated reads. I am hoping my library gets it soon. Can't wait to see your review.

  4. Yay for 50 degree weather. We just had a snow storm and it is supposed to be in the 40s all week. I am so ready for warmer weather. People Like Us is one I so want to read. I preordered Obsidio - and I am so not the preordering type but I NEED it. Hope you have a great week!

I tend to want my favorites on my shelve, on my kindle, and in audio. I thought that I was the only one :) Have a great week!

  39. I need to check out your review for The Marriage Pact. Curious about that one. Altered Carbon is a show on my radar. Dichen Lachman was also in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. Did you ever watch that? Glad to hear it's been warming up for you. It's been in the 30s-60s range and raining here in Southern California, which is cold for us. My husband still wears shorts and flip flops in the 60s, lol, so it must be a man thing, because I'd freeze if I did that! Enjoy your week, Greg! :)

    1. The MArriage Pact was good, but a little over the top? Like some of the things that occurred... as for altered Carbon, I didn't love it? Maybe because the lead was a little wooden, didn't really work for me. Lachman though was good! And no I haven't seen that show, thanks for letting me know! She was in The 100 too briefly...

Yup I'll do that in the 60's too, ha ha. It must be a guy thing! Stubbornness probably!!

We have horrible snowy weather and it's been super cold, so its been nice staying indoors and trying to catch up with my tv shows and books. 43. I'm the exact same, sometimes I love a book so much and just want to own a copy myself. Part of it simply because it means I can lend it out to friends that way, but also it's knowing I'll have a physical copy to read. holding a book in your hands is just so nice. I hope you enjoy all your new books. Have a good week.

  49. Actually, I've never ordered a book that I had on the Kindle as a physical book. I am a very practical person, so I feel like it would beat the point for me :D but everyone has their own reasons, so it makes sense if you actually want to hold the books you really really liked, especially if you're going to be rereading them. I don't reread much, but I have physical copies of the ones I do reread!

  55. 1. I read Vault of Dreamers before it came out as an ARC and it was NOT listed as a series on Goodreads so when I got the end and it ended on a cliffhanger (just a heads up there, but it looks like you've got book 2) I was MEGA PISSED. And then the sequel didn't come out for AGES so I never picked it back up. So we'll see what you think - if it's all good, maybe I'll try and find a copy of the second book!

    2. That white dragon is GORGEOUS

    3. Oh my god Altered Carbon was SO. FREAKING. AMAZING. And the nudity was actually one of the many, many amazing things about the show. (Like for real, I have zero complaints about it which is pretty rare). Full nudity is basically nonexistent - but the show managed to do it AND they did it what felt pretty equally between genders. AND when they did full nudity (or showing of the downstairs bits), I don't think it was ever sexualized - I think ever full nude scene was just....normal. Which is the first time I ever saw that and it was just so incredibly done. I had never heard of the book series before and I really want to read them now - but if they do a second season I also don't want spoilers for myself for the show so....we'll see

    1. Thanks for the awesome comments. Oh I can see that- Vault ends on a HUGE cliffhanger! I would also be pisssed! I do have book two though and liked it. Book three was a little less for me, but I am done w/ the series now.

I love that dragon pic. Something about the water, and the misty forest...

Wasn't Altered Carbon a trip? I thought it was a little slow to start off, but by the end it picked up a lot of steam. Dichen Lachman was definitely a high point, as were the flashbacks as to what happened? I agree about the nudity- it was equal opportunity nudity (if that makes sense??) and yes done as if it were natural, like in real life perhaps. It could have been gratuitous very easily. I think I've read the first chapter of the book, because I was really curious, but I haven't decided whether to get the whole book yet...

  56. I feel like it was so close to being flip floppy for good and then... well, then there was the foot of snow, so my boots are (grudgingly) back. But you're right- there IS an end in sight! Beacchhhh that sounds so nice. Ah, book hauls are kind of the best! I can't wait to read Obsidio either, I'll have to drop everything as soon as it gets here because well, you know how people and spoilers are!

The cover of Too Many Cooks makes me chuckle because the guy doesn't even look scared, he just looks... annoyed. Like he's pissed off at the inconvenience of the gun in his face hah. Watching Dichen's interview now because of course. I love how she talks about the lack of protection while fighting naked because YES that was my biggest concern bwhaha. (She's still the only reason I want to watch AC, but I do not care enough of course. But still.... Anyaaaa.)

    1. So you have snow? Noooo... we don't but it's cold. :( Grr.
