This week is Top Ten That Characters That Would Make Great Leaders. Hmmm... interesting topic! I decided to go with those who either are a great leader, or have potential to be great.

1) Tyrion Lannister

He's smart and did save Kings Landing from Stannis.

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)

2) Katniss Everdeen

Probably pretty obvious, but I think her leadership partly stems from the fact that she didn't seek it out- it was thrust on her by her sacrifice.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)

3) Luke Skywalker

Look I have no idea what's going on in the new movie with all this last Jedi stuff, but in my own personal headcanon Luke went on to form a new order of Jedi- different from the old order, sure, but I think that's the promise of Return of th Jedi- that they would carry on.

4) Thomas from The Maze Runner

I don't know the book story since I haven't read 'em, but I like the movies, and I think Thomas and Teresa work pretty well together.

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1)

5) Katharine/ Arsinoe/ Mirabella

From Kendare Blake's One Dark Throne- the three sisters who must kill each other to claim the throne. All three might be badass leaders, but who will survive?

One Dark Throne (Three Dark Crowns, #2)

6) Kiva

From The Collapsing Empire. She's a trip.

The Collapsing Empire (The Interdependency #1)

7) Clarke

From The 100. A natural leader and she makes the tough calls.

8) Pam Landy

From the Bourne movies.

9)  Aragorn

From Lord of the Rings. A reluctant leader, perhaps, are often the best ones?

The Lord of the Rings (The Lord of the Rings, #1-3)

10) Snake Plissken

  1. So agree with Tyrion and Katniss. Not characters who would ever seek out the leadership role or crave power, but that's exactly what would make them good leaders. Still laughing at Snake Plissken. OMG, that's classic. Now I need a rewatch of EfNY. *poor Cabbie*

  3. I know just about half of these characters and I think they make great choices, especially the reluctant ones.

  5. If I participated this week, Tyrion would have been at the top of my list! He's super smart and witty, and he has such a mind for strategy. He's good at observing people and knowing how to react to them.

  6. Hi! Katniss was on my list, too! And I really liked Pam Landy from the Bourne movies. I love those movies :)

  8. So many good ones on this list! I should've thought of Aragorn - he's definitely a fantastic leader!

    Here are my Top Ten!

  9. This is a great list Greg! There are so many books on your list that I haven't picked up yet, but I have to agree Tyrion would make a great leader!

  10. Aragorn made my list, too! I'm embarrassed to admit how many of your other picks I haven't read. I should at least read the Hunger Games books. I'm staying away from the GRRM books for now, for a host of reasons, but I may try them eventually (if he ever finishes the series.) As for Luke Skywalker, I don't know. I think Leia makes a much better leader than he does, and clearly it's not what he wants to do. What is it with these Jedi who go off and become hermits, anyway? Yoda, Obi-Wan, Luke...

  11. Hmmm I don't know about Kat/Arsinoe/Mirabella. I finished One Dark Throne a few days ago and I don't think any of them could lead.

    1. They're kind of all a mess? Do you have a favorite? I kinda like them all in different ways...

    2. Haha yeah ! Hmm... Kat is my favorite. Arsinoe and Mira's pov bored me a little.

  12. Nice choices! Tyrion is such a great leader! And can't forget Clarke, she's great! And of course Aragorn :)

  13. You picked a lot of great ones. I think Tyrion should be king. He’s one of the greatest fictional leaders ever.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  14. Really great list! Aragorn is such a great choice, I can easily see him becoming a fantastic ruler. Tyrion would also make a great leader, as would the three sisters from One Dark Throne. Nice choices!

  15. Totally agree with Katniss, and Tyrion, from the little I know from the show!

  16. I don't know about the three queens . I thought we started seeing some cracks in one of them in ODT, but I am eager to see who survives.

  17. Yea for Like and Tyrion. They'd make an excellent presidential ticket in my opinion!

  18. Kiva is ruthless, but I love her! I think she would be a good leader. I totally agree with your pick of Clarke! She's definitely more of a leader that Bellamy. Well, at this point anyhow. Just finished season one. I'm totally a Bellarke, too! I don't know if it happens but I'm crossing my fingers! :)

    1. Kiva is a bit (too?) ruthless, or we'll say morally flexible ha ha, but I loved her! And Clarke... yeah. They put her through SO much, it's amazing she survives. That show is a wringer! And Bellarke all the way!!!

  19. Obviously Clarke is a great choice. If you asked her, she is "the only choice" hahah. Katniss, yes. Because she was basically chosen, which is a fun twist. I barely remember The Maze Runner, but that dude did seem in charge so sure. I still say Arsinoe is the best leader. Actually, maybe Jules is, and forget all three of them. And Idk who that last guy is but I agree with him basically.

    1. "I have to make the right decisions" I can see her crying out as she keeps running up. "And him too" lol as she grabs Bellamy and yanks him over. :)

I thought you might approve of Katniss! Arsinoe and Jules are both great choices! And Snake Plissken... yup speak it brother.

  20. Ooo, I like your list! Katniss is a given, she would make a fabulous leader! I haven't seen The 100, but I'll trust you when you say that Clarke would be a good leader. ;)

  21. I totally agree with your comments on Luke. In fact, as soon as I saw him on your list, I was like, well, old EU aka Legends Luke was a great leader, but I don't know what is up with the one in the new canon now. In fact, a friend and I had a discussion when TFA came out about how disappointed we were in what they did to his character. The Luke we knew did not hide away when the galaxy needed him! :D

    1. Exactly. I felt they got it really wrong when they made him a hermit somewhere. I could see him scouring the galaxy for artifacts/ Jedi lore or whatever, sure, but to not be around when he must have sensed all the turmoil with Han and Leia... nah, not buying it.

  22. Clarke is definitely a born leader. I love Katniss as a leader as well even if she didn't actively seek it out like you said.

  23. You give some really great choices Greg, but I'm gonna have to choose the very Kool Katniss from The Hunger Games as my fave. She rocked it! Hope all is well! Hugs...RO

  24. I don't know all of them but it's a good choice for the one I do

  25. I haven't read about all of these characters but from what I know, you've done a fab job this week! :-)

  26. I agree with you on Aragorn and maybe Tyrion - He's definitely good at manipulation and plotting.

I don't think Katniss would make a good leader. I like her and I think she's more inspirational and maybe the head of the military would be better for her but I would choose Peeta over her as a general leader.

  27. I'm not really familiar with any of these except for Katniss and she's definitely a good choice. She tough and understood without too much fuss about the importance of the relationship with Peeta in the first book.

  28. So much yes on Tyrion Lannister, as much as I'd love to see a lady sitting on the Iron Throne, he'd be a great leader too. - Katie

  29. I do like the idea of Tyrion Lannister being a leader somewhere. He is one of the few characters who seems to actually see the long-reaching consequences of leadership decisions and be able to step back and assess rationally. And Katniss and Aragorn - yes, I think the best leaders are often those who don't seek out power; those who seek it out are too focused on it to do much good with it. Tricky, that. Great post!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh I agree with Tyrion. He did so well as the hand and nobody noticed. ._.

    ReplyDelete
  31. YES, YES, YES. I completely agree. Katniss and Thomas would both be absolutely amazing leaders. :) Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3
