This week is Top Ten Yummy Foods Mentioned In Books or some variant thereof. Perhaps a favorite food appears in a book, or the book takes place in a restaurant or some such. Skies the limit! I'm going with locations where I'd like to have a feast. No rhyme or reason.
Game of Thrones and food are no strangers. But my pick here is... Hot Pie! He's still out there baking pies somewhere...
Lots of places in Middle- earth for a good meal. First and foremost might be Rivendell, where after a meal with the elves you could retire to the Hall of Fire for an evening.
This is the Hall of Fire...here you will hear many songs and tales- if you can keep awake. But except on high days it usually stands empty and quiet, and people come here who wish for peace, and thought. There is always a fire here, all the year round, but there is little other light.
The Wayfarer's chef - Dr. Chef- makes amazing food!
Panem- because I think they feed you pretty good if you're a Tribute right? You know, before sending you off to die.
Italy and food.

Jabba's palace! At least there's entertainment while you dine.
I usually don't notice food in books, but yes, I do think of Hunger Games when I see these kinds of questions because I remember them having that one meal or whatever... Idk, I remember food lol. And it would def be cool to eat at a tavern or hall or something in a high fantasy book somewhere!
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember these ridiculous feasts or something? I've never read the books so I don't know, but I saw the movies? And I agree- I want to eat in a great hall that's all smoky and eat by a roaring fire!
DeleteI like your spin on this topic. Have a great week. - Katie
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie!
DeleteI was wondering how you'd turn a foodie topic into sci-fi fantasy :-D
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the good folk of NZ have worked out a tourist angle that could allow the dedicated to have a Hobbit-like feast in The Shire? Complete with fireworks of course!
Ha ha! And I womder that too! Although I thought I read somewhere that you can eat at the Green Dragon Inn that's on the tour site- but you have to be part of the tour, it's not like open to the public.
DeleteGreat post! My son is actually in Middle Earth visiting the shire as we speak LOL
ReplyDeleteIs he reading about it, or playing a game like LOTRO?
DeleteOOh nice twist of the topic! I twisted mine too...mostly because I couldn't remember what foods were eaten in the books I read! Not a lot of emphasis is put on eating apparently!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Ha twists are good. I wasn't sure how else to tackle this one. Food doesn't seem to play a huge role in the stuff I read, other than Game of Thrones, where he goes on and on about it lol.
DeleteI'm on the waiting list for Love and Gelato. I'm looking forward to it.
ReplyDeletehttps://readerbuzz.blogspot.com/2017/10/baking-bread-fiction-nonfiction-and.html
I hope you like it- I thought it was a cute read.
DeleteI really enjoyed this post! I'd like to eat a meal in the Shire or Rivendell too. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Those places would be kind of fabulous wouldn't they??
DeleteLove & Gelato made my list this week too! Because, yummmy! Who doesn't like some gelato once in a while? And because of its setting, I've no doubt, there's lots of good food mentioned in the story too. Now, if only I'd read this one! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, 'Angry Planet' has a really cool cover design.
Exactly. I saw it on your post and smiled. And I think if I remember right that food was mentioned a few times- it's set in Florence- and it made me hungry!
DeleteFunny how I never would have guessed some of those mention food LOL! Fun theme today!
ReplyDeleteI know right- who would have thought? :)
DeleteAwesome list - and very entertaining. I had difficulty with this topic because I don't really pay attention to food in books. I switched it up a bit but I think it's still related.
ReplyDeleteI did too. It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to go about this!
DeleteYou know the hobbits definitely have the best homey comfort food. I run a monthly link up for books about food. You are welcome to link up your post at http://www.spiritblog.net/october-2017-foodies-read/. We have a monthly giveaway for books about food awarded by a draw from all the reviews posted.
ReplyDeleteOh I know it! And thanks- I'll link up. :) Sounds like fun.
DeleteI think I was a Hobbit in a past life - I definitely think about food a lot!
ReplyDeleteI think I was too.
DeleteLove & Gelato is one I need to get to because who doesn't want to read about food and Italy!
ReplyDeleteRight? Plus it's pretty good!
DeleteI almost put The Hunger Games on my list too bc the people in the Capital eat until they puke-- so that's gotta be some pretty good food!!
ReplyDeleteDo they really? I had no idea! I've seen the movies but haven't read the books. That's crazy, but from what I saw of Panem I guess I'm not surprised!
DeleteIf A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is on the list then it's a good list ;) Love and Gelato has such a cute cover!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Agreed! Would love to eat on that ship- that lounge she described would be awesome! And I do like the Love and Gelato cover- one of my favorites.
DeleteHi! Hunger Games! Haha, I can't believe I didn't think of that one. Love and Gelato is a good one, too :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Leslie
Thanks! :)
DeleteI love books that include food or chefs!
ReplyDeleteFor What It's Worth
Me too- all the food please lol.
DeleteI'd like to try lembas bread
ReplyDeleteI would too.
DeleteI would love to dine with the elves, or anyone really, from LOTR!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be amazing? Imagine the food, not to mention the awesome company.
DeleteYes to direwolf bread!
ReplyDeleteI would eat that!!
DeleteItaly and food go so well together.
ReplyDeleteI think so :)
DeleteOh great choices for this week! I love Gelato and Italy is such a stunning country... Obviously, I want to read Love & Gelato, ahah, it sounds like such an adorable book :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a really cute book, I liked it a lot.
Deletelol, I'm loving your choices. If ever were to find the Shire, I would never, ever leave!
ReplyDeleteYeah I could live in the Shire I think! Thanks ha ha!
DeleteThe food you get as a tribute is probably the only good thing about it! I wouldn't mind being a tribute, you know just for the food as long as I would be able to miss the whole killing part...
ReplyDeleteExactly. Can we just have the food part ha ?
Deletehey at least you thought of quiet a lot :D I think this meme would stump me
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while, and I still didn't get ten, but I got through so I'll go with it lol!
DeleteNice spin this week! I would eat any where in the Star Wars universe. Or Harry Potter would be fun too! Here's my TTT this week. I'm also running a Giveaway this week too! :)
ReplyDeleteFun twist. I would love to dine in Middle Earth. Those hobbits really knew how to eat.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you included Hot Pie in this. I love that little nugget so much and... actually, now I'm just hungry. BUT YES, MIDDLE EARTH!!! THE HUNGER GAMES!! Fantastic list. I'm quite literally swooning (and my stomach is growling but that's neither here nor there) and all that jazz.
ReplyDeleteHa Hot Pie is the best? Kinda mean at first but he came around. :) And Middle- earth for ALL the food!!
DeleteFun spin on this week's topic and yay for Hot Pie making the list!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't do Panem but I loved the rest of the choices. I think the Shire might be my first choice.
ReplyDeleteYou KNOW I am signing up for dining at The Hunger Games. Katniss was a big fan of the lamb stew with plums hah. And then of course in Catching Fire, everyone's obsessed with the bread. A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is such a great choice, and one I wouldn't have thought of, good call! (Incidentally this also reminds me that I must read the sequel.) Love & Gelato is also a great choice. That book made me want to get to Italy ASAP. I couldn't think of many so I didn't do this one, but one that always comes to mind is The Wrath and the Dawn. It's like foodie heaven. Great picks, love your take on this topic!
ReplyDeleteYeah Panem minus the bloodshed? I like the train meals. I am a huge bread eater, so if the have good crusty hot bread, I'm in. And lamb stew? Hmm...
DeleteOh yes, I really want a Game of Thrones cook book! And who can forget the hobbits with their second and third breakfasts? And I'm not sure I want to eat at Jabba's Palace, after seeing seeing what he snacks on :D
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Great choices! I'd love to try so many of these, especially from LOTR! :)
ReplyDeleteLauren @ Always Me
I don’t usually pay attention to food in books, but maybe I should. This week’s prompt is making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
This is a fun twist to the topic! I'm not sure if I'd want to eat with anyone from the Game of Thrones series, the meat pies and poisonous cake lol. Yoda would be great company but his stew looked like sludge lol.
ReplyDeleteI think sharing a meal with hobbits would be a really enjoyable experience.
ReplyDeleteMeals in the shire seem like fun!
ReplyDeleteI think the food would be good?!?
DeleteGreat picks!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Erica!
DeleteI really need to go visit New Zealand and pretend to be a Hobbit one day, I am all for elevenses :) I seem to read a lot of books that involve food in one way or the other (usually baked things or chocolate, hmmm).
ReplyDeleteThat makes two of us. :) And I read a lot of fantasy so there's always the feasts and fairly yummy meals being described...
DeleteI always have my foodie glasses on while reading. Great ideas in this post. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI love reading about food!!!
DeleteLove and Gelato. Yes, I think that is something I need. lol
ReplyDeleteYeah not a bad combo :)
DeleteI'm so glad you participate with these Top Ten Tuesday topics. I like reading a guy's perspective.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I used to skip them because I thought they'd be too time consuming, but now I love doing them :)
DeleteI would take a meal in the Shire! You know the hobbits aren't worried about calorie counts and the beer is plentiful! Feasts aside I think I'll stay clear of the world of Game of Thrones. The feasts may be good but it's too dangerous!
ReplyDeleteI would too! And you're right calorie restrictions would NOT ne an issue. lol Yeah I think the Shire is a lot safer!
DeleteThat blue milk in SW always made me think that they were drinking fabric softener or something LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat picks, Greg! I don't know that I pay attention to food or drinks unless it's specifically talked about in a book but now you'll have me thinking about what kinds of foods/drinks are served in certain worlds. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou obviously pay a lot more attention to book food than I do. I've read a number of these books and I don't remember most of the food you mentioned. That's why I had to do book covers this week -- it was so much easier on my 41-year-old memory!
ReplyDeleteHaha your description for the Hunger Games! So true!
ReplyDeleteyes to Hunger Games definitely! I wanted to ride in those trains and stay in those hotel rooms so much! and Yes, I remember liking the food descriptions in The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet very much as well!
