LONGEST BOOKS I'VE READ
A Dance With Dragons is one of my favorite books, and one of the few I can read over and over. I think I've been through it three or four times now. Like the rest of the series there are multiple POV's, and the chapters are fairly short, so even at 1,125 pages the book flies?
To Green Angel Tower was so big they had to split it in two, so there's a Part 1 and a Part 2 in the paperback version. The hardcover is listed as 1,083 pages.
A Storm of Swords has so many moments.
A Feast For Crows may not be my favorite Ice and Fire book but it has a Cersei perspective...
The Lord of the Rings were originally intended to be one book by Tolkien, even though they were published as three books. So I went with it and it's listed as 1,216 pages.

You're sure right about Lord of the Rings, Greg. It was a long book AND a long movie, but they were all phenomenal. Most of the longest books that I've read would have to be a good portion of Tom Clancy's novels, including Commander in Chief at 717 pages. Hugs..RO

DeleteThe Game of Thrones books are definitely among the longest ones I've read. The Outlander books are also up there in the page count!

DeleteThe massiveness of the books is one of the reasons I’ve been putting off the George RR Martin series. I have the first book sitting on my shelf, but it’s so big! It’ll take me forever to read that.

Ha I'd rather read a few shorter books than a long one that takes me forever! I mean occasionally I'm in the mood for a long chunkster, I guess it depends on the book.

DeleteHA, no surprise that most of these books are from ASOIAF! I'm a big LOTR fan, but I actually didn't know that it was intended to be released as a single book rather than three volumes. I have no idea what the longest books on my TBR would be, but I'm excited to find out! :D
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I wanted to showcase more variety but I honestly could't find anything else as long (that I've read, anyways). And the LoTR thing surprised me too- I know he wrote the books over the course of years, but I read that he never thought of them as separate books, they just had to be published that way.

DeleteI read Replica and I ended up not even finishing Gemma's story. I thought it would be easier to read Lyra's all the way through and then Gemma's. Even though they were different perspectives I got bored reading about the same situations they were in again. I think if I end up reading Ringer, I'll switch chapters instead.
ReplyDeleteI was afraid of that too. I ended up reading alternate chapters, and it was kinda nice seeing how they each interpreted the same events as they went. I don't think I would have liked reading all of one, then the other, either.
DeleteI don't read a LOT of really long books. I think Julie McElwain's Kendra Donovan series is quite long - each book is about 500 or 600 pages I think? Of course, there are some of the longer Harry Potter books too.

ReplyDeleteI once read David Copperfield because my dad made me, that was 974 pages. And mind numbingly boring, but that's another story. The longest book I have read by choice: City of Heavenly Fire (725), and frankly, I wish I hadn't bothered. I think I have it in my mind that I just do not like long books, so it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy or something. I am glad you have better luck with them, though!
I know, I was surprised? I'm kinda looking forward to it tho, I liked Replica.
DeleteHa ha I haven't read those. I do like a good long book if it's, you know, good. If it's an epic fantasy or whatever and it's just long because the author apparently thinks they need to write a chunkster, I'm like- no.
I don't know if I should be relieved or not, because I honestly thought you were going to write a very long post about long books (my brain is weird). I think I've been putting off GoT for now and probably forever is the length, but then I've read books like the Deathly Hallows.

I'm guessing Winds of Winter will be at least 900 pages if not more. I highly doubt it'll be less.

DeleteNot surprised that your books were all fantasy! Mine were too. All those pages world-building, plus a (normally) larger cast too! I have yet to read Replica, but I hope to one day! It's just not on my urgent list. :)

DeleteHa! I knew there would be George R.R. Martin books on your list as soon as I saw what the tag was about. It impresses me that you can read those multiple times. I enjoy them but don't know if I could bring myself to read them again. I'm hoping to get to A Feast of Crows later this year.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's a shocker :):):) And I love those books although after a few times I have no desire to read the first three any more! As for Feast for Crows, keep in mind it's slower and different than the other books, but there is a LOT of foreshadowing and set up for later events that are going to huge!

ReplyDeleteThose Martin books are the long ones, for sure! I will be tackling them when the last book comes out. I thought The Winds of Winter was supposed to be the last one, but I heard that it was not. Do you know how many more he intends to write?
