Top Ten Books I Read In One Sitting

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week is a Read In One Sitting Theme but the specifics are almost like a free one. So I'm going with books that are hard to stop once I start. These are all books that take over my life when I read them. :)

A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5)

The combination of relatively short chapters and fantastic characters makes this an obvious choice.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers, #1)

My favorite SF book in a long time.

Big Little Lies

Compulsively readable.

Planet of Exile

One of my favorite books- and very short

A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3)

The third book of A Song of Ice and Fire- and perhaps the best? So much happens here- not least the redemption arc of Jaime Lannister.

Lost Girls

This one kept me reading.

The Blue

I had to know what happened...

The Girls in the Garden

Same here.

City of the Lost (Casey Duncan, #1)

Addictive.

The Girl from the Sea

I kinda blew through this one.

  1. I would be super impressed if you read those Martin books in one sitting since his books are usually over 1000 pages. I'm a slowwww reader, so it would take me forever to finish books like that.

The Blue looks like a total "me" book. I gotta put that on my library list :)

    1. Oh there's no way I could read those in one sitting. It's more that they take over my life when I read them. :) And the Blue was really good!

  2. Ditto on the GRRM books! How'd you manage that??

    1. No way! I just meant they take over when I read them. :)

  3. Those books that you just don't want to put down are the best! I'm currently reading one of those right now. You should feel honored that I took a break to comment on your post :-P It's even better when it's not even so much that you want to know what will happen with some specific mystery or something but that you just love the characters and world and story so much that you don't want to leave!

  8. You read A Storm of Swords in one sitting? Wow! *bows down to you* I loved it, actually just wrote my review to post later this week, but I seriously didn't think I was ever going to finish it. I think it took me 3 months, haha!

  9. I can't imagine reading a George R. R. Martin in one sitting! But you are right...it takes over your life.

  11. Oh, I love the twist you put on this one. I hope to read Big Little Lies, City of the Lost, and The Girls in the Garden soon. Nice list and you've inspired me to move one or two of these up on the TBR.

  12. I haven't read any of these yet, but Big Little Lies, Girls in the Garden, and City of the Lost sound so good.

  13. You have a nice list here. Planet of Exile was particularly good. Ursula K. Le Guin is one of my favorite sci-fi writers.

The Girls in the Garden sounds intriguing - and possibly quite scary - as well.

  15. It took me a lot longer than a day to get through Big Little Lies, but I loved it. Girls in the Garden is still on my list.

  16. It's interesting to me that you have a couple of GRR Martin books in here. REading those in one sitting is a feat! Props, man. :D

  17. City of the Lost Look so good!
I used to be a fast reader, but not anymore before a book would take me 2-3 days to read them , now probably 2 weeks, even if I love them.

  18. I like your description of this list: "books that take over my life when I read them". My reading lately hasn't been with these kinds of books, instead they just seem to drag! I need to read Big Little Lies...

  19. I've seen The Girls in the Garden everywhere and I'm both excited and terrified to read it!

  20. Little Big Lies is such a good book! Great list Greg. :-)

  22. This is a great list, Greg. I love books that are hard to put down. I almost went in that direction, but changed my mind at the last minute. I hope to read The Girls in the Garden very soon.

  23. This is an interesting selection of books, I have heard of some but not others. It is always a great feeling when you find a book that you simply can not put down.

  24. I like your take on this! I don't do many one sitting reads anymore but there are so many books that I find myself sneaking off to read just a few more pages. I really want to read The Blue and The Girls in the Garden.

  25. I remember when ADwD came out, it consumed my life for days too. So much that, after I finished the book, I had a book hangover than lasted for months and I didn't pick up another book in that time because I felt like nothing else could grip me the same way.

  26. I agree with the George R. R. Martin books. When the next one comes out, I will have to take time off from work cause I definitely won't want to stop reading!!!

  27. I think it says a lot about a book when you can read it in on sitting. Great list!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I need to read so many of these. Like, all of them. But most definitely A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, since I own it. Also really want to read Big Little Lies, City of the Lost, and start the George RR Martin ones, but only if he promises to finish them ha. Great choices!

  29. It's funny to see Liane Moriarty on this list because I was just watching a booktube channel that recommended her books. Good to know it's an addicting read. :)

Thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland, Greg.

  30. I felt the same about Big Little Lies and City of the Lost. Can you believe I've never read George R. Martin? I'm a little afraid to pick up his series because I hear he doesn't hold back killing off characters. I'm going to pick up a Lisa Jewell very soon, but not this title. Makes me excited to read her work. The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet looks interesting. I'll have to check that one out. Great post, Greg! :)

    1. Big Little Lies was fabulous (I'm liking the show also) and ditto for City of the Lost. And don't feel bad, I think a lot of people haven't tackled George RR MArtin's books yet. He does seem to kill off characters a little too enthusiastically. :)

I've heard good things about Lisa Jewell and I liked this one, and she has one coming out in April that I have my eye on too!

  31. I haven't read all these books, Greg, but OMG I want to read them all. They sound Awesome. I'll check all of them out and see which one of them I'm in the mood for. Thanks for sharing, Greg. :-)

    1. Thank you for stopping. :) And they're all good. :)

  32. Goodness, I don't think I've read any of these. Those read in one sitting books are always fun. I think the last time I did that was with 'I Am Not a Serial Killer' by Dan Wells. That entire series actually. Eoin Colfer's 'Iron Man: The Gauntlet' was close, but I think my need for sleep made it two sittings, instead of one. XD

    1. I don't usually read a book in one sitting, so I had to cheat on this a little. But these all took up SO much of my free time until I finished them. :)

  33. Aren't George RR Martin books really long? I am very impressed you finished them in one day...unless it meant you didn't eat or sleep. My TTT, a day late

    1. They are super long, and no I didn't read them in one sitting (I think my brain would melt). :) But they do take over my life when I read them.

  34. When I first scanned this post, I thought, "YOU READ A DANCE WITH DRAGONS IN ONE SITTING?!" And then of course I saw that you modified the theme a little bit. If you had read A Dance with Dragons in one sitting I would have been beyond impressed.

    1. I know? I would be seriously impressed if anyone could do that. I don't usually read a book in one sitting although it's happened a few times...

  35. City of the Lost took over my life when I read it too! I was actually on vacation in New Orleans, and I stayed up until like 5 AM (after partying...haha...sigh) to finish reading it. TOTALLY worth it, imo!
