Top Ten Authors I've Met/ Would Like To meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week is a fun topic- authors we've met or would like to meet. I think I've only met three authors in an actual face-to-face, book signing type setting, but I've run into others in a more informal way at like conventions or whatever. So I'll start with the ones I have met or brushed elbows with, and then finish with authors I'd LIKE to meet.

A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5)

I met George at his signing in Ann Arbor.

The Sword of Shannara (The Original Shannara Trilogy #1)

I met Terry Brooks at a signing in college and he was a super nice guy.

Letters from Skye

Jessica Brockmole did a signing just as I was starting blogging and I kept seeing good reviews for this, so I went. A good book and my first author interview.

Image result

R.A. Salvatore has been at GenCon many times and I used to go every year, so I've seen him there.

These are the writers I'd like to meet

Big Little Lies

Liane Moriarty just because I love this book so much.

Replica (Replica, #1)
Lauren Oliver just because I like how everything she writes is so different.

Ten Thousand Skies Above You (Firebird, #2)
Claudia Gray (who I only know through her two Star Wars novels- and I never read Star Wars books).

The Girls in the Garden

Just based on the strength of this one.

Fangirl

Rainbow Rowell seems so down to earth and I love her writing.

The Hobbit

Of course JRR Tolkien if he were with us.

  1. If you ever see George again, tell him to get the darn GoT books written! Gah! I kind of want to wait until I have them all before I start reading so I can binge read but I'm not sure the rest of the books will ever be done! I think my dad would want to have met Tolkien...he's a big fan.

    1. I will! Although I don't think I'll see him anytime soon, since the next would be his next book tour lol.

Funny story- when I saw him after book four he said he's probably be around again in a year or so for book 5- um, that didn't happen since it took a lot longer than that for 5 to come out!

  2. Oh wow this is so great! You have met some famous authors, wowww! I met a few briefly at BEA and ALA, but I missed Lauren Oliver and I am sad. I also (this is seriously the saddest) slept through my alarm to meet Ann M. Martin last year. I never ever do that, but I had taken Tylenol PM. She's like, my childhood idol. Rainbow Rowell does seem super fun. And I LOVED Claudia Gray's newest book so I'd love to meet her. I don't know if/when I will even see more authors, which is sad to think about! No one comes here ever- closest is always 2 hours away. In NYC, usually, which is... an ordeal hahah.

    1. I'm kinda glad I met Martin. :) I would love to meet Lauren Oliver, since I like her writing and how every book is different. Aw sorry to hear about the missed one! And Rainbow I'd love to meet.

Are you doing BEA? I know there have been... changes...

  3. This is a great list! It's awesome that you've met George R.R. Martin! Claudia Gray was at the same signing as Lauren Oliver when I went. She was super nice, but I haven't read any of her books yet.

  4. I wonder if J. R. R. Tolkien ever went on author tours like we have now. It would be wonderful to meet him.

    1. I wonder! Probably not? I'm sure it would have been neat to know him though.

  5. That's so cool that you got to meet George R.R. Martin! I'm sure I'd make a fool of myself if I ever met him, lol.

I definitely agree on wishing I could have met Tolkien.

  6. I have Lauren Oliver and Rainbow Rowell on my list and I totally forgot Liane Moriarty!! I love her books too!!

  7. Tolkien would be cool to meet! Too bad he's gone - that's an idea for another TTT - authors you wish were still with us!

  8. Oh. I would love Liane Moriarty too. She's one of my fav authors but I forgot to put her on my write-up. I hope she doesn't take it personally and refuse to meet me :-)
What was it like to meet George R R Martin?

    1. Ha ha yeah Moriarty would be cool.

Martin was very low key, down to earth. He made a joke about how one of his first signings there was like only a few people there... this was long before Game of Thrones took off. :)

  9. I think Rainbow Rowell would be awesome to meet. Have you heard if she is working on a new book. I think the last one that came out was Carry On wasn't it? I'm surprised G.R.R.M. still does public appearances - he's probably sick of people asking about release dates - which they wouldn't have to do if he would just release the next book! Great list

    1. I do too. Would LOVE to meet her. I've only read one of her books (and a short story) but was very impressed. I do not know what she's working on now...

      agree about Martin!

  10. I'm so jealous you met George RR Martin! He seems like he would be a hoot!

  11. That's so great that you got to meet George R. Martin! I would love to meet Rainbow Rowell as well. And of course J.R.R. Tolkien if it would still be possible.

  12. Great list!
I have the GoT books but I never read them, my husband has and he devoured them! The only author from this list that I have read is Claudia Gray and it was the Evernight Series.

  13. Oh Em Gee... you've met two of my very favorite authors - Terry Brooks and R. A. Salvatore! I've heard Bob is a bit odd though (but I'm thinking most authors are a bit). What a great list of authors though!

    Here is my TTT.

    1. I don't really know Bob, he was one that was at a convention a lot but I never actually talked to him.

  15. I've only met 3 authors in my life. They were Cynthia Hand, Veronica Rossi and Brodi Ashton. I rarely get authors come through my small part of Massachusettes. HOWEVER. Sarah J. Maas is going to be like 1.5 hours from me in May and I'm DEFINITELY going to see her. I've already put in the vaca request from work. I will not miss her! I have all her books to be signed LOL.

  16. You've met George that's amazing!! Oh yes Claudia Gray and Rainbow Rowell how did I forget those two!

  17. I hope you meet the rest of the authors on your TTT list this week. The cool thing is that I made a TTT post a couple of years ago of all the authors I wanted to meet in person some day and I ended up meeting three of them in person within a year!!

This week I choose to focus on the eleven authors I can't believe I've al ready met! Here's a link to my TTT post for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2017/03/top-ten-tuesday-ten-authors-i-cant.html

  18. YASSSS to Rainbow Rowell! She sounds like a cool person to hang with. :D

  19. I haven't met too many fantasy authors, but I have met a few mystery writers. They are always such a nice and fun bunch. There are a few authors out there I would like to meet. My problem is I am star-struck when it comes to authors, and I get all tongue-tied when I meet them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I never knew you were a Rowell fan. I haven't read anything by her yet. I might read Carry On at some point. I would test the waters with one of her Contemporaries, but I have always been broke when they have been on ebook special. Ha ha. George R.R. Martin... now there is an author a lot of people will be jealous you have met. The only author I have met that anyone might have an inkling of who they are is Rod Serling's daughter, but she is an acquaintance of mine, so I don't know if that counts. Plus, it is for her mémoire of her father. She is working in a fiction title, though. Thanks for sharing your list. I want to check out some of these books, too. :)

  21. I would love to meet Martin, even though I'd be super nervous. I'd also have to make sure I didn't say something incredibly stupid, because I feel like he'd be quite witty (I always picture him as a mix of Varys and Tyrion with a bit of Littlefinger thrown into the mix). And Moriarty would be wonderful to meet too!

  22. I accidentally missed Jessica Brockmole. I loved the writing of Letters from Skye and the sentiment, but found some of it far-fetched (ever try to keep a secret in a small town? lol) Her 3rd book is out in August. I'm still trying to get to her second! I really love her writing even if the one story had some elements I didn't "buy". I did not wait in the several blocks long line to meet Rainbow Rowell in Cincinnati a few years ago since I hadn't yet read anything of hers. Liane Moriarity! I'd love to take a master class from her in pacing! SUPER list!

  23. So lucky :) I have never met any authors, nor will I ever, probably. Way too far away from proper civilization. I wonder who I'd like to meet though? I've never even thought about it, mostly because it seems impossible anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow, you have met some big name authors!! Of course Liane Moriarty and Rainbow Rowell made my list, and for the same reasons that they made yours! Great list this week.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow! You met George R. R. Martin? Seriously impressive! I think Rowell and Moriarty would be so much fun! Tolkien would be interesting too. We need a time machine for that kind of thing!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, Greg! You've met some amazing authors. How exciting! :-)

  27. You've met some cool authors! I was so close to adding Salvatore, Brooks, and Martin to my own list actually! :)

  28. Is it strange that I'm a little envious you've met GRRM and I haven't even read GoT yet?!? ;) I realized reading your post that I have Letters from Skye still sitting on my shelf! And I'd love to meet Liane Moriarty too! :) Hope you're having a great week, Greg!

  29. I'm seeing Tolkien quite a bit this week. I wouldn't mind meeting him either. Great list!

  30. I met GRRM last year at Balticon where he was guest of honor. I literally ran into him as I turned the corner into the conference hall to get registered, I was so shocked! He was so nice though, even agreed to a hug and a selfie, and the next day I got to get my book signed. Definitely the biggest highlight of my weekend.

  31. Great list! I am curious, what would you say is your fave Rainbow Rowell book? I just can't get into her books and so many people love them. Good call on Tolkien, definitely would be an interesting meet!

    1. I've only read Fangirl but I loved it. It seemed to capture the college feel so well, even though my experiences were different there was something about it that just rang true. I haven't read anything else by her but I keep saying I want to! Sorry to hear she didn't work for you though, I've heard people say that too. It's funny how that goes, some authors work for us and some don't. :)

      Thanks for stopping by!!

  32. I met Lauren Oliver, but it was before I read Before I Fall-- so I'd love to meet her again now that I'm a TRUE FAN. And Rainbow is super funny, I hope you get to meet her!!

  33. oh how exciting :D you have met some really great authors! I don't think I have met any myself yet ;/

  34. I only tried Rowell but that's an interesting choice!

  35. Amazing list! Meeting George R. R. Martin would surely be epic :D And I've met Lauren Oliver a lot since she's a local author here so she's always at the events--she's super sweet and funny :)

  36. I've met Terry Brooks, too! The lineup for his signing was so long and moved so slowly, and I was starting to get really impatient and grumpy (I wasn't even a fan - I was getting a signed book for someone else!), but when it was finally my turn, he was so sweet and so friendly that he totally charmed all my grumpiness away!!

  37. I've never read anything by Rainbow, but given the idea of her books and how everyone raves about them, she seems as if she'd be a fabulous author to someday meet. Lauren Oliver and Claudia Gray are also familiar names to me though, as usual, I've yet to read something by them. :)

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland, Greg.

  38. That is so incredibly cool that you met GRRM! I can only imagine how crazy his signings must be- when he actually has a book to sign, LOLOL! I've met Claudia Gray and she was super nice; I really need to check out her Star Wars novels!

  39. Kinda jealous you meet George.. that is so cool. I would have passed out probably, I stink in social settings. AND YES LAUREN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I saw George R.R. Martin in action at Fantasycon a few years ago and he impressed me as a thoroughly nice chap, who really was enjoying being there. Clever and funny and not remotely big-headed about his huge profile - he was great on the panels.
