Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.
This week's pick- To The Stars!
This week I'm going rogue looking at retro scifi. Since January is Vintage SciFi Month (hosted by Little Red Reviewer) it seems like a good time to revisit this topic. I've done retro SF before but this is specifically to celebrate Vintage Month.
I did not know there was a vintage sci fi month, very cool! I've never read any vintage sci fi.
ReplyDeleteMy fave cover is the one with the guy jumping onto the ship because it just looks so ridiculously dangerous lol. And the guy on Snows of Ganymede looks incredibly shocked about something. I want to know what he's so shocked about... But the woman on the last cover looks fierce!
It's lower key than SciFi Month in November, but there's some good stuff. I don't read much vintage SF but I love the covers.
DeleteI know I've used some of these before but I love that one. Snows of Ganymede is a favorite too (I just like the name). And yeah she does lok fierce doesn't she? Although whoever her companion is, I think they're dragon food.
Wow! These covers look so simplistic, cool and vintage! (even though I haven't read any of these books lol) Great list!

Thank you! I had fun finding them...
DeleteLove the vintage covers! Snows of Ganymede looks like a Hardy Boys cover just in space! I really like the cover of Dune as well. The city and the rock and the colors are really eye catching.
ReplyDeleteIt does, doesn't it? I wouldn't have thought of that but there is a certain resemblance ha ha! Dune is nice too just such a classic look.
DeleteI love looking at retro covers. My fave here is "One Against Herculum" because I can only imagine what he is saying when he makes that leap!
ReplyDeleteI know? I know I'd be saying something like oh s^&t lol!
DeleteHi Greg; I will publish after I do pick up so I can ask my dames what they're reading now ^__^. Mahalo for stopping by and hope you have time to come by again later on.
ReplyDeleteHey Stefanie- hope all is well. I'll be by to check out your post!
DeleteOh, echoes of publishing times gone by.
ReplyDeleteThe One against Herculum looks like James Bond in space and I thought the guy on The Planet of No Return was a Boy Scout at first glance.
Great selection of covers.
I know. I went back and looked and you're right- he could be a Boy scout!
DeleteI love some of those old school covers, they are so great!
ReplyDeleteAren't they something? they certainly wouldn't fly today lol.
DeleteThose are some cool covers! I love seeing the cover prices, too- if only books still cost that much, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh I know- 35<? I would take that in a heartbeat! Imagine all the books we could get. :)
DeleteWow! Look at how cheap those books were!! It's amazing how much inflation can do...
ReplyDeleteAnyways these covers look so cool! I like how they have that vintage vibe. I might even look into reading a few of these. Haha
I know! I want those prices. :) And they are so vintage- I don't know how they would read (I've only read two of them) but I bet they're different!
DeleteThe modern sci-fi covers of today might be more majestic and impressive, but nothing beats the old-school nostalgic feel of these vintage covers.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
There's definitely a nostalgic vibe, no doubt. And some work for me better than others, but they sure were something.
DeleteThose are cool but I like The Secret Agent of Terra the best!
ReplyDeleteI like that one too!
DeleteI think I've said before how much I love vintage book cover art. These examples are all great, and quite tame and tasteful in comparison with some of the sci-fi cover art I have seen. The Planet of Exile is my favourite of these.
ReplyDeleteHonestly LOVE the vintage covers! Like LOVE them. This is a great topic and PERFECT for you! lol. The covers almost remind me of the Twilight Zone :)
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to Star Borne. That little naked man and his teensy arrow doesn't stand a chance against that sea serpent but he valiantly tries anyway. Now that's a hero, lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat covers! Has Sugar and Snark started posting again? Although this totally sounds like your topic that you would pick. :-)
ReplyDeleteDune! And I still love that One Against Herculum cover. :)
ReplyDeleteI would pick gargoyles for a Characteristics topic!
