Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.
This week's pick- Ferris Wheels
This week we're heading to the carnival or the fair for the big wheel. This almost feels like a continuation of last weeks- I guess it is kinda- and an interesting topic, with lots of possibilities. Every carnival seems to have a big wheel of one sort or another- some people love 'em and others want nothing to do with them. How about you- are you a fan? And do you like going to the carnival?
This one's not bad, I like the different colors of the seats.
This is probably my favorite of the bunch- I like the night sky, the lights and the sense that anything can happen at a carnival. The wheel and the roller coaster in the back just make me want to know more.
I like this one a lot too, both for the old time seats and the colorful natures of it.
You know something's going on here and it's not good. It's got a tense quality to it and if I remember right this is a merfolk type story, so there's that. One of the better ones.
This one's not bad, I like the lights and again the sense that the carnival is a vibrant and colorful place.
Seems a little ominous with the dark clouds and just the whole atmosphere of it- and shouldn't the wheel be lighted?
Romance at the fair...
The creepiest one on the list, and yes I used it last week, but it's a great cover. And there is a Ferris wheel way back there...
The only cover I found where you're actually up in the air and I liked that perspective. A solid cover.
Beautiful covers :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, they were fun to look for.
DeleteI love all of these! The Museum of Extraordinary Things, Undertow, and All the Missing Girls are probably my favorite but they're all really eye catching.
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun one. I LOVE Extraordinary things, easily my favorite one. :)
DeleteI'm impressed that you found so many! ...On Googling, I just discovered that Goodreads actually has a list of 36 titles with ferris wheels on the cover. Wow. I had no idea it was such a popular image for book covers! Makes sense, though. Ferris wheels are really emblematic of state fairs and amusement parks and just plain fun.
ReplyDeleteI think I saw that list too, although I didn't use it much. Oddly enough I'm funny about which ones I pick out, I have to like them (well not always) but if it grabs me a bit I use it, but sometimes I just don't like a cover and don't use it. Too picky I think. :)
DeleteI had no idea there were so many books with ferris wheels on the cover lol!
ReplyDeleteMe neither. It took me a while but not to long to find these. Some I quite like. :)
DeleteBeautiful selection! I loved The Boxcar children. Will try to get to this tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks, looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
DeleteThe Museum of Extraordinary Things is my favourite too! I've been meaning to buy it for a while, just based on that cover...!
ReplyDeleteAll of these look really pretty though. I guess Ferris wheels are just a cool thing for a book cover?
I've never seen any of these before, but I love that cover. The whole nighttime thing with the lights and everything in the background- just looks so summery. And yeah I guess they are good cover feature. :)
DeleteDefinitely a fan of carnivals! I was always a thrill ride person, the crazier the better lol. And I don't have a fear of heights. So Ferris wheels have never been a problem. I always liked them just because they're traditional and relaxing.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I see we agree on the Undertow cover. I absolute love the Museum of Extraordinary Things cover though. By the time I found that one, I had already made my whole post and didn't feel like editing it lol. And of course I like the Four one. I know I read A Corner of the Universe when I was younger, but now I have no clue what it was about.
I used to like them as a kid but oddly enough I'm less crazy now about sitting way up there when they stop. lol. Still you can't have a carny without 'em! I love the festive nature of a carnival. Everybody's having fun and it's just a good time.
DeleteExtraordinary Things is an amazing cover, just love it. And yes Undertow is nice too, I thought about reading those but it didn't sound really my thing, in spite of the merfolk. I haven't actually read ANY of these but it was fun finding them. :)
I never realized how many books had Ferris Wheels on them! I am quite surprised by home many you found! And I am surprised by how many of these books I know and have read.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover for The Museum of Extraordinary Things!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the selection you have picked, and never noticed the run down wheel on Undertow until you mentioned it.
I like that one too- such an awesome cover. And thanks. I noticed the wheel on Undertow after seeing it on your post!
DeleteOh! For me it's a toss-up between Undertow and The Museum of Extraordinary Things.
ReplyDeleteI like both of those too. they're both great covers. :)
DeleteIt's funny how you don't often realize how many certain themes like this are on book covers until you see a bunch in a group. And I love fairs and carnivals!
ReplyDeleteI like both Undertow and Carniepunk. Both seem a little grittier/darker than the fun lightness usually associated with carnivals
ReplyDeleteI almost picked Four as well! The Carnie Punk one has it in the very background, I didn't see it at first! Great picks. Thanks for visiting my post earlier!
ReplyDeleteWow, there were a lot of these. You have reminded me that I need to read The Boxcar Children books. I have promised a couple of people.
ReplyDeleteOoooh... they are all interesting covers! Sometimes you don't really notice the ferris wheels to begin with! Great post Greg!
ReplyDeleteI think that Alice Hoffman cover is my favorite! Thanks for joining in last week :)
ReplyDeleteSugar & Snark
The Museum of Extraordinary Things is gorgeous! I also really like the one for All the Missing Girls.
