Top Ten Tuesday
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.
This week's topic is Top Ten Books To Read If You Are In The Mood For X
I decided to go with Ten Books To Read If You Love Mythical Places. As I was perusing covers I kept coming back to Middle Earth locations- so this could almost be a Middle earth post.
I've included both of these covers because they represent different places- the first one is the river in Mirkwood where barrels from the Elvenking's halls are lashed together into rafts and floated down to Lake- town. The artwork is by Tolkien himself and refers to the village of the raft- elves on the left. I've always been fascinated by Mirkwood and the Woodland Realm so this cover has always appealed to me.
The other cover is of course Bag End, the home of Bilbo and the epitome of comfort.
I'm pretty sure I'd end up making a Middle Earth post too if I tried mythical locations!

Yeah I realized I could have ended going on and on with those books. :) It was fun thinking about the locations though...
DeleteI have yet to read either Tolkien or Martin. Tolkien has really been pulling at me lately and I love the covers on these!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a chance to read Tolkien someday!
DeleteLike another commenter, if I made a list like this I'm pretty sure all of Middle Earth would fills spots 1 to 10 xD
ReplyDeletePosting that early cover of GoT reminds me of how much I miss those editions of the books (though I suppose the latest book covers are better than those strange monochrome ones from previous).
Great list! Thanks for dropping by my TTT
I love those first editions the artwork really set a tone. And that's probably my favorite of the bunch- it's kinda how I pictured Jon Snow.
DeleteGreat list! I love all of the pictures you added :) Who wouldn't want to go see some of the amazing sights of Middle Earth? Though, I think I'd take a pass on entering Game of Thrones, though :p I wouldn't last a day!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
I agree- on both counts. Westeros might be a wee bit dangerous ha ha. Middle earth though would be fantastic!
DeleteThere's nowhere really safe in Westeros to go visit! At least Middle Earth has a bunch of relatively safe places to go check out :p
DeleteGreat choices! I love LOTR and Game of Thrones. Love all the pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteI do too, this one was fun to think about. :)
DeleteI don't think I've read anything by either author. I guess it's time to add these authors to my reading wishlist.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to my TTT post for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2016/03/top-ten-tuesday-eleven-books-to-read-if.html
I love your list! I own both , TLOTR and GOT, but I haven't read them yet. I do love TLOTR movies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping at our TTT!
Great list! I love both of these worlds and the related books.
ReplyDeleteLisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies
This is a fun idea for a topic! I'm not sure Tolkien is really my thing to be honest, but the settings do seem pretty beautiful and spectacular. I still love that cover for The Fellowship of the Ring with the giant statues (I remember you used it on a cover post once). That is a place I would love to see in person! But all these locations look amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh interesting topic. I love how you are so drawn to Middle Earth. It has great locations.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read either of these authors. I think I am just intimidated by the books actually. Maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteI so badly want to read more of Tolkien's work. I've only read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I own the Silmarillion so I'm going to try and read that one soon. But I saw a collection of three lovely books by him in my local bookstore, like the Tom Bombadil book. Great list!
ReplyDeleteGREAT topic^^ I ADORE Mythical places :D I seriously need to read more Tolkien - I've only read Hobbit and LotR but all of his other works are pretty much all on my tbr shelf! I just need to get my hands on them to start but I know I'll love them all - he's brilliant ♥
ReplyDeleteI didn't even realize there were so many middle earth books... But, wow, some of those places look gorgeous! I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite, but I think it might be Gondolin - maybe just because that cover has dragons on it. :) And that Iron Throne from Kings Landing, I want it. I have no idea what I'd do with it. But it's totally okay for me to say I want it, right? Because it looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love the Tolkien Take-over! hahah But, really, what other mythical/fantasy settings are really worth mentioning?! Also, Game of Thrones is pretty good, too, but I'm a die-hard Tolkien fan lol
ReplyDeleteMolly @ Molly's Book Nook
Both fabulous places, but I'm not sure I'd want to visit either unless during a time of peace!
ReplyDeleteI have read The Hobbit and the trilogy, which I had in paperback until one college boyfriend didn't return them before he left. Ha ha. I have the Silmarillion, Book of Lost Tales, and Unfinished Stories in hardcover because back in the 80s I belonged to a Fantasy/SciFi book of the month club. I have not read Unfinished Stories yet. I think I am going to wait and read the RR Martin books when I am fully retired so I can take my time with them, and read them back to back. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, I just loved looking at all the LOTR covers and images! If I had to choose a mythical world to live in or at least visit, I'd probably choose Rivendell or the Shire. Gorgeous, so thanks for sharing.
