This week we're looking at the Top Ten Best Books of 2015. It's striking to me how many contemporaries are on this list. In fact my usual kind of reads are not represented much at all. I'm not sure what that means, but a good book is a good book, and while last year was a heavy YA year for me, I guess this year was more the year of the contemporary. Or something.
At any rate, here are my picks for best of the year- or more accurately, the books I enjoyed the most. In no particular order- although Big Little Lies was my favorite book this year, hands down.
Great list! I haven't read any of these but a few are going to go on my wishlist. I own Big Little Lies, just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I might have to make that the next book I read during my commutes.
Big Little Lies is awesome, and hilarious too (at least I thought so). Even though there's serious the main character is fun and some of the observations from side characters really add a lot. :)
Great list! I've only read Guaranteed to Bleed but I want to read Deep End, Big Little Lies, Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman, and pretty much every other book on your list!
I can't remember if I've added Death of a Dishonourable Gentleman on my wishlist but it looks and sounds interesting, I'll have to keep a lookout for it :) Great list!
That is odd that the best books were mostly outside your genre. I am going to have to look into them since contemporary isn't really my thing either, but apparently these are just good period.
I just looked up the first book for Deadfall, and whaaa? Second person? That's unusual. I'm tempted to read it just to see what that's like.
I know, I don't know what it is. I was putting this list together and I was like, really? Kinda surprised myself.
Big Little Lies just cracked me up, and deadfall/ Blackbird- a lot of people hated the 2nd person but it didn't bother me. They weren't great books but I liked the premise, and they were good enough. :)
Heir to the Jedi and Time Salvager are already on my tbr shelf so I'm hoping that I'll get to both in 2016 - I've heard wonderful things about both :D Liane Moriarty is an author I've been meaning to check out as well so hopefully soon! Awesome list Greg^^
I am glad to see A Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman on your list. :-) I really want to read Big Little Lies and The Blue. The Julie Mulhern books look good too! And thanks to you Deadfall is one I hope to read. And The Time Salvager. Maybe I should just say all of them. :-)
I've not yet read any of these but 4 of them are on my wish list thanks to your reviews.:) Isn't it funny how the books we enjoyed the most don't always jibe with what types of books we prefer? It's an eye-opener.
Me too, it was nice to read some different things this year. We'll see what next year brings, hopefully more YA stuff. I read a lot of mystery this year.
Nice list! Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman looks appealing, and I should try Heir to the Jedi, since I enjoy both Star Wars and Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series.
Big Little Lies was awesome! Glad you loved it too. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI thought so too, I loved that book!

Thanks for stopping. I was pleasantly surprised by that one, it was a debut (I think) and the next one is due in March. A good book. :)
DeleteAwesome list! I've only read Heir, and it's definitely a good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle. I liked Heir, I wasn't sure if it was "best" material but it got me back into Star Wars a bit, and I liked the end a lot.
DeleteI haven't read any of these, but Time Salvager looks awesome! Great list :D
ReplyDeleteHere are my Top Ten!
Time Salvager is definitely interesting, after an iffy beginning I liked it later on. And there's a sequel next year.

ReplyDeleteLiane Moriarty has a way of infusing humor into stories with serious stuff that I really enjoyed. I'll read more of her. :)
DeleteThe cover for Time Salvager looks awesome! I haven't read any of these. But great list!

I think it's great you were surprised by your list. :)
