Sunday Post #74 It's Friday Night

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey

It's Friday night and I'm relaxing and watching The Amazing Race. It's been an interesting week but I did manage to get through a few reads. My next reads are up in the air a bit... I'm not sure what I will read next. Maybe this weekend I'll pick up something new.

The holidays are fast approaching and I enjoy everything about this time of year- the lights, the music, the hustle and bustle, picking out just the right present. The lights are twinkling and it feels great to take time and reflect and savor the moments. It is truly a special time of year, and I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays as well.

I've been thinking of reading challenges and have decided to do the Cloak and Dagger . I've been reading a lot of mysteries so this will work out well. I think this and the Vintage Science Fiction Month in January will keep me busy. And I did my COYER sign up this week too.

  1. Huh, that's disappointing to hear Marvel is so quick to disregard its own history and that their comics quality is degrading. I haven't read comics in years, except here and there, but they used to be so good.

Looking forward to your review of Mistletoe and Murder and I need to check out that Cloak and Dagger challenge. Not that I need another reading challenge but....:D

    1. I shouldn't say it's all bad, cause I'm sure there are good ones out there, but it just seems like quality is down... I was looking for a challenge or two and I think I have a few good ones now. We'll see how I do... :)

  2. I was tempted by the Cloak and Dagger Challenge so I definitely look forward to seeing how you do with it.
I don't know that much about Marvel but that does sound frustrating for fans. That's a pretty massive bit of history to just disregard. I've thought about starting Agents of the Shield since they just put the first season on Netflix. Not that I need a new show! Have a great week!

    1. I figured I'm reading so many mysteries anyway, I may as well do a mystery challenge! Should be fun. Marvel is funny, comics are more sophisticated now and you would think they could tell good stories without resorting to the lowest common denominator, but it seems like they do that a lot. I've heard Agents of Shield is good now, it started out rough and I didn't stick with it, but I've heard it's better. And it will tie into the movies a bit more now, apparently...

  3. I'm pretty excited about Insurgent, I think the trailer looks great. And the Cloak and Dagger Challenge looks interesting, I'll be looking forward to the books you review for that. Have a great week.

  4. Thank you for that paragraph about the holidays, Greg. Your twinkling lights, hustle and bustle, as well as the time spent with loved ones totally put me in the Christmas spirit!
I hope you'll pick a great read for your next book :) Have a fantastic week.

    1. You're welcome, and glad you're in the holiday mood! This time of year goes by way too fast, and I'm looking forward to savoring it as much as I can. :)

  5. It erks me when they change things like that, especially since she was there father from the beginning why change it now? I HATE when back stories change and a lot of Die Hards wont be happy either.

Your holiday explanation is exactly why I love the holidays, see I knew I liked you for a reason! I am loving this time of year and the real craziness starts this week for me and I CAN'T WAIT. It really is my favorite time of year. 11 days to go :)

    1. Me too, it's just a comic but I couldn't help but be irritated! :)

I'm with you, I don't mind the craziness, I kinda like being out in the crowds and hearing the Christmas tunes and all that. Just feels like part of the season. After it's over I'll be a little bored. :) Hope you have fun and enjoy the week!!

  6. I agree about this being a wonderful time of the year. I love to see the decorations and lights everywhere. The Cloak and Dagger challenge sounds good since I've been reading quite a few mysteries, too. I'll have to check out the videos, too. Have a great week, Greg!

    1. I do too, just looking down the streets as I pass and seeing all the decorations, and driving through the neighborhood. One of my favorite things. Thanks for stopping Jan and I hope your week, and holidays, are very nice.

  7. Since I am a continuity junkie that would really bug me if I were emotionally invested in the franchise. So I get why it would annoy you.

    1. I'm big on continuity, and yeah that irked me. It's just a comic so I shouldn't really care, but I did. :) Hope you're having a great weekend.

  8. I'm waiting on Insurgent. As for challenges, I'm looking at the A To Z Alphabet Challenge and then my usual reading challenge on Goodreads. I think 2 is enough and they both go all year so not so stressful.

    1. I read Insurgent so the trailer makes a lot more sense to me than it otherwise would. I went into Divergent not having read the book, so I was playing catch up a bit. This time i'll be a little more prepared- and the trailer looks good, doesn't it?

  9. I'm still undecided about which challenges to join...Cloak & Dagger is now on my consideration list...

  10. I feel the same way about the holidays - I love the music and lights and finding the perfect gift and then wrapping it :) just love it all!

I'm excited about insurgent, though I need to squeeze in the book soon - I only recently read divergent, which I really enjoyed too!

    Have a great week Greg!

  11. My oldest two sons were voracious collectors of Marvel comics, and, of course, have loved all the movies. But I suspect that they wouldn't enjoy the direction the comics have taken these days.

I haven't kept up...but I hope you enjoy the movies you see.

Have a great week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. I was a big collector growing up, so I can relate. :) The comics are a different animal these days and I think it's too bad that kids don't enjoy, but it's a different world.

      Have a nice week. :)

  12. Cloak and Dagger looks good..I will check it out. My future son in law made a similar comment recently as he is a big comic fan. I am loving the trailer for Divergent. Hope your week is amazing Greg!

  13. Oh, I haven't seen the Divergent trailer yet. I'm having trouble remembering what happened in the book and I have to read Allegiant - the trailer didn't jumpstart my memory, either, so I really need to get back to the books before watching the movie. I'm a bit scared of reading Allegiant, though, I haven't read any particularly good reviews about it...
I'm looking forward to your Game of Thrones discussion this week!

    1. I have not done a Game of thrones post in a while, so figured it was time! And I like that trailer- but yeah Insurgent didn't really stick with me in terms of remembering everything that happened, so I guess i wasn't too impressed, even though the trailer does look good I think. And I have not exactly been chomping at the bit to read the third one... maybe I just won't. :)

  14. The things I love about Christmas are: lights, a tree and snow. Not likely we'll get any snow here in NC, so 2 out of 3 aren't bad, I guess. lol I now have this uncontrollable urge to watch Used Cars and Escape From New York. Thanks for that. LOL

  17. The news about Marvel is frustrating, even if I haven't followed any comics for decades. I like my fictional canons to stay, well, canon! Thank you for the link to the Cloak & Dagger challenge; I'll check it out, although I've already committed to Cruisin' Thru the Cozies. And thanks for the Charlie Brown Christmas clips!

  18. I loved your opening for this week. Being with loved ones is what really matters.

I loved the Insurgent trailer but I don't remember some of that from the book. It still looks good and I can't wait to watch it.

The Cloak & Dagger challenge sounds like a lot fun and I need to add more mystery on my reading list. And the Bounty Hunter Code looks interesting. Our group leader at the Redwoods trip I went to had a code name Skywalker. Her real name is Hope but when she started there was another Hope working, so she was called the new Hope which is the title for Star Wars IV. So that's how she became to be known as Skywalker. It is just amazing how the franchise has touched so many people and I can't wait for the next movie!

I hope you enjoy your new book and have a great week!

  22. You're absolutely right, it is a special time of the year.
That Insurgent trailer looks good but I think they've changed the story a bit as a lot of that didn't sound familiar from the book. If they've changed it for the better I won't complain. ;-)
I hope you have a great week Greg.

  23. I think the traditions are my favorite part of Christmas. My kids sometimes refer to this as a "dorkfest", but they love it, too!

Must give some serious consideration to COYER. My e-reader book accumulations are out of control.

  24. I love this time of year as well. It really is magical and I love all of the holiday traditions and being with my family and friends. :)

I just told my husband about the whole Marvel thing - he thinks it is so crazy! It does seem weird to change something that has been so established for such a long time.

  25. I know nothing about comics or Marvel, but I can see how changes could bother life long fans. The Cloak and Dagger Challenge might be good for me as well since I've been reading more mysteries as well. Have a great week!

  26. I need to start figuring out challenges for the year too. Cloak and Dagger sounds like it may work for me. I do love my mysteries...
