I have some thoughts on Planet of Exile by Ursula LeGuin, a book I reviewed for Knights of the Dinner table magazine several years ago- this is one of my favorite books and I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts for SciFi Month. WOW, your area was a magnet for the snow! We were fortunate and only received 5 inches, most of which is gone after today's warmer temps and rain. Have fun at the open house.

DeleteWow, gorgeous photo. I know snow makes life tough but it just looks so pretty! Enjoy your Christmas event it sounds like a lot of fun. I like the look of your books too especially Murder at Mullings but you seem to have a good mix on your hands this week.
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the snow, except for driving in it!It was very nice to look at, it came down fast and furious and everything was white- but it's almost all melted now after warmer temps yesterday. It will be back though I'm sure. :) Mullings should be pretty good...

Oh my, that's a lot of snow, Greg! I've seen how much snow you guys in the northern and mid-western part of the US have been getting lately, and it's really amazing to me that you get so much all at once.

ReplyDeleteIn NJ we might be getting hit with a little snow this week I am hoping not since we have to travel on Thanksgiving (about an hour away) hate traveling in messy weather so fingers cross it waits till December, Id rather have a white Christmas than a white Thanksgiving.
I LOVE the Cover of Winter Frost and I might have said this already. I really need to go get it

DeleteThe snow looks so pretty! It's pretty cold here this week, but no snow yet, lol. In the netherlands we don't celebrate thanksgiving, but on 5 December we celebrate Sinterklaas. It's a holiday for the children mostly. Most people think you should wait til after Sinterklaas to put up christmas decorations, but there are people who don't celebrate sinterklaas and pu the christmas decorations up early. I haven't seen any christmas decorations yet, beside the small shopping centre in our neighborhood.

28 inches before Thanksgiving? That's impressive (and would be more so if Buffalo hadn't gotten so much. I feel for them - enough snow to trap you in your house must be a bit scary.) Your yard looks lovely in the snow, though - I love trees with snow on them like that.

My oldest brother and my mother came down from Michigan last week and brought that winter vortex with them. It was down right frigid here on the Gulf Coast. My brother went back home and put his house on the market. He's going to move down here now that he's retiring. Says it's his last winter there. I love winter down here but I do miss the wonderland at Christmas. We have cotton for snowballs here. LOL

I can see that, winter down there would be awfully nice. I could get used to warmer weather, although in all honesty I would miss the snow So it's a mixed bag for me... but when the roads are bad down there sound pretty good!

DeleteLove your photo! Living somewhere now where we don't get snow I miss the excitement of the first beautiful, peaceful hush of the snowfall. After a few days of near accidents on the road and the snow pushed to the side and covered with car exhaust... not so much :( Enjoy your beginning of winter when everything is more fun.
ReplyDeleteI checked out the Planet of Exile book. Interesting concept! I like fantasy more than sci-fi but this sounds good. Some reviews online say that her later writings are even better and this was one of her first. If that is true, and you loved this one then you might possibly enjoy other newer ones of hers.
I agree, that first snowfall is awesome and I love the quiet of it as well. And yes, after a while when the snow is all dirty it's less peaceful. :)
DeletePlanet of Exile was a favorite of mine as a kid, so I'm partial to it that way. I still think it's an interesting story, and I have not read a lot of the other work so I don't know how it holds up, but it is a story I enjoyed.
Oh my! I'm so glad I live in Dallas - that's too much snow for anytime, but especially for this early! No thank you, but it is beautiful from my vantage point of FAR AWAY! LOL!

Emma was considering a college somewhere and completely stopped looking at them when she was the average snowfall section on their info page. We are not snow people! It does look beautiful but 28 inches in November?? I keep meaning to look up Cannell's books on Kindle since it's been so long since I've read any of hers. I'm going to go right now and do that before I forget again. Have a great week and stay warm!
ReplyDeleteIt's unbelievable how much snow some people are getting. We've been lucky on my side of New York. It's been cold but no snow and now they are saying tomorrow could get up to 70 degrees, then the temps are going to drop again. It's crazy!

Hmph! Here in Australia we've had 40C temperatures and it's not yet summer! Guess you're saying the opposite about winter! That snow picture is amazing (plus I've only ever seen snow once!)

Oh the snowy garden is gorgeous. However some parts of your country seems to have had to much of it at once according to our TV news. Loved The Wizard of Earthsea books by Ursula le Guin and liked her Annals of the Western Shore. I have preordered Night Shift anthology and look forward to reading it very soon.

DeleteWow that is a lot of snow but it does put you in the Christmas mood. The open house sounds like a lot of fun. Our town has a tree lighting event next weekend so we are looking forward to it. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Winterfrost looks so cute! We have warm weather this week after a week of freezing temps, but no snow here (I'm in Georgia we only get snow at the worst possible moment). It's in the 60's right now. I would love to have snow days like you have, but are snow days are a mess. We get maybe 3 hours of true powder, then it becomes slush and then we end up on the nationwide news because no one can get home, lol.
