Sunday Post #68
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
November is here!
This week I finished Murder at the Brightwell, and my review will be up Tuesday. A nice read and a great debut mystery, set during the '30's. One of my favorites of the year, probably. Later in the week I'll have a review of Vitro, a great YA read from earlier this year.
November is Sci Fi Month, and I'll have a few posts going up in the next couple of weeks. It's not too late to join, you can sign up anytime this month. Also the Hohoho readathon is starting later this week, and that's been driving my book picks
This is also NaNoWriMo month, and I'll be taking part. There's a lot going on right now, but I've been planning on doing this for a while so I want to make it happen. I have a ambitious blog schedule for November so I may have to scale things back to accommodate Nano- we'll see how it goes.
Snow, shudder. My friends and family in VA got snow too but it missed MA.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for your review of Murder at the Brightwell! I'm hosting a challenge for Ho Ho Ho stop by and enter once everything's up!
I know it, I coudn't believe the snow coming down! Luckily it didn't stick... and last night was blustery! I liked Brightwell a lot, and I will definetly stop by for your challenge. Sound like fun!
DeleteWe had a couple inches of snow on Halloween, winter has come a little too early if you ask me. I really enjoyed your review of The Nine Lives of Christmas -- it sounds like a really cute holiday read. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Whitney. I liked the book a lot, and I'm curious how they'll adapt it to a show, although the casting doesn't look right to me. :) I agree about the weather- good grief that snow was kind of a shock! :)
DeleteLove the DnD quiz!! I look forward to your Sci-fi posts. I had no idea you were a writer! Good luck getting your writing done this month.
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela- should be fun. Although how I'll get everything done is beyond me. I am looking forward to the Sci Fi posts- should be a fun month!
DeleteOh good luck with the writing challenge, I need to totally check out the sci-fi month. I am excited about the Marvel announcement and DC too. Stay warm and have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with NaNoWriMo challenge and I hope your plans for November turns out just fine!
ReplyDeleteThank you, i do too. :)
DeleteMurder at the Brightwell sounds great, a mystery set in that era is normally a recipe for success for me.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with NaNo :)
It was a good one, and I like that timeframe as well. I seem to find myself picking up more books set in that time period...
DeleteGood luck with your reading challenges, Greg. We've got blustery weather here today, also.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2014/11/weekly-book-recap-87.html
Sounds like a shivery Halloween! This cold stuff is not for me! I'm looking forward to your review for Murder at the Brightwell. I've loved the excerpts you've put up and it definitely sounds like my kind of book. Good luck with NaNoWriMo! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katherine- I'm looking forward to NaNo and it's my first time so I'm sure it will be interesting! Brightwell is quite good, I recommend it heartily!
DeleteWwo you had you snow already, it hasn't been that cold yet here. We usually don't get snow till december, but we didn't have any snow last year.
ReplyDeleteI am really excited sci-fi month has started. I stopped by a few blogs already and had my first sci-fi themed post yesterday.
Good luck with NaNoWriMo! What kind of book are you writing?
We actually got some cooler weather here, okay... in the 50's, but it was overcast and damp from the rain the night before so we felt chilled. After 99 degrees a week ago, I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteMurder at the Brightwell sounds like a good read. Didn't know it was Sci-Fi Month in November. Good for you for participating, and in NaNoWriMo too. Am I allowed to ask what genre you are writing in, or are you keeping that close to the vest for now? Good luck with everything this month--sounds like you are in for a great few weeks.
I like 50's, maybe a little warmer would be good... but yeah 99 wouldn't work for me. :)
DeleteBrightwell was a good read, if you like a period mystery I think it's a good pick. As for my , I'm writing a fantasy with a YA focus. It's very early stages so I don't even know what's going to happen yet- but I appreciate the well wishes. I'll probably need them!
Sounds like you have a lot or writing projects to keep you very busy.
ReplyDeleteI'm not looking forward to cooler weather. The short burst of winter we're having on the Gulf Coast hopefully will move on soon. I do like that I have more time for reading though. Not so much time being spent on yard work:)
Here's my Sunday Post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2014/11/02/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-85-and-the-sunday-post/
I guess I do, at the moment! Hopefully I can keep up with it all. :) Less yard work is nice... I was talking to someone who was in Florida yesterday and they said it was in the 40's there too. Yikes.
DeleteEnjoy NaNoWriMo...it was a great experience for me in 2010 when I did it. Completed it at 52,000+ words...and then went on to finish the manuscript...and published the book this year (Interior Designs).
ReplyDeleteI loved the challenge of having to write something every day.
Enjoy your reading this month...I am not much for SciFi, but I hope you have fun. Thanks for visiting my blog.
I appreciate that- and it's good to hear of your experience. I'm looking forward to it, and I know it will be a challenge. If I was smart i would let the blog slide a bit and concetrate on the writing- but I like blogging to much. So we'll see how I do, but it will be good I'm sure.
DeleteThere is a very small chance that I am a little jealous of your snow. lol I can't wait for the cold chilly weather and the snowy nights.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with NaNoWriMo, I wish I can get a solid story in my head otherwise I would have joined this year but I just have a lot going on but maybe next year.
Have a great week, Greg!!!
I have to admit, I enjoyed seeing the snow coming down (but only because it didn't stick around). It was mixed with rain, and blustery- it was actually kinda cool! I do like winter and the cooler temps -as long as it doesn't get TOO cold. :)
DeleteI'm looking forward to your review of Murder at the Brightwell. It looks good.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
It was a good one- thought should be up on tuesday. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteSci-Fi Month. Hmm.. Interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteHere's mine:
NYZE@everythingnyze
It should be fun! Thank you for stopping... :)
DeleteGood luck with NaNoWriMo I hope you achieve your goal.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Greg.
Thank you Sharon, appreciate that. It will be a challenge but i think it will be fun too.
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed Murder at the Brightwell. I thought it was really good and I hope she writes more. I just got Her Royal Spyness from the library. I have been wanting to read this series for some time now after I read a novella.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with NaNoWriMo! Several of my coworkers are writers and usually participate. It sound like it can be really motivational.
I read a Rhys Bowen book back when I just started blogging and wasn't a big fan but I do have this one on my TBR pile so I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of this one.
ReplyDeleteMy It's Monday! Post
-Kimberly @ Turning the Pages
Argh! We've had a heatwave here in Queensland Australia - 35-40C in Spring! I hate to think what summer's going to be like!
ReplyDeleteHot hot hot! I like it warm but not super hot... our summer this year was mild, and I kinda liked it! Have a great week.
DeleteI always love Peanuts. Thanks, and enjoy your reading week!
ReplyDeleteHere's my It's Monday!
Me too, it's always fun! Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteCan't wait for your review of Murder at the Brightwell... sounds like a mystery I would love. Good luck with NaNoWriMo!
ReplyDeleteReview should be up tomorrow! Thank you JoAnn.
DeleteNaNoWriMo! I have always wanted to do that too! Maybe I will give it a go as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd the weather this Halloween!! So crazy!
SciFi month sounds fun! I think I used to read more science fiction in high school. There was a big Star Wars universe phase....:)
ReplyDeleteI was into science fiction when I was younger too, not so much now but I still do some and I think this month will be fun!
DeleteYou have a busy schedule for this month but I am looking forward to your NanoWriMo posts. I've never participated so I can't wait to see what you share with us! And have fun with the readathon! I am supposed to participate but my parents are visiting. Hopefully I'll have time to read some holiday themed books. Have a great week Greg!! And stay warm =)
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be a busy month, especially towards the end with Thanksgiving and everything- but we'll see how it goes. NaNo has been good for me so far, as it's forced me to tighten up what I already had and get some writing done. I appreciate the thoughts, have a great week!
DeleteEnjoy SciFi Month! I'm participating in Nonfiction November so that's what's driving MY reading this month :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer! That sounds interesting, I'll have to look into that...
