Sunday Post #59
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
It's a long weekend! This week was good, I finished two books and got a few reviews up. Will be linking to COYER today. With autumn fast approaching I'm starting to get in the mood for those kind of reads. You know, mysteries and stuff with more of an edge to it. I'm thinking of joining the Frightfall readathon and maybe doing some things like that this year. Do your reading tastes change with the seasons?
Hope everyone has a happy and safe Labor Day weekend!
CURRENTLY READING:
NEW ARRIVALS/ UPCOMING REVIEWS:
BLOGOSPHERE FUN:
Late Night Lamplight has a nice review of Divergent. Yeah it's been reviewed a zillion times, but if I wasn't already planning on reading it, this might have convinced me. Nice blog too.
Book Den has a review for And Then There Were none by Agatha Christie. I've never read this so I'm going to pick it up. And hey, Clue movie reference!
Jo at Mixed Book Bag has a review up for the new robin Hobb book Fool's Assassin. Fitz is back! I'll be reading this soon. Love that cover too.
Lisa Loves Literature reviews Get Even by Gretchen McNeil. Nice review, and I'm looking forward to this one. The premise just sounds fun.
Book Journey reviews The Cherry Cola Book Club.
Some fun cosplay this week. A steampunk Frozen, Aquaman (Aquawoman actually- wow), and Rocketeer girl?
So how was your week?
I loved Longbourn and I liked Divergent. I am curious to see what you thought of We Were Liars. Have a great Labor Day weekend!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the chance to make it out to the lakeshore it sounds like the perfect setting to read.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I read Jules Verne as a teen, long time ago ;) I'd like to see if you loved Divergent or not. Enjoy your sunday :)
ReplyDeleteI liked the movie Divergent so I imagine I'll like the book as well, especially the extra details. Looking forward to delving into it! Have a great weekend!
DeleteMy book club is reading We Were Liars this month. I am glad no one has talked about the ending and that it will be a surprise for me. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!! YEAH!
ReplyDeleteThat's a GREAT book club pick, I can imagine a wide range of reactions to that one. Hope you like it. And yes to 20,000 Leagues- I love that cover and am looking forward to finally reading it.
DeleteThat is so funny that you said that about your mood for reading changing with the season. I just realized that recently that it's starting to get fall and I need something a little more intense and maybe even spooky for fall. I really thought I was the only one!
ReplyDeleteI think I might check out the Frightfall read-a-thon!
Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading :)
Thank you Michelle! I've been kinda bummed about summer being over, but then I realized that fall is almost here and I love that time of year- and I do tend towards mysteries and that kinda stuff in the fall. I think Frightfall looks great, I did her summer readathon last year and it was fun.
DeleteHope you have a great Labor Day!
I like that cover for the Jules Verne book. Happy reading and enjoy your long weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou too Bea! I like that cover too, finally going to take the plunge with that one. Ha ha! Hope your weekend is good as well.
DeleteI'm currently reading And Then There Were None so I'm excited to read the link you posted to the review! Hope you like Divergent. Happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteI need to read that book, I really haven't read much Christie. Definitely going to pick it up though, I hope you share your thoughts on it when you're done. Happy reading, and thank you for visiting.
DeleteMy reading taste does not really change that much, but i'm always interested in reading other genres even though it's all only a mere talk :P
ReplyDeletei've been wanting to read Divergent since the uproar from the movie. Maybe someday i'll get the book on my hand.
Hope you'll enjoy your week, Greg!
My reading tastes have been all over the map lately, from cozies to historicals and YA. I guess blogging has exposed me to books I wouldn't have even seen otherwise. I feel the same way about Divergent, I wasn't sure what to expect of the movie and actually liked it. So now my expectations are high I guess! Hope you get to it soon as well!
DeleteI have never thought about reading seasonally. I wear different clothes for the seasons, and generally switch from red to white wines in the spring and summer. But, do I change reads? Other than the Halloween and Holiday Season reads I don't think so. But then again, I read what publishers send or what is on NetGalley or Edelweiss.
ReplyDeleteLongbournn hasn't crossed my radar, but I am sort of on a download diet.
You know, I never really did either in terms of seasonal reading. Only lately have I noticed a trend towards certain kinds of reads. Funny... I'm a mood reader though and don't really do ARC's, so it definitely goes according to my moods. :)
DeleteLongbourn seems interesting to me, I'm curious about it. I'm not really the target audience as I haven't really read Austen, but what the hey.
Divergent and Longbourn are still in my reading piles--looks like you'll be enjoying them long before I will. Have a wonderful weekend--savor those moments at the lake before the leaves begin to fall.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday/Monday post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2014/08/weekly-book-recap-80.html
Thank you Catherine, you as well. I'm kinda glad to be getting to Divergent now, seems like the right time to check it out. :) Longbourn might be a few books down the road but we'll see. I hope you have a great holiday weekend as well.
DeleteYes! Read And Then There Were None! I look forward to seeing what you think of We Were Liars. I know opinions have been all over the map. I have noticed that the closer we get into September I'm definitely reaching for more mysteries than lighter fiction. I had never really paid attention before but my reading does change somewhat. Great books this week! Longbourn is on my TBR and I have a Verne on my Classics list.
ReplyDeleteWe Were Liars has certainly generated a lot of discussion..and obviously the stunning ending must be kept under wraps! Wouldn't want anyone to miss that feeling of being blindsided.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your weekend.
Oh isn't Longburn having something to do with Jane Austen? I think I have that on my wishlist. Enjoy your long weekend and happy reading.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think it's from the perspective of the servants. Not really the target audience since I haven't read a lot of Austen, but I'm curious for some reason. We'll see about that one... :)
DeleteI read the Divergent series so I'm curious to see what you think of it. I love the cover of Rise of the Arcane Fire and I really want to start that series soon. I hope you enjoy your long weekend and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am sad Coyer is almost over, I'll hope to finish oen or two more books before my recap post this friday.
ReplyDeleteAre you enjoying Divergent so far? I loved the first book, was a bit dissapointed by the second book and still haven't read the third book.
My reading sort off changes with the seasons, I usually read more contemporary romances in summer, but beside that I am not sure if there's a trend.
I'll be sad to see COYER go too, there have been some great reviews this time. I've just started Divergent so not sure yet but I have high hopes, think I'm going to like it a lot. I normally would rather read the book first, but since I've seen the movie I'm kinda glad t ohave the background...
DeleteGreat that you've started on Divergent...looking forward to the review as well as the We Were Liars next week. I didn't really like We Were Liars...will you get into spoilers? Because everyone seem to be talking about the supposed great ending but not really talking about it and which I didn't find all that great after reading.
ReplyDeleteWandering through the Shelves
I don’t think my reading tastes change depending on the seasons. I intend to go through genre phase’s more than seasonal ones. Having said that, with Halloween coming up, I am eying more horror books… LOL! Hope you love Divergent! Have a great week, and happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteThe only time I really think my reading taste changes is when fall approaches... for some reason I like mysteries and edgier stuff this time of year. The rest of the year, I just read whatever. :) So I'm kinda with you there actually.
DeleteI'm hoping to like Divergent, and having seen the movie I was really curious to see what happened next, so I guess jumping into this series now I'll be able to find out!
Enjoy your new reads. Always love seeing the classics being reviewed. :)

I hope to. I really need to read more classics, so maybe this is a good start! :)
DeleteThanks for linking the Frightfall readathon. I'm looking for some blog events like that to join for October. I'm hoping to do a horror month!
ReplyDeleteI like to read books set at the beach during the summer (but failed on that this year) and horror in October, but other than that, I don't do much seasonal reading. I don't read wintery books in winter, for example, and I'm not really into holiday books for December either.
That sounds good, I'm kinda heading i that direction too- some autumny reads now that fall is almost here. I think Frightfall will be a lot of fun. This is about the only time of year when I feel a definite need to read a certain kind of book, although last year I did feel like Christmas- y stories, and that was kind of a first.
DeleteThe Frightfall readathon looks interesting. I'll have to check it out. I don't think my reading tastes change, but I do like to read holiday themed books in November and December. I, also, like scarier books for October.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great week!
I felt like Christmas-y stuff too last year towards the end of the year, which was kind of new for me. And I think Frightfall will be fun, Michelle seems to run a good readathon.
DeleteYou have some gorgeous book covers there this week. I hope you enjoy them! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping, hope you're having a great holiday weekend.
DeleteI liked Divergent. It was a good book. I'll be looking forward to your thoughts, Greg.
ReplyDeleteGreat steampunk Frozen picture. It's amazing what Cosplayers come up with. I am not nearly THAT talented.

Second Run Reviews
Thank you Terri. I'm looking forward to reviewing it.
DeleteIt's always amazing the cosplay they seem to find on that site. :)
I finally read Divergent this summer after my daughter couldn't put down the books and devoured them. Are you liking it?
ReplyDeleteI've just started it but so far I do like it, it reads quick and I'm intrigued. Normally I read the book first, but in this case having sen the movie I feel like I have an inside slant on where the story is going ha ha! I think I'm going to like it...
DeleteI'm yet to read Divergent - not sure if it's my sort of novel (I like mystery / thriller / crime fiction). I'm also a tad worried about Longbourn as - though I loved P & P I really hated PD James's Death at Pemberley so am worried someone else might butcher my P & P memories! It does sound tempting though! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about Divergent either, to be honest. I saw the movie on a lark and actually liked it, so that got me thinking I should read the series.
DeleteI can see your point about Longbourn, I've read very little Austen, but if I were an Austen fan I would definitely be leery of books like this! I hope she adds to the story without leaving a sour taste among those who've enjoyed P&P.
I'm undecided about reading Longbourne, friends have either loved or hated it. Looking forward to your review of We Were Liars. Have a good week & happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying Divergent. I really liked The Rise of the Arcane.Fire. Enjoy your holiday. :)
ReplyDeleteI am liking Divergent so far, and if all goes well maybe I'll read all three at once. Glad to hear secret Order #2 is good, I liked Clockwork Key and am looking forward to the next one.
DeleteHey, thanks for the shout out! :) I look forward to your thoughts on Divergent. I liked the book - still haven't managed to watch the movie.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I think Divergent is going to be fun to review- of course most people will already know all about it, but organizing my thoughts I think as a relative latecomer will be interesting. And having seen the movie, I'm already curious what's outside the fence, even though I've barely started book one!
DeleteI recently watched Divergent. I read the book when it first came out. Now I want to read Insurgent and Allegiant which are already on my Kindle. I'll have to see if I can fit them in around a stack of review books. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI know,, I'll probably want to read the next two after finishing Divergent, so it;s a bit of a time commitment for me, but if I like 'em it's all good I guess. Did you like the movie? I did for the most part, but afterI read the book I'll have a better idea of how they did...
DeleteI'd like to read Through the Door, a quiet overlooked book that seems pretty cool. I've read and enjoyed Divergent so I hope you will like it also. I still haven't gotten around to We Were Liars, don't know why I haven't read it yet but will.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the long weekend with the family!
Thank Rita, hope you like it when you get to it. I'll have a review on Thursday for it. I'm liking Divergent a lot so far...
DeleteI have Longbourn and We Were Liars on reserve at the library so I'll have to check how you like them both! I hope you have a great week, Greg.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan, hope you're having a great weekend. I'm curious about Longbourn, with all the country house stories I've been reading lately , and hope to get to it soon.
DeleteCounterfeit Lady looks like great fun! I hope you are enjoying Divergent. I like your variety in reading. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI am actually enjoying Divergent a lot! And Counterfeit LAdy is really good, I recommend it highly. I do tend to have eclectic taste, sometimes a cozy, sometimes a YA...
DeleteLooks like some interesting reads! Rutherford Park sounds good even if you didn't love the sequel. Hope you like 20000 Leagues, I had trouble getting through that one, but I just read a great review of Around the World so maybe I started with the wrong Verne book. I think Divergent the book is much better than the movie!
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Rutherford PArk , liked it a lot, and I;m hopeful about 20000 Leagues although I know the writing style might be a little archaic and may present some problems that way. We'll see...
DeleteMaybe your review will convince me one way or another on reading Divergent. I'm usually wary of YA and almost always wary of books that get a ton of hype.
ReplyDeleteI hope you and the family had an awesome weekend!
I'm really liking Divergent so far, surprised myself! The pages are turning... the hype kinda turned me off for a while too, but I have to say I'm enjoying it.
