Feature & Follow Friday #5
Feature and Follow is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read
This week's question: Share something you've learned about book blogging or just blogging in general in the last month.
Wow, where to start? I've only been doing this for about 2 months so I've learned a lot. One thing I've learned is there are some very nice blogs out there, and mine is a little... basic. I'm thankful to everyone who comes by and comments even though my blog isn't exactly the most visually striking one out there. So... I'm going to invest in a custom design at some point, I think. I don't know all the coding stuff so I'll probably hire it done... so if you design blogs or know anyone who's good let me know. :)
Of course I know that content is as important as design, and I'm trying to put good content up. I've discovered that writing reviews really changes how I look at books, and how I read them too. I've never taken notes on books before but I do that now on occasion. And of course meeting and chatting with other bloggers has been a tremendous learning experience.
I feel the same about design. But have to remind myself that a basic looking blog, that is easy to navigate (and that doesnt take forever to load) are awesome and appreciated too.
ReplyDeleteDesign I find is quite important, but sometimes the most simplest are the best and you focus more on the content than on the design :0)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the follow and stopping by, I am now following you too :)
I think the same thing as Jenna :D Simple is always easy. It's important desing but whatever I can even choose my desing.I always changing :D Basically I'm playing my blog because I'm bored always. Anyway Here's my blog I liked your blog anyway you can learn HTML thing :D Because I'm learning :D

I know that Giselle over at Xpresso Reads used to design for other bloggers. Even if she doesn't still do that, she may have some recommendations.
ReplyDeleteI'm like others, though, and have kind of decided to go simple. I find that pretty blogs are nice to look at, but what I'm really there for are the posts, especially the reviews. So, in the end, it all comes down to you and what you want for your blog. :) Good luck!

Great answer Greg, I'm following via GFC. I actually think content is more important than design, as long as it's simple and easy to read then it's great :) I think Parajunkee does designs, but I think there's a huge backlog there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my F&F!

I'm eventually going to hire someone to design a custom template for me. I'm not the best with design.

There might be a lot of nice blogs out there but you can still stand out as long as you make your presence felt on the book blogging community. I've noticed that there are some "basic" blogs out there getting lots and lots of comments because they do not only put up good content but they are also very religious on commenting everywhere. :D Yeah, comments beget comments.
ReplyDeleteWhat I noticed is that people are more likely to comment if you have discussion posts. Try to join discussion memes.
As for design, here are some bloggers that I can recommend:
Parajunkee's Design (Blogger and Wordpress)
Xpresso Design (Blogger)
Tynga's Designs (Blogger)
Butterfly-O-Meter Designs (Blogger and Wordpress)
Designer Blogs (Blogger and Wordpress
Creative Whim (Wordpress)
Thanks for the follow, following you back!
Hey Greg.... my sister has just started her own business, but has been building blogs and websites for a while now. You can visit her here .... http://outstandingwebsitedesign.com.au/ She set up my blog initially and has just recently redesigned it. But you can see her other projects there too.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanx for visiting my FF! Have an awesome week!
Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
Thanks Naomi. I will look into her site definetly...
DeleteI agree about the design. I don't love my design either, and I was supposed to get a custom one done, but then the person who was going to do it, stopped, so I am stuck with the one I have until I'm willing to pony up the $$ to hire someone to do a much better job than I can. Thanks for visiting my FF. New bloglovin follower.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Sorry to hear about the design issue, that's not good. :( Hope it works out for you, I'll have to do something eventually too...
