Sunday Post #405

So I went out to dinner and some dude asked me on the way in- "Masks? Really?" And I was like yeah really. I may have said something else too. I didn't get nasty but can't we eat out now without anti- mask assholes?

In other news I started Panic this week- is anyone watching? I'm a big fan of the Lauren Oliver book so I'll be recapping the episodes- my first one went up Thursday. If you're enjoying the show let me know. I also posted a new story called The Escape- it's actually a repost from 2018 but it felt especially relevant given how Maia's story concluded. Although since several of you expressed an interest in Maia's story I'm thinking of continuing it. And this night walk is awesome.

This walk is a livestream and I like the police station in the beginning- I wonder if they have less predatory cops- and I love 1:33:48.

I'm liking the idea of sharing a tweet occasionally to generate discussion.

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

BOOKISH LINKS

  1. I've never read LAuren Oliver but I want to so bad especially since I've heard such great htings about her books! And yikes, I'm in a pretty red area but the folks around me are mostly the live and let live libertarians who couldn't care less what people decide for themselves with regards to masks. Why can't people just respect others' choices without being mouthy?

  2. It never ceases to amaze me how people feel entitled to walk up to strangers and say whatever they want. They don't know about health issues, or how about you just felt like wearing one because it matched your outfit, Gorgeous Greg?! I saw the listing for Panic,(haven't seen yet) but I dove knee deep into my boyfriend Jason Statham's latest, Wrath of Man, and yes, I watched it 3 times!(lol) Then I had to watch Cruella which was just so dang fun. Also, even though I'm not a fan of horror movies, I did check out Spiral because Chris Rock was starring in it, along with Samuel Jackson in a guest role. Let me just say that the ending was a shocker for sure. Hope you have a cool, safe and wonderful weekend! Hugs, RO

  3. Have you heard about the California vaccine lottery? The state is awarding people the chance to win either $50K or $1.5 million if you've been vaccinated or will get vaccinated before June 15th. Sadly I have not won yet😥 But I wonder if that strategy is going to work to get more people to do it.

  4. There are actually lots of places around here that still require masks, and I know my husband and I will still be wearing them for awhile even in places where it's not "required." Still seeing lots of people wearing them. People need to mind their business!

  5. "And I was like yeah really. I may have said something else too."
I hope you did! I mean, what makes people think they have a right to up and speak their mind about other people's choices (especially strangers)?

  6. I hate that anti-mask sentiment. It's not like you're hurting anyone with your choice to wear a mask. So why do they care?

    ReplyDelete
  7. It irritates me that people think they have the right to tell others not to wear a mask if they still want to. Mind your business, right?

  8. My daughter told me Panic was good. I read the book years ago, but have not watched the show. I am impressed that they were able to stretch it into a series.

  9. I'm really not looking forward to when I've had my second vaccination and I start going out in public more. I WILL be wearing a mask even so... and I'm not going to have much patience with anti-maskers. (I'm literally studying for a degree in infectious diseases! I wear a mask for very well considered reasons, heh.)

  10. We're still wearing masks as well. I think people are ditching them prematurely. We've both had out complete dose but you never can tell what variant will pop up next. I watched all of Panic in three days. I never read the book and never wanted to but I have to admit I found the show quite entertaining. I really like Ray which is scary right?

  11. Ugh, why does it bother people so much if other people want to do something that doesn't harm anyone in any way? I haven't seen Panic, but glad you're enjoying it! I'll have to get caught up on Maia's story.

  12. OMG.. I really don't understand why people are being so horrible at times. I mean there are still people out there thinking COVID is something made up by the goverment! Really? If only they could have a look inside the hospitals and see what this thing is doing to people. Blegh..
Have a great week Greg and happy reading.

  13. No thoughts and prayers for that guy

  14. Wow, that TruNews clip is something else! "Tru" news, lol. I will never understand conspiracy-theory mentality.

  15. I didn't know that Panic was a show. I guess now I'll have to read it so I can watch! LOL!

  16. I am glad you held your restraint. I wont have. I hope things dont get too laxed in the US

  17. Ugh, that would be so annoying when someone just comes up to you to make a comment like that. Can't people just mind their own businesses?
Also, I had no idea Panic was being made in a TV show! I read the book years ago, but I'm super intrigued by seeing the story on screen so I'll need to check it out!

  18. Yeah my thoughts about that TruNews guy are not charitable, nor about the anti-masker.

Wishing you a great reading week

  19. I didn't know they made a show of Panic! I'll have to check that out because I like Lauren Oliver books as well. Hope you have a good week!

  20. You can come visit me here in SA. We are still strictly under masks..! That tweet was funny, I think there are a lot of those people doing the rounds. I really just want to get the vaccine...

Hope you will have a good week ahead Greg. I've been a bit quiet, I suspect the upcoming week might not be much better. But hey, that's life!

  21. People are assholes! If someone wants to wear a mask that's their business. I will have to continue to wear a mask at work (hospital) and I think a lot of businesses will continue to make you wear a mask to enter. Although I hear in other states you don't have to wear a mask in Walmart now. You still do in California. Our mask order doesn't get lifted until June 15th.

That tweet is something else! What a bunch of hogwash.

  22. I have (vacinated) relatives staying with me this week and even that is giving me some anxiety but we've all worn masks everywhere we go still.

Most people do around here though. I think our mandate ends June 30th though. Right now it's vaccinated can go without and in WA (where I live) it's the honor system but in OR (I'm on the border) you need to show proof so almost everyone still asks you to.

  23. I think we'll still kepp the mask for a long time Greg!

  24. My husband and I are still wearing masks. While the percentage of vaccinated adults is pretty good in Virginia, it's definitely lower in my county and some of the neighboring ones, and that doesn't give me much confidence to go without my mask. I am hoping to get together with friends who are vaccinated, though... assuming they are also still taking precautions.

  25. Wow, that's awful about the mask comments at the restaurant. I'm sometimes wonder if I'll ever feel comfortable in public places without masks ever again.

Where are you watching Panic? I haven't seen it anywhere - never read the books but I've been interested.

    Have a great week!

  26. Wearing masks in grocery stores and other indoor crowded places, but not outdoors, at least not in out town.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I hate when anti-maskers make comments like that. If they don't want to wear one, fine. But, why criticize someone who does? I'm fully vaccinated but still wear a mask inside. Plus, some places still require one.

I'll have to check out Panic.

Hope you have a great week!

  28. Ugh I wish some people would have learned the important life skill of minding their own business! Grr Hope you have a great week!

  29. Have you played Geoguesser? It seems like something you'd like and you can play one round a day for free. Basically you get dropped into a street view somewhere in the world and try and find clues to guess where you are. It's my new obsession. Have a great week!

  30. I ignore anyone who must comment on my mask. Although I am vaccinated, I just feel better wearing it in public.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I still find it jarring to see people without masks. Of course, mask wearing is still widely done here, so those who don't wear masks really stand out. The worst reaction I've had to wearing a mask was from family, so that sucked. Sigh.... - Melinda @ A Web of Stories

  32. The anti-maskers can be truly annoying! Even though the vaccinated people where I live are allowed to sit together at tables, unmasked, we still wear them when we go out.

I hope you have a great week...and avoid annoying people! Thanks for visiting my blog.

  33. I just discovered lo-fi beats this week. I had no idea that it was great music for writing! I've been feeling way more productive writing to these beats. I can't believe this hasn't been in my life sooner.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

  34. My family and I are still wearing our masks every time we leave the house. I salute your calm response, Greg.
Hope you have a good week and continue to enjoy watching Panic.

  35. I still wear my mask frequently especially in crowded places. No one has commented yet. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I know what you mean about the anti-maskers. People are still pretty good about wearing them here, but we do get some stares and weird looks from those few when we wear ours. I don't know why people just can't mind their own business.

I didn't know Panic was a book! My daughter and I keep seeing the trailer for it every time we go to the movies. It looks so good! I'll have to read it!

  37. Here it took a while to wear masks, but then within a week everyone did and if someone does not, stink eye

    ReplyDelete
  38. So much odd thinking about with masks and anti vaccine people. We only have to wear them on transport as we don't have community transmission - yet anyway! Vaccine outreach is slow so hopefully doesn't creep in while we await our turn.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am fully vaccinated and absolutely still wear a mask in public. First and foremost, Eleanor is too young to be vaccinated and we will continue wearing masks. Secondly, I live in a super red state surrounded by a bunch of morons who refused to wear masks to begin with, so I'm pretty sure none of them got vaccinated - you know, since it's a hoax an all *eyeroll*.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We unfortunately have lots of anti mask assholes here too. I don't understand why they don't just mind their own business.

    ReplyDelete
  41. About the Tweet: just can't understand why people still think that way. And I've seen some really hideous videos recently which draw parallels between scary mutations and vaccines. Seriously, why??!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I usually try to be a nice person and live and let live. However, I'll admit to wishing that some (or several) high-profile anti-makser/anti-vax folks would die from Covid. (un)Fortunately they've gotten a lot better at treating it and your chances of dying even if you get it are far less than a year ago.

    ReplyDelete
  43. How about you wear your mask or whatever makes you comfortable and everyone else shuts the heck up? Jesus. Yes, you wore your mask and that other person should just shut their piehole. I'm looking up this Panic show right now. :)

  44. Haven't seen Panic yet. But plan to give it a go.

  45. My son is fully vaccinated and he still masks. I'm still waiting for more people to get vaccinated because we need photo ID to get jabbed here in NYS and mine is expired. I don't want to go to the DMV until more people have been vaccinated. 😛

Tots and pears for the minister with Covid. 🙄

I hope you had a great week. 🌞

  46. I am sorry you were harassed like that when you went out to eat. I'm expecting more of that here with my state lifting most of its restrictions next week. I haven't read anything by Lauren Oliver but would like to.

I hope you have a great weekend, Greg.
