Last week I posted a walking tour and mistakenly listed it as a livestream with chat- it didn't actually have the chat though. Virtual Japan is one of my favorite streamers and he does do live chats- so this week I included a couple. This one is awesome- a bit long but some of the highlights are Odaiba (waterfront area) and the huge Gundam statue.

ReplyDeleteAww, I miss the art pieces this week! And oh you, CDC. Considering it's been only one week between that tweet and their updated mask guidelines yesterday, is it any wonder why this once respected public health institution has lost credibility with so many people over the past year. I'm definitely not as cynical as that person though, they ascribe to malice what I would probably chalk up to general incompetence and trying to "save face" - coincidentally enough, I think NYT had a follow-up opinion piece I saw the other day, which also alluded to that.

ReplyDeleteRegardless of what comes out - especially relating to the new masks-are-not-required-anymore thing - Eleanor and I will continue to wear them. I am vaccinated but she is not and we are going to continue to take precautions to keep her safe - and our family members as well who are not fully vaccinated yet.

Is anyone else as tired of the CDC's missteps as me? Their conclusions and recommendations seem so out of touch with reality and the rest of the country these days.
ReplyDeleteGreeeeeg! How are you? I am really, really over COVID and everything it entails. People suck. The virus sucks. Masks suck (my poor nose is being rubbed raw). It's hard on the kids.

Can't say I'm surprised about the CDC's "revelation". From Monday, masks are no longer compulsory in most places and we can eat indoors at restaurants again. I will be keeping my mask on until I've been vaccinated. I work in a school where viruses can be spread easily and some of my colleagues are in the vulnerable category.

ReplyDeleteOy so the CDC and I are not friends this week, as you know. Like. "It's definitely airborne but here, throw your mask away even though like 12 people are vaccinated". 🤬🤬 All I have seen and heard in the last few days are problems, problems everywhere.
Love the cover for When Murder Waits! I'm kind of done with the CDC as it seems like they're all over the place and it changes regularly. I trust my son's doctors and that's about it. Luckily almost all of my extended family is now officially vaccinated or at least halfway there so that makes me breathe a bit easier. And the vaccine has become pretty easy to get here which also helps. I hope you have a great week!

ReplyDeleteI am a recovered Covid person and still have to wear a mask, keep my distance from others while being in a shop or supermarket and have to use disinfectant no matter where I am. And that will be the case as long as we don´t have the so-called herdimmunity here in Germany. Happy reading, Greg!
ReplyDeleteThe ups and downs of the news reports seem typical, don't they? We still have to wear masks in my residence, even though most of us are vaccinated. But I'm kind of used to them now! I'm happy we can go to restaurants again.

Wow - the Tokyo videos are always so amazing! Ahh I too am very tired of the back and forth with regulatory bodies on Covid. Seems there is always a new angle :( Glad to hear that many US states are opening up though, hopefully we follow suit up here in Canada lol!
ReplyDeleteThis is what happens when non-science people try to control science people. Now the CDC has to try and regain their place and it's going to be so hard now that people rather listen to non science then actual science.

Well from the start I maintained a very wide distance with other unmasked people because I didn't believe what they told us... so i's not a surprise ;-)
ReplyDeleteI guess I just always assumed it was transmitted through the air? I mean, why else would we have to wear masks? Although the complete turnaround on masks seems to have come so quickly.

ReplyDeleteI tend to do what I think is best for me...I'm still wearing a mask even though I'm fully vaccinated. I'm hearing too many things about people testing positive even though they were vaccinated. It's crazy.

ReplyDeleteI always enjoy the videos you share! I figure we will see how things turn out with no masks in a month or so. (ie will number continue to decline or will we have a spike?) We are all vaccinated at my house so that is a big relief.

ReplyDeleteAll I know is that every time they reopened restaurants at 50% capacity our numbers, especially hospitalizations, went back up drastically. They would shutdown the restaurants for three weeks and then start all over again like they had learned nothing. 😐

I think the virus being airborne is one of the reasons people here caught it from others while they were in hotel quarantine. Have a great week Greg.
ReplyDeleteWhat that statement by the CDC makes clear is politics played a bigger part in their CDC advice than science. It’s been obvious almost from the beginning, even to a lay person, that the virus is airborne. ‘Sigh’

My takeaway from the CDC announcement is that vaccinated people are very unlikely to get the virus indoors/outdoors/masked/unmasked and that masks are not really necessary. I’m happy about that, though I am sad for those who haven’t been vaccinated.

ReplyDeleteThat tweet is interesting. It seemed so obvious that the virus was airborne---otherwise, why bother with masks? Whatever. I guess I'm just glad that we're starting to see light at the end of the COVID tunnel.

The CDC and their many about-faces have me somewhat hesitant to even believe them now about it being safe to take your mask off in public places if you're vaccinated. I'm kind of like "Okay, you go first and maybe I'll join in later if it seems safe." LOL!

ReplyDeleteIt is throwing me off, this change with masks! We are going out in public with them, especially since Wyatt will have to continue to wear one, so we will too. We are starting to slowly see relatives who are fully vaccinated though and it has been so nice. I got to hug my mom after a year! My dad is next!
ReplyDeleteOh, I didn't even realize the CDC never acknowledged that it was spread through airborne transmission. It seemed obvious to me after that super spreader event with the choir in Washington state early on in the pandemic. I read an article about it somewhere that said the attendees were at least socially distanced. I can't remember if they were masked. But that article was an open letter from a few hundred scientists around the world, making the case that the virus is airborne. It made sense to me.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were talking about the new guidelines. We don't feel particularly compelled to continue wearing masks outside since we avoid crowds anyway but we'll continue wearing them inside.
