It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

Do you ever just sit and watch the world? I was thinking this week how sometimes I'll sit and watch the birds or watch the rain come down on the skylights. I would never have done that when I was younger! There was always something to be doing, no time to sit around! It's funny how our priorities change as we get older. This week I have walking tours of an underground mall and an awesome shrine. Also Stephanie Jane was kind enough to send me her book Finally A Vegan: My Journey to Veganuary and beyond. As an aspiring vegan I am super interested in this and can't wait to give it a read. :) As far as reading goes, I'm still reading Songs of the Deep and am almost finished!

I saw this cool post about Soylent Green and dystopians here

Also I posted my fourth Dystopia Playlist this week. You can find it here

And lastly (there's a lot this week) for those interested in games or visual novels I came across this. I love the message.

  1. Oh man, I miss LOTRO. The player-made music system is so robust in that game, I'm not surprised that people frequently organize concerts. When I still played, there was a music festival called Weatherstock they would hold at the summit of Weathertop on my old server Landroval every year. It was epic, but so was the server lag, lol. I think they still do it annually.

  2. A nice concert at Bree followed by a cold pint or two in The Prancing Pony sounds like a good night out to me!

  3. Many thanks for sharing the Kifune shrine video, it's a wonderful change of scenery and such a peaceful virtual visit :) Oh, Moebius, he's French ^^ Welcome to veganuary, if you're in need of a tried and approved vegan cookie recipe, I've got one. Enjoy your week-end !

  4. Kitaro I've heard and liked before -- all thanks to you for recommending it. :) But Soylent Green, I am yet to watch that.

  5. I had to look up "vaporwave" LOL. I'm so old. Seriously, there seem to be all these music genres and subgenres, and I'm just...😵

"As far as reading goes, I'm still reading Songs of the Deep and am almost finished!"
I hope it was worth the long anticipation LOL.

I love the amount of details that went into Top Floor Landing.

  6. Working from home, I get to sit in front of my window all day. I LOVE IT! We had snow showers yesterday, which were pretty to watch. Good luck with your vegan journey. That takes some commitment.

  7. I love to just sit and watch the rain or snow fall. It's so peaceful! Sometimes it's nice to just take a moment to breathe.

  8. Being still and just watching the world is so soothing sometimes.

  9. I always love your weekend posts! Enjoy watching the world this weekend. :D

  10. Nowadays, it's harder to watch the world go by in the comfort of your home. Not only because it doesn't feel the same, but also, the bad things out there are just too difficult to watch.

    Have a great weekend, Greg!

  11. The Where Are We Going image made me chuckle, thanks. 😆

I am also an aspiring vegan. I have the dairy part done, except for once a month when we have pizza, but I am having trouble with the eggs part when baking. I just bought an egg substitute for baking, but I haven't tried it yet. And then there is my fish. I only eat it once a week, but I love it so much. 😛

There is so much interesting stuff in your post this week I will have to come back and watch some of the videos. 👏👏👏

Have a wonderful new week! 🌞

  12. I haven't reached that point yet--there's always something that needs doing. I miss when my daughter was younger we'd go outside and lay on the grass and stare up at the tree together, making up stories about the shapes the clouds made. Sometimes I need to remind myself to stop and live in the moment. It's a good place to be. I do find I like the quiet more now, as I get older though. It's calming.

I hope you have a great week, Greg!

  13. I like to watch the world as well. Love watching clouds go by. We had a lot of them this weekend with rain a mist. So pretty against the green hills. Love watching animals, too.

I don't think I've every heard of vaporwave inspired music, lol! Maybe I am old. :)

  14. I can sit and observe the world outside my window for hours. Not as much as Elza though. She will sit on the window sill and make funny sounds to anything she doesn't understand. I have a lovely view over the ocean from the study and I can watch the sea for hours. At school I hardly have time to look at my watch though!

Have a good week Greg and take care of yourself.

  15. I am glad you are able to finally enjoy the small things in life! I am still not there but maybe soon enough. Stay safe!

  16. I loved listening to Stayin' Alive...and I'm a fan of Hobbiton. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  17. Yes... it's lovely to be able to sit still and watch the world going by:). I often find it helps me sort out plot points and story ideas, too. Have a lovely week, Greg.

  18. Never been much of a sit outside and watch things kind of person. Enjoy your Vegan book, I like meat to much to try and go that way...lol...although with all this talk about making genetically altered meats or whatever they are wanting to do with it, it might make me lean that way...lol.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  19. It is the little things that make life livable these days. I am not a vegan or intending to become one but that books sounds interesting. Need to check it out. I am cutting down sugar more and more with the goal to be soon sugar free and to eat more veggies. Happy reading!

  20. I haven't played LOTRO before, but I have a bunch of friends who have. I think back when the game came out, I was playing Guild Wars. I was so addicted to that game.

I always enjoy all these cool art pieces. Reminds me of backgrounds from anime.

    Enjoy your week!

  21. Good morning! I am encouraged to slow down and enjoy what's around me by your post. There was a time that I was much better at enjoying what was right in front of me, but it seems like I have allowed life to get in the way more often lately.

  22. Greg, lovely to hear you've been able to watch the world go by a little, as well enjoying walking videos and the Lord of the Rings game you've been dip in and out of. I also hope you will find Finally A Vegan: My Journey to Veganuary a helpful. While I don't want to be vegan per say myself I do try to eat less meat and being lactose tolerant can't have too much dairy. To help me with this I love the Plant Based cookbook by Trish Sebben Krupka: everything I have made from it is delicious and you don't miss meat at all! Take care and happy reading in the coming week. 🙂

  23. I do love to watch the world go by, but there always seems to be something to do. I love the Tokyo walk. You always post such great videos. Hope you have a great week!

  24. I like watching it rain or thunderstorms. I watch a lot of what goes on around here but it's usually just crazy. I need somewhere quiet to relax. lol

  25. Spent a lot of time watching hundreds of robins as they stop off in Florida before heading up north. I told them they'd better stick around as it is too cold and snowy! Hope it begins to get back to normal temps before I get back. Have a great week.

  26. Lotr game? Yes please is all I say

  27. LOTR online game? How have I not heard of this?! I like the track from it, too. And as always, you've chosen some awesome art. I particularly like the Hobbiton and Star Wars pieces, and the Top Floor Landing.

I used to enjoy watching the birds at the feeder, but since the deck became unsafe (some of the boards are rotted), we haven't put a feeder up. I'm thinking that this spring, I might put one up in the front bed, visible from our office windows. But I don't know how to squirrel-proof it. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a truly squirrel-proof feeder. They always find a way around it, the clever little beasties. (Which is OK, I guess, except that they drive the birds away. And don't get me started on the raccoons! The other reason we stopped putting birdseed out was the raccoon who was chowing down on several pounds of birdseed every night.)

  28. I was not aware there's a LOTR online game. Sounds very cool!

  29. In some ways I actually think I stopped and watched and took in all in more as a kid. As an adult there always seems to be something to do, and I have consciously make myself stop and just be in the moment.

  30. Tofutti makes a good vegan cream cheese if you find that you need a cream cheese substitute. My time to slow down and see the world is when I go for a run. Time seems really slowed down when I running. This year we are putting up a Mason Bee Box so maybe some bees will move into our backyard. Have a great week!

  32. I don't sit and watch the world as much as I should, but I definitely love to watch animals (including birds). We have cameras installed around the house just so I can watch the wildlife!

  36. I'm not a sit and watch the world kind of person. I need input! Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  37. 'm not a super still person but I've found that I love being out the quiet of the woods here. I was always happiest in nature or with animals but this is something different. Like - appreciating the vastness or the wildness of it.

  38. Good luck with the vegan stuff! I was vegan in college. Sometimes I think about going back to it, but I don’t know if the family would be happy about eating vegan food. Have a good week!

The vegan book sounds good, I love the food but I’ve never been brave enough to make the jump.

  40. Ah! I spent two hours in that Tokyo Station underground mall when I was in Japan last. It's an easy place to spend time and find tons of souvenirs to buy. :)
