Sunday Post #374

So this is a big week coming up. Halloween is this weekend and we're expecting a full moon- that should be interesting. Halloween will of course look a lot different this year, but I'm told people are participating- not sure how wise that is, but I love it and hopefully we'll have a few people come down our street. We'll be leaving candy out in a distanced way. This always feels like the culmination of a spooky month- after this I get all in the holiday mood, with Thanksgiving and everything else, but Halloween is a fun time.

No sign of the stray kitties- I'm not sure where they went, but we haven't seen them in over a week. :( I hope they're well. They were in the neighbors' yard pretty much every timer we saw 'em, so maybe they took them in, or maybe they're gone elsewhere... anyway, the only other thing is- by this time next week we'll (hopefully) know the results of the election. Could this be over soon? Well, there'll undoubtedly be problems, but... by the next Post we should know something!

This walking tour is nice- early on there's a tsunami route which I thought was interesting, and the route includes elevated gardens and an amazing skywalk!

This is nice.

  2. I'm totally convinced that those cats were waiting for you to get better before they moved on, and I'm sticking to it, Gorgeous Greg!(lol) Where we live there are very few children, but there's a sign in our complex warning people that they are trespassing, so strange people don't really visit that often. Still, I did get candy from the Dollar Tree just to celebrate the season, of course.(lol) Hugs and Happy Halloween Weekend to you! RO

    1. I'll take it! Sounds like a great theory! :) And candy is good even if there are no visitors- you can always eat it lol!

  3. We're also leaving candy out in a distanced way. My mom wanted to do some elaborate thing where we wear masks and then stretch the candy out to the kids with tongs, but I figured putting a bowl outside was easier!

  7. Did you carve the pumpkins in the picture up there? If so, they are cute. People are so weird about things. I remember when Sandy hit and we had no power or heat or hot water for 8 days and towns were worried about rescheduling Halloween. You can have a fancy dress party any time you want and they sell candy at the store, ok?

  8. I hope the kitties are doing well, too, Greg. Hopefully someone nice took them in and they're inside cats now :)
Have a wonderful weekend, and a great week ahead.

  9. We're leaving candy out tonight for any trick-or-treaters who come our way, but I'm NOT answering the door. The numbers of COVID where I live keep rising and I don't need the added exposure.

    1. That's sensible. We've had it so Im handing candy out (only a few have come)- I'm not contagious, so the health department says, and having just had it I'm not too worried but I would absolutely feel the same as you if I hadn't had it yet!

I love these Japanese videos, have you watched the Abroad in Japan channel, The latest episode has an abandoned Japanese love hotel, incredibly creepy!

  13. I did not let Eleanor go trick-or-treating this year. I just don't feel like it is worth the risk - especially because cases are rising rapidly in Omaha. AGAIN.

We painted and carved pumpkins, Eleanor got to dress up in her costume and we walked to the clubhouse, where they had treat bags prepared for kids (she also got to wear her costume to dance class this week for Halloween party week). Then we snuggled and watched Hocus Pocus. So even though it was different, it was still a good day. Happy Halloween!

    1. I think that's smart. You never know and it's better to be safe. The only reason I gave out candy was because I've had it and am not contagious. Although even that gives me pause- I mean, how much do we REALLY know about this? So I was super careful.

Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time :):)

  14. Oh, I hope the kitties went to a good home! Yeah, next week we should know something with the election. Kind of nerve wracking. I just hope there isn't violence, because that's the last thing we need right now.

  15. My kids went trick or treating with their dad. There were definitely less houses lit up this year, but my husband said those that were handing out candy were doing it in a carefully distanced way. People were wearing masks and gloves, some houses had chutes built onto their front porch to "slide" the candy down to the kids (lol!), others with markers on the ground showing where kids were supposed to stand 6 feet apart before candy was handed out, etc. I was putting candy outside on a table, and my neighbors had a campfire in their driveway so kids didn't have to come up to the house. I understand why some chose to stay home, but I'm also pretty proud of my neighborhood for being so creative in showing that you can still give the kids a fun time while being safe. Hope you had a great halloween!

    1. Same here. We only had a few kids, definitely down this year, but we saw the same things, people meeting in their driveways and distancing. I'm glad kids were still able to have a Halloween!!!

  17. Thanks for the relaxing music (much appreciated) and the walks in Japan - Tokyo looks a lot like Seoul. The art pictures made me dream ! We also had children collecting sweets yesterday, which I didn't expect since we're locked down again ? But I gave them wrapped up biscuits, they were happy. Have a great week, the elections will be over soon ;)

  20. Oh, that Devin Kurtz sequence is absolutely stunning... We had a very low-key Halloween here. As we're heading for a full lockdown again at the end of the week, I wasn't happy opening the door to anyone. I hope you have a peaceful week, Greg.

  21. Hope you got some trick or treaters! We live out in the boonies so never had to worry about anyone coming to us so it was no different...lol. I didn't even really do anything, just worked on my blog and made my October wrap up video and planned my Nov. TBR not very Halloweeny...lol.

I hope by this time next week we know the election results but I don't know with all this mail in crap. I just want it over!!!

Have a great week and happy reading,

  23. LOVE your picture choices this week!
We spend halloween inside, ordered pizza and watched a scary movie. I am hoping it will be our new halloween routine. Maybe even watch them all day. Kids are older so no one goes out anymore. I figure I am ok with the holidays being different for one year.

Hopefully someone came in and took the kittens to a shelter or someplace to be adopted.

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading! :)

  28. The Royals did trunk or treat drive-through and then our neighborhood set tables up at the end of the their driveaways and set candy on them. Parents (well most) wore masks and homeowners sat on their porches and waved

  29. Hoping for the best this week. Hope the kitties were rescued.

  30. Those Devin Kurtz images are so engaging, I couldn't tear my eyes away. Our town held a Family Halloween Walk. Kids dressed up and followed a map to various houses that were decorated. I think people made more of an effort this year as door-to-door trick-or-treating was banned.

  33. I hope the kitties are alright too Greg! We didn't get any trisk or treatster this year as we are officially back on lockdown! Now I will cross my fingers for your election!

  35. I always get the holiday blues around this time of year and I don't even know why. I'm trying not to but it always happens. I never get any trick or treaters on my street and this year was no different.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh no, the kitties! I hope they are ok

    ReplyDelete
  37. Those Devi Kurtz pictures are amazing!

We didn't do anything for Halloween this year. We don't get that many trick-or-treaters at our house normally, so this year we decided not to bother giving out candy this year. Sure enough, we only even spotted a few small groups of kids and they weren't right by out house anyway.

  41. We didn't do anything for Halloween this year -- decided it wasn't worth the risk since we're in a hot spot. Love the Devin Kurtz art. Wow!

  46. Love your Under the Seas art picks for this week! How are you feeling? Have you recovered from covid yet? We did Halloween here and our town did a great job of handling everything. Every house put candy out in a bowl or on a table or did a candy chute. The kids all wore masks. It went well! It almost felt normal. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love Halloween but everything was scaled back this year. Understandable! We still decorated and put out individual bags, spaced out and got maybe 20 kids??

I hope we have some sense of normalcy next year.

  48. Halloween was definitely strange this year. We masked up and handed out individual goodie bags of candy but didn't have nearly as many kids as we normally do. 40ish vs 100+

  51. Love your pumpkins, hope you are still enjoying them. We had six kids come they were all related and had their buckets on a handle of some sort. Very clever. I do hope the kitties found a forever home, but at least the weather this week is milder if they are still out and about.
