I finally got my Lost Horizon readalong post up and it starts on Monday. We'll probably go a week or two and I'll do a discussion post. Thanks to LaLa in the Library again for promoting this as well. Let's see what else? Oh I wrote a discussion post! My thoughts on fantasy worlds and why they are amazing- it'll be up on Wednesday.

So... Krakatoa erupted. As if 2020 isn't already off to a fabulous start. Seriously, I saw this last Friday and I was like... NOW what? Although in true Twitter fashion, when it happened it seemed like a big deal? I mean, Krakatoa, right? Well, turns out it wasn't that big a deal. Which leads me into Twitter generally. I love Twitter, but it's stuff like this that gets a little blown out of proportion.

Song of the week

Here's a stormy seas/ ocean waves ambient - this is from Byron Bay in Australia. The only thing I don't like it the screen goes dark a few mins in - which I think is intended for those who want to sleep to it, but I like seeing the landscape.

  1. Twitter... gotta love all sides of twitter. :)

  2. Thanks for sharing the ambient! I’ve been struggling to get to sleep right away lately so any of these videos are such a help :)

  3. As if we needed more reasons to stay off Twitter, right? :) Sometimes it is the very definition of herd mentality and mass hysteria, a very bad mix. I love the art you picked this week though, some sunny pieces to bring brightness into our days :)

  4. My uncle in Australia was the one who messaged us asking if we heard Krakatoa erupt and my mum and aunt both said they heard a loud sounding explosion that woke them up but they weren't sure what. Other than that though, it hasn't been getting much/any air time here with Covid going on. Love the ambient music and as usual love love love the artwork!

  5. Haha, everything is a big deal on Twitter! I think our news cycle is so immediate and fast-moving, that stuff blows up (literally and figuratively!) and then we're on to the next thing.

  6. Can't believe I missed the Krakatoa eruption! Probably because I've been avoiding the news. ;D

  7. I think social media tends to blow everything out of proportion. I take everything I see on any social platform with a grain. Can't wait to read your discussion and Lost Horizon posts.

  8. I was massively concerned about Krakatoa for a hot second too until I looked up what was going on and realized whew, not as bad as we were misled to believe. Even with their destructive power, I find volcanoes so captivating. In 2010 I took my grandma to Hawaii for her dream vacation and we took a day trip to the Big Island. To see Mauna Loa and Kilauea was absolutely stunning.

  9. Amazing art, as always! I really like your song of the week as well, it's so soothing! I'm currently listening to PJ Harvey.
I totally missed the eruption of Krakatoa, though.

  10. Twitter... blowing things out of proportion since 2006. 😏 Ha!

I am all set to go on Monday. I think I will do a short post about it, too. 👍✨

I love that tavern image. I wish someone would make a real authentic looking tavern like that. The ones there are currently are always lacking something. 🍺

That beach atmospheric is everything! It sounds a bit like the fan I have going 24/7. Ha ha. I've gotten too used to the moving air which comes along with my fan white noise, but this will still be nice playing through the Bluetooth speaker in my bedroom. 🌊🌊🌊

Have a wonderful new week! 🌞

  11. I look forward to your post about fantasy worlds. Somehow I missed the news about Krakatoa, but then, I have been avoiding most news these days--and haven't been on Twitter much. I am relieved to know I didn't miss much. I hope all is well with you and your family Greg. Stay well and safe.

  12. 2020 has got off to an amazing start, lol! Didn't know about Krakatoa until you mentioned it, but I've been doing the news in small doses. Congrats on writing your first discussion post. :) Maybe someday I'll write one. The thought is a little intimidating to me.

  13. Oh I missed the news about the volcano eruption. But there has been too much happening in 2020 to even keep up. I hope we get through the year safely!

  14. I was all set to be shocked that Krakatoa erupted and I hadn't heard about it but then I googled and it wasn't a major thing. It's crazy how on twitter things get completely blown out of proportion, especially when folks except anything said on there as fact.

  15. Thank you for posting the Krakatoa eruption - it does look amazing... I'd missed it, as right now, I'm keeping away from a lot of social media. Thank you for the lovely pics, Greg and hope you have a peaceful, healthy week.

  16. I had no idea Krakatoa erupted! Meh. I've avoided the news as much as possible this week and feel better for it.

    Enjoy your readalong!

  17. I hadn't even heard that Krakatoa erupted which shows how out of touch I am. Then again, I'm only on Twitter once in a blue moon so that could be it, too. :)

  18. I didn´t know that Krakatoa errupted! Sure, I knew that something was going on with that vulcano, but that was weeks ago. Guess I´ll have to check Twitter ...

  19. I love how things can seem bigger on Twitter than they are in reality. I had no idea that Krakatoa erupted though. Good luck with the readalong! Have a great week and stay safe!

  20. I didn't know about the volcano...blame it on being concentrated on Corona news...I have to argue in favour of Twitter though. I one sticks to one's friends and builds a niche for oneself, it can be a very nice place 🙂.

I have to confess I'm not a fan of straight-up/high fantasy, but I'm looking forward to your discussion post!

Good old Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine! I wouldn't say that cover is "pulp" though - it looks far classier than all those naked women with filthy desires LOL.

  21. wow about Krakatoa. Thanks for sharing the soothing videos, I listen to stuff like that too before bed and while I'm reading. It's very relaxing.
Enjoy your reading this week and stay safe. A readalong sounds perfect right now.

  22. What? The Krakatoa has exploded??? You might get that I avoid the news right now LOL Now I can't wait to read your discussion post Greg!! Fantasy world he?

  23. I hadn't heard about Krakatoa!
All of your artwork is so peaceful. Great escapism right now!
Enjoy Lost Horizon & have a great week!

  24. That's the same video on Twitter of the volcano that I saw. I thought it was pretty spectacular.

  25. So many great images! I am also curious about your thoughts on Good Girls Lie. I have enjoyed the author.

Stay safe and well, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  26. I'll have to remember to check back for your discussion post next week, it sounds like an interesting topic. I hadn't heard about the volcano, nice gif. You have some artwork in this post as usual :). Have a great week!

  27. With all the repetition and fear-mongering, I have stopped watching and reading any news, so I had no idea Krakatoa had erupted! I hope you and yours are safe and well.

  28. Love that Amon Sul art! Thanks for sharing and have a safe weekend. :)

  29. I could really use some beach time right about now. That HD video you posted would just make me miss it more! Lol. 2020 has been off to an awful start and it's just gotten worse since. Boo. Also, I finished To Be Taught, If Fortunate this week and it was fabulous!

  30. I love that stormy sea track! So great! I think I'm going to start using some of the videos you have posted in the past to have on in the background while I work from home.

  31. I missed Krakatoa erupting. What a year, huh?

Sounds like you're doing well! Stay safe and have a great week!

  32. I saw something about Krakatoa but didn't think it was real! I'll have to look it up as I've read quite a bit about the last eruption and found it fascinating. I love your art this week and the video. So relaxing! I hope you have a wonderful week!

  33. I've been avoiding the news, so I had no idea Krakatoa had erupted. 2020 has been a great year,so far! Right? (FYI: That's my attempt at sarcasm.)

  34. It IS impressive to see that volcano erupt. Thank goodness there were no fatalities. The last time it erupted in 1883 there were thousands who died. 2020 is turning out to be quite memorable.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I missed the volcano because I was on a Twitter break last week. Sometimes that place is too much for me. I love your artwork choices. I haven’t been to a real beach in years.

  36. That's funny you mention Krakatoa. I woke up in the middle of the night that night and something made me check my phone. I saw Krakatoa trending and was just like "You have got to be kidding em. What else can go wrong in 2020?" Thankfully it was nowhere near as major as social media made it out to be.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hadn't heard about Krakatoa. I'm glad it wasn't such a big deal. Though, kinda think any eruption is cause for concern. eh, what do I know? I'm ready to live in boring times now. Have a good week!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I've been to Byron Bay, so that video was fascinating. I can see why it's kind of therapeutic and would help you sleep. The ocean images at the end of your post were just lovely! I would like to be there right now! It's getting much colder here now.

  39. Twitter is wild. I don't usually venture past my little group but I started reading some of the trending things last week. One of the things was calling out Richard Dawson for kissing all the female contestants on the lips. And everyone was screaming about cancel culture and all that tot he point where it was trending.

I traced it back and it was just a young guy who watched it for the first time and was shocked by it - because obviously you can't do that now. But he was just making a passing comment on his little twitter account and it went viral lol

But seriously, is the earth just literally falling apart at this point??

  41. Love that mountain erupting. Never heard anything about it. Shows what the news is all about these days. Everything else sinks into the deep! Keep well in these times.

  42. I love that Drifing picture. So nice!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Krakatoa looks amazing! And your pictures look so relaxing. Drifting would be so glorious right now. But the Tavern looks like a great time. Thanks for sharing :)

  44. LOL so true that Twitter / the internet can blow things out of proportion. Again, great art choices! They always look like great beginnings for a story!

  45. I'll confess that I'd never heard of Krakatoa, so I had to go look it up. That eruption sure looks cool!!
