So this week kinda flew by, or at least it felt that way. It cooled down early in the week and we had beautiful weather and mild temps. It got a little warmer again but still we're having a nice end to summer. I've been having the windows open at night and listening to the night sounds- it's been nice. In other news I got a new computer- my old one died an ignominious death a couple weeks ago and I was splitting my time between an even older one and my Chromebook. The old one had an ancient operating system so there were some sites I couldn't even function on- commenting on Disqus was an issue also.

Anyway Movies That Suck returned this week with Logan's Run! I'm still trying to get on track with books. My reading has just been down for a few weeks. It doesn't help that I've been watching Roll20 gaming streams- I've kinda gotten addicted to their playthrough of Dungeon of the Mad Mage. You can check out all the fun here

I also found a podcast I like! Long time readers may know that I've struggled with podcasts, kinda like audiobooks- I get distracted. I want to multi- task and then I end up missing stuff. But this week I tried Derelict and wow- this is an awesome podcast. I recommend this very highly.

  1. OMG, those last few covers are so funny! There's just something about that style of "wholesome" classic artwork that makes them such great meme material. And it's been cooling down here as well, which is wonderful because I love this weather. Fall is my favorite season, not too warm and not too cold :)

    1. Aren't they? I laughed. Just imagining a Little Golden book with such a title... :)

      I love fall!

  2. There's definitely nothing worse than being a blogger with a computer that refuses to cooperate, so I'm glad you were able to get a new one that you really like and that works. I totally get it about audio reads, and have been known to fall asleep, or totally get lost on what the story is about.(lol) I've listened to a few podcasts that are pretty interesting, and I've been hearing from many people that the podcast is the new thing that may make blogging obsolete. YIKES! Happy weekend, Gorgeous Greg! RO

    1. Right! Especially when my back up is glitchy. And yes! I do terrible w/ audio. It's a problem. :)

Yikes I hope not! I like a good podcast but they're not nearly as interesting to me as a good blog. I'd rather read or watch then just listen, I guess...

      Thanks ravishing Ro!!!!!

  3. Sleeping with the windows open is so good! But only when you have a screen in. Something Brazil should really look into making available because mosquitos are the most annoying things on the planet to sleep with and should be purified with fire!
    Awesome images as always :)

    1. I love it. Hearing the crickets and whatnot... it strikes me how quiet winter and other seasons are compared to the night noise of summer. But yes a screen is mandatory! Especially where you are I would think! I agree about mosquitos.

      Thanks!

  4. It's finally cooling down a little here as well. I love the wave sound video, I could listen to that all day!

  5. Congratulations on the new computer. May it serve you well. We had a few awesome, crisp days, but it was mid-80s again today. --sigh-- It was a nice run.

  6. I am CACKLING over those covers, especially the last twp 😂 And YAY so glad you got a new computer! I can't do windows open, tbh. It's nice in theory, but birds, man. They'll wake you up at ALL hours. I am definitely going to try Derelict too!

  7. New computer, fun fun. I keep calling this one I have a new one but it's 6 years old now.

  8. These covers are too much! I'm wondering how the Derelict podcast differs from an audio book? Glad you've found an audio to capture your attention, though. Yay for milder temps. We're in the mid 80s so that's way better than triple digits! :)

  9. Idk. I remember really liking Logan's Run. I think it was my introduction to Sci-fi films.

  10. Our weather has been pretty nice, too. ⛅

Glad you found a podcast you can listen to. I'm okay with audiobooks if I listen on 2X speed, but my mind still wanders with podcasts. 🎧,

    Have a wonderful week! 🌞

  11. I'm glad the ending of your summer is being so kind - it's a little different year, I think. We have such a long dreary winter and as our summers can be rather iffy, I generally find autumn with the death of leaves and the herbaceous shrubs in the garden a season of sadness. Though this year, we have so much lovely sunshine - such a bonus!

I love the Ladybird book, Greg:). Thank you for the laughs and I hope you have a lovely week.

  12. There is nothing worse than a computer playing up and doing on the fritz! I've had my share of issues with them over the years. I'm so glad to get the cooler weather starting-it's a joy after this hotter summer. My dad is a huge fan of John Creasey and has quite a few that he wrote under Gordon Ashe but I don't think he has that one so I need to add it to the list!

  13. I sleep all the time with open windows. Can´t sleep when they are closed. No matter how cold it is. Glad that you got a new computer. Guess that makes blogging a lot easier for you now. Have a great week.

  14. Oh, open windows and the sounds of night sounds lovely. Yay new computer!

  15. My reading isn't good either totally addicted to Criminal Minds and the Podcast Small Town Murder (they are hilarious)
We had the windows open this week and it was sooooo nice but of course today is going to be hot and humid. I hate this weather I want my 60's back.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading! :)

  16. UGH this week went by SO FAST. September went by fast tbh. I can't believe it's almost October! I'm pulling out our fall/Halloween decorations tomorrow. It's crazy!

  17. I will have a look at that podcast Derelict Greg! And I love the sounds of the night too. Changing computer is always ..challenging! I hope mine will hold on a looong time ;-)

  18. My reading has come in stops and spurts for the last few years...since I got a phone. I also really enjoy the podcast Small Town Murder and My Favorite Murder. Happy reading!

  19. I really want to read Wilder Girls. I heard it's really good.

Looking forward to your thoughts on these books!

  20. My reading has been weak lately too. I just don't seem to have the energy or gumption to read. Yay for a new computer!

  21. I feel like I'm the last person to read a Shari Lapena novel - I need to get on that! Summer is making one last stand this weekend, it's so warm today!

  22. I listen to podcasts during the hour or so I cook dinner, mainly book related or true crime casts, I’ll have to look up Derelict.

    Have a great reading week

  24. I wish I could leave our windows open at night! However, once the coyotes start howling, my dogs feel the need to chime in, and then everyone's awake. ;)

  25. I LOVE book covers with funny alternative titles! I'm going to have to add these to my collection. Hilarious.
It's been slightly cooler and breezy this week and I'm loving it! Perfect weather to hang out outdoors! :D

  26. Oh goodness those alternative titles crack me up.

I too haven't read as much as usual but this week started me back on track so I think I have rounded that corner!

  27. Now those are some Little Golden Books we can all get behind. LOL!

Glad you managed to get a new computer. I'm sure working with ancient technology was no fun!

  28. Hilarious titles for books that many of us can relate to! It is wonderful to have the windows open especially at night. I am ready for this rain to pass and give us some beautiful fall days.

  29. We've had really nice weather here the past few days too. I'm so ready for the fall-like temps. Congrats on the new computer! It always sucks when computers die but at the same time, it's always cool to get a new electronic device. LOL at those covers with the alternate titles.

  30. Ah, computer issues are the worst! Hope it all works out. Even adapting to a new computer can be challenging.

I hope you enjoyThe Perfect Wife...I liked it.

  31. I should open our windows. I bet it is nice out right now. We had a warm week, but this week is expected to be cooler. We should even get some rain by the weekend. I hope your new computer is working out well. I will be scooting over to see your post about Logan's Run soon. I hope you have a good week, Greg. Enjoy your reading!

  32. Ah new computers come to us all eventually! Good to hear you have found a podcast you really like, I guess that's the secret for holding your attention.

  33. *dies laughing* OMG Greg, that last "My Give a Fuck Gland was removed" killed me!!! Derelict sounds interesting -- don't often try narrative podcasts, but usually try non fic ones instead.

  34. "My give a fuck gland was removed" is too damn funny. I loved those covers, they made me laugh.

  35. I am soooo ready for full fall to be here, not this second summer. Lol. It was so gross out here on Saturday, just swampy. I hope you are staying away from those mosquitoes on your side! I have to admit I am a little freaked out!

I am so glad that you found a podcast you like. I am so addicted these days. And the reading will happen. I feel like I go through periods like that too. :)

  36. I love the cover of that Wilder Girls book!! So eye catching.

  37. My reading is awful lately. I just don't feel like it. But I don't have any deadline reading so I don't care for mow. It always comes back at some point.

I'll check out that podcast. I'm SO much better with audiobooks now but only certain ones in certain circumstances.

  38. Congrats on the new computer. We had a week filled with fog - one day so dense it was hard to see the road except for the center yellow line. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  39. Those classic covers crack me up!!! Boy if someone put something like that out now people would have a fit! LOL

Have a great week and happy reading!

  40. Sorry about your computer dying, but at least you've got a better one now. Ooh a podcast! I still haven't started Critical Role, I got distracted by some audiobooks lol.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm loving the cool down as well Greg! It's no fun when your computer starts to die, but it's always pretty exciting getting a brand new one! Great alternative titles for the classic books. My favorite is the very last one!!! LOL. I hope you have a wonderful week Greg!

  42. Those fake covers...LOL. I mean, they're disturbing, but in a (perversely) funny way. Do you fabricate them yourself or find them online? I'm sorry, I'm still rather new here.

Yay for the new computer! My husband takes care of ours, but more often than not, he installs and uninstalls programs on it just to try them out, which makes me mad. Well, at least he knows how to format the pesky thing if it goes insane!

This is my favourite time of the year too - the heat kills me, and I'm prone to losing my voice in the winter, but a mild-temp fall is perfect...or it would be, without mosquitoes. They've been more aggressive than ever lately - maybe it's because they're sensing that their time is almost over!
